Ekaṃ samayaṃ Bhagavā Kosalesu cārikaṃ caramāno mahatā bhikkhu-saṅghena saddhiṃ yena sālā nāma kosalānaṃ brāhmaṇa-gāmo tad avasari.|| ||

Assosuṃ kho sāleyyakā brāhmaṇa gahapatikā:|| ||

Samaṇo khalu bho Gotamo Sakya-putto Sakya-kulā pabba-jito Kosalesu cārikaṃ caramāno [401] mahatā bhikkhu saṅghena saddhiṃ Sālaṃ anuppatto.|| ||

Taṃ kho pana Bhagavantaṃ Gotamaṃ evaṃ kalyāṇo kitti-saddo abbhu-g-gato:|| ||

Iti pi so Bhagavā arahaṃ Sammā Sambuddho vijjā-caraṇa-sampanno Sugato loka-vidū anuttaro purisa-damma-sārathī Satthā deva-manussānaṃ Buddho Bhagavāti.|| ||

So imaṃ lokaṃ sa-devakaṃ sa-Mārakaṃ sa-brahmakaṃ sa-s-samaṇa-brāhmaṇiṃ pajaṃ sa-deva-manussaṃ sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā pavedeti.|| ||

So dhammaṃ deseti ādi kalyāṇaṃ majjhe kalyāṇaṃ pariyosāna-kalyāṇaṃ sātthaṃ savyañ janaṃ.|| ||

Kevala-paripuṇṇaṃ parisuddhaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ pakāseti.|| ||

Sādhu kho pana tathā-rūpānaṃ arahataṃ dassanaṃ hotī’ ti.|| ||

Atha kho sāleyyakā brāhmaṇa-gahapatikā yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkamiṃsu:|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā app’ekacce Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||

App’ekacce Bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodiṃsu.|| ||

Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sārāṇīyaṃ vīti-sāretvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||

App’ekacce yena Bhagavā ten’añjaliṃ panāmetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||

App’ekacce Bhagavato santike nāmagottaṃ sāvetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||

App’ekacce tuṇhī-bhūtā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinne kho sāleyyake brāhmaṇa-gahapatike Bhagavā etad avoca:|| ||

Atthi pana vo gahapatayo koci manāpo Satthā yasmiṃ vo ākāravatī saddhā paṭiladdhāti.|| ||

N’atthi kho no bhante koci manāpo Satthā, yasmiṃ no ākāravatī saddhā paṭiladdhāti.|| ||

Manāpaṃ vo gahapatayo Satthāraṃ alabhantehi ayaṃ apaṇṇako dhammo samādāya vattitabbo apaṇṇako hi gahapatayo dhammo samatto sāmādinno so vo bhavissati dīgha-rattaṃ hitāya sukhāya.|| ||

Katamo ca gahapatayo apaṇṇako dhammo:|| ||

Santi gahapatayo eke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ-diṭṭhino:|| ||

N’atthi dinnaṃ,||
n’atthi yiṭṭhaṃ,||
n’atthi hutaṃ,||
n’atthi sukaṭa-dukkaṭānaṃ kammānaṃ phalaṃ vipāko,||
n’atthi ayaṃ loko,||
n’atthi paro loko,||
n’atthi mātā,||
n’atthi pitā,||
n’atthi sattā opapātikā,||
n’atthi loke samaṇabrāmhaṇā samm’aggatā sammā-paṭipannā ye imañ ca lokaṃ parañ ca lokaṃ sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā pavedentī ti.|| ||

Tesaṃ yeva kho gahapatayo|| ||

Samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ eke [402] samaṇa-brāhmaṇā uju-vipacca-nīka-vādā,||
te evam āhaṃsu:|| ||

Atthi dinnaṃ,||
atthi yiṭṭhaṃ,||
atthi hutaṃ,||
atthi sukaṭa-dukkaṭānaṃ kammānaṃ phalaṃ vipāko,||
atthi ayaṃ loko,||
atthi paro loko,||
atthi mātā,||
atthi pitā,||
atthi sattā opapātikā,||
atthi loke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā samm’aggatā sammā-paṭipannā ye imañ ca lokaṃ parañ ca lokaṃ sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā pavedentī ti.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha gahapatayo nanu’me samaṇa-brāhmaṇā añña-maññassa uju-vipacca-nīka-vādāti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo ye te samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino||
evaṃ diṭṭhino||
n’atthi dinnaṃ,||
n’atthi yiṭṭhaṃ,||
n’atthi hutaṃ,||
n’atthi sukaṭa-dukkaṭānaṃ kammānaṃ phalaṃ vipāko,||
n’atthi ayaṃ loko,||
n’atthi paro loko,||
n’atthi mātā,||
n’atthi pitā,||
n’atthi sattā opapātikā,||

Tesame taṃ pāṭikaṅkhaṃ:|| ||

Yam idaṃ kāya-su-caritaṃ vacī-su-caritaṃ mano-su-caritaṃ,||
ime tayo kusale dhamme abhini-vajchetvā yam idaṃ kāya-du-c-caritaṃ vacī-du-c-caritaṃ mano-du-c-caritaṃ,||
ime tayo akusale dhamme samādāya vattissanti.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Na hi te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā passanti akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ ādīnavaṃ okāraṃ saṅkilesaṃ.|| ||

Kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ nekkhamme ānisaṃsaṃ vodānapakkhaṃ.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ||
n’atthi paro lokotissa diṭṭhi hoti,||
sāḷssa hoti micchā-diṭṭhi,||
santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ||
n’atthi paro lokoti saṅkappeti,||
svāssa hoti micchā-saṅkappo.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ||
n’atthi paro lokoti vācaṃ bhāsati,||
sāḷssa hoti micchā-vācā.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ||
n’atthi paro lokoti āha.|| ||

Ye te Arahanto para-loka-viduno tesamayaṃ paccanīkaṃ karoti.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ||
n’atthi paro lokoti āha.|| ||

Ye te Arahanto para-loka-viduno tesamayaṃ paccanīkaṃ karoti.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ||
n’atthi paro lokoti paraṃ saññāpeti.|| ||

Sāssa hoti asad’dhamma-saññatti tāya ca pana asad’dhamma-saññattiyā attānukkaṃseti.|| ||

Paraṃ vambheti.|| ||

Iti pubbe va kho panassa susīlyaṃ pahīnaṃ hoti,||
du-s-sīlyaṃ pacc’upatthikaṃ,||
ayañ ca micchā-diṭṭhi micchā-saṅkappo micchā-vācā ariyānaṃ paccanīkatā asad’dhamma-saññatti attukkaṃsanā paravambhanā.|| ||

Evaṃ sime aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti micchā-diṭṭhi-paccayā.

[403] Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Sace kho n’atthi paro loko evamayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā sotthimattāṇaṃ karissati.|| ||

Sace kho atthi paro loko eva’mayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinīpātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Kāmaṃ kho panamāhu:|| ||

Paro loko hotu n’esaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Atha ca panāyaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ gārayho:|| ||

Dussīlo purisa-puggalo micchā-diṭṭhi n’atthi-kavādoti.|| ||

Sace kho atth’eva paro loko,||
evaṃ imassa bhoto purisa-puggalassa ubhayattha kaliggaho:|| ||

Yañ ca diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ gārayho,||
yañ ca kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinīpātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Evam assā’yaṃ apaṇṇako dhammo dussamatto samādinno ekaṃsaṃ pharitvā tiṭṭhati.|| ||

Riñcati kusalaṃ ṭhānaṃ.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo ye te samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:|| ||

Atthi dinnaṃ,||
atthi yiṭṭhaṃ,||
atthi hutaṃ,||
atthi sukaṭa-dukkaṭānaṃ kammānaṃ phalaṃ vipāko,||
atthi ayaṃ loko,||
atthi paro loko,||
atthi mātā,||
atthi pitā,||
atthi sattā opapātikā,||
atthi loke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā samm’aggatā sammā-paṭipannā ye imañ ca lokaṃ parañ ca lokaṃ sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā pavedentī ti.|| ||

Tesame taṃ pāṭikaṅkhaṃ:|| ||

Yam idaṃ kāya-du-c-caritaṃ vacī-du-c-caritaṃ mano-du-c-caritaṃ ime tayo akusale dhamme abhini-vajchetvā yam idaṃ kāya-su-caritaṃ.|| ||

Vacī-su-caritaṃ mano-su-caritaṃ,||
ime tayo kusale dhamme samādāya vattissanti.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Passanti hi te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ ādīnavaṃ okāraṃ saṅkilesaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ nekkhamme ānisaṃsaṃ vodānapakkhaṃ.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ ‘atthi paro loko’ tissa diṭṭhi hoti.|| ||

Sāssa hoti sammā-diṭṭhi.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ ‘atthi paro loko’ti saṅkappeti,||
svāssa hoti sammā-saṅkappo.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ ‘atthi paro loko’ti vācaṃ bhāsati,||
sā’ssa hoti sammā-vācā.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ ‘atthi paro loko’ti āha.|| ||

Ye te Arahanto paraloka-viduno tesamayaṃ na paccanīkaṃ karoti.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana paraṃ lokaṃ ‘atthi paro loko’ti [404] paraṃ saññāpeti,||
sā’ssa hoti Sad’Dhammasaññatti.|| ||

Tāya ca pana Sad’Dhammasaññattiyā n’evattānukkaṃseti.|| ||

Na paraṃ vambheti.|| ||

Iti pubbe va kho panassa du-s-sīlyaṃ pahīnaṃ hoti.|| ||

Susīlyaṃ pacc’upatthikaṃ,||
ayañ ca sammā-diṭṭhi sammā-saṅkappo sammā-vācā ariyānaṃ apaccanīkatā Sad’Dhammasaññatti.|| ||

Anattukkaṃsanā aparavambhanā.|| ||

Evaṃ sime aneke kusalā dhammā sambhavanti sammā-diṭṭhi-paccayā.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Sace kho atthi paro loko evam ayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Kāmaṃ kho panamāhu paro loko,||
hotu n’esaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Atha ca panāyaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ pāsaṃso ‘sīlavā purisa-puggalo sammā-diṭṭhī atthikavādo’ ti.|| ||

Sace kho atth’eva paro loko,||
evaṃ imassa bhoto purisa-puggalassa ubhayattha kaṭaggaho:|| ||

Gacchato musā bhaṇato,||
karoto na karīyati pāpaṃ,||
khurapariyantena ce pi cakkena yo imissā paṭhaviyā1 pāṇe ekamaṃsakhalaṃ ekamaṃsapuñjaṃ kareyya.|| ||

N’atthi tato nidānaṃ pāpaṃ,||
n’atthi pāpassa āgamo.|| ||

Dakkhiṇañ ce pi Gaṅgāya tīraṃ gaccheyya hananto ghātento chindanto chedāpento pacanto pācento.|| ||

N’atthi tato nidānaṃ pāpaṃ,||
n’atthi pāpassa āgamo,||
uttarañ ce pi Gaṅgāya tīraṃ gaccheyya dadanto dāpento yajanto yājento2.|| ||

N’atthi tato nidānaṃ puññaṃ,||
n’atthi puññassa āgamo.|| ||

Dānena damena saññamena saccavajjena n’atthi puññaṃ,||
n’atthi puññassa āgamoti.|| ||

Tesaṃ yeva kho gahapatayo samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ eke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā [405] uju-vipacca-nīka-vādā.|| ||

Te evam āhaṃsu:|| ||

Karoto kārayato chindato chedāpayato pacato pācayato socayato socāpayato kilamato kilamāpayato phandato phandāpayato pāṇamatipātayato adinnaṃ ādiyato sandhiṃ chindato nillopaṃ harato ekāgārikaṃ karoto paripanthe tiṭṭhato paradāraṃ gacchato musā bhaṇato.|| ||

Karoto karīyati pāpaṃ,||
khurapariyantena ce pi cakkena yo imissā paṭhaviyā pāṇe ekamaṃsakhalaṃ ekamaṃsapuñjaṃ kareyya,||
atthi tato nidānaṃ pāpaṃ,||
atthi pāpassa āgamo.|| ||

Dakkhiṇañ ce pi Gaṅgāya tīraṃ gaccheyya hananto ghātento chindanto chedāpento pacanto pācento.|| ||

Atthi tato nidānaṃ pāpaṃ atthi pāpassa āgamo.|| ||

Uttarañ ce pi Gaṅgāya tīraṃ gaccheyya dadanto dāpento yajanto yājento dānena damena saṃyamena saccavajjena.3 Atthi puññaṃ,||
atthi puññassa āgamoti.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññatha gahapatayo?|| ||

Nanume samaṇa-brāhmaṇā añña-maññassa uju-vipacca-nīka-vādāti.|| ||

n’atthi puññassa āgamoti.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana kiriyaṃ ‘n’atthi kiriyā’tissa diṭṭhi hoti.|| ||

Sāssa hoti micchā-diṭṭhi.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana kiriyaṃ n’atthi kiriyā’ti saṅkappeti,||
svāssa hoti micchā saṅkappo.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana kiriyaṃ ‘n’atthi kiriyā’ti vācaṃ bhāsati,||
sā’ssa hoti micchā-vācā.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana kiriyaṃ ‘n’atthi kiriyā’ti āha.|| ||

Ye te Arahanto kiriya-vādā tesamayaṃ paccanīkaṃ karoti.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho pana kiriyaṃ n’atthi kiriyāti paraṃ saññāpeti.|| ||

Sāssa hoti asad’dhamma-saññatti.|| ||

Tāya ca pana asad’dhamma-saññattiyā attānukkaṃseti.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Sace kho n’atthi kiriyā.|| ||

Evamayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā sotthimattāṇaṃ karissati.|| ||

Sace so atthi kiriyā.|| ||

Evamayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa hedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinīpātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Kāmaṃ kho panamāhu kiriyā hotu n’esaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ,||
atha ca panāyaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ gārayho,||
du-s-sīlo purisa-puggalo micchā-diṭṭhi akiriyavādoti.|| ||

Sace kho atth’eva kiriyā.|| ||

Evaṃ imassa bhoto purisa-puggalassa ubhayattha kaliggaho,||
yañ ca diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ gārayho,||
yañ ca kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinīpātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Atthi tato nidānaṃ pāpaṃ atthi pāpassa āgamo.|| ||

Dakkhiṇañ ce pi Gaṅgāya tīraṃ gaccheyya hananto ghātento chindanto chedāpento pacanto pācento,||
atthi tato nidānaṃ pāpaṃ,||
atthi pāpassa āgamo.|| ||

Uttarañ ce pi Gaṅgāya tīraṃ gaccheyya dadanto dāpento yajanto yājento,||

Susīlyaṃ pacc’upatthikaṃ.|| ||

Ayañ ca sammā-diṭṭhi sammā-saṅkappo sammā-vācā ariyānaṃ apaccanīkatā Sad’Dhammasaññatti anattukkaṃsanā aparavambhanā.|| ||

Evaṃsime aneke kusalā dhammā sambhavanti sammā-diṭṭhi-paccayā.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati.|| ||

Sace kho atthi kiriyā evamayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Kāmaṃ kho panamāhu kiriyā,||
hotu n’esaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Atha ca panāyaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ pāsaṃso sīlavā purisa-puggalo sammā-diṭṭhi kiriyavādoti.|| ||

Sace kho atth’eva kiriyā,||
evaṃ imassa bhoto purisa-puggalassa ubhayattha kaṭaggaho,||
yañ ca diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ pāsaṃso,||
yañ ca kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Evam assāyaṃ apaṇṇako dhammo susamatto samādinno ubhayaṃsaṃ pharitvā tiṭṭhati.|| ||

Riñcati akusalaṃ ṭhānaṃ.|| ||

Santi gahapatayo eke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:|| ||

N’atthi hetu n’atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ saṅkilesāya,||

n’atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ visuddhiyā ahetu a-p-paccayā sattā visujjhanti.|| ||

N’atthi balaṃ n’atthi viriyaṃ n’atthi purisa-thāmo n’atthi purisaparakkamo.|| ||

Sabbe sattā sabbe pāṇā sabbe bhūtā sabbe jīvā avasā abalā aviriyā niyati saṅgatibhāvapariṇatā1 chassevābhijātisu sukha-dukkhaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī ti.|| ||

Tesaṃ yeva kho gahapatayo samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ eke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā uju-vipacca-nīka-vādā,||
te evam āhaṃsu:|| ||

Atthi hetu atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ saṅkilesāya,||
sahetu sa-p-paccayā sattā saṅkilissanti.|| ||

Atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ visuddhiyā.|| ||

Sahetu sa-p-paccayā sattā visujjhanti.|| ||

Atthi balaṃ atthi viriyaṃ atthi purisa-thāmo atthi purisaparakkamo,||
na sabbe2 sattā sabbe pāṇā sabbe bhūtā sabbe jīvā avasā abalā aviriyā3 niyatisaṅgatibhāvapariṇatā chassevābhijātisu sukha-dukkhaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī ti.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha gahapatayo:|| ||

[408] Nanume samaṇa-brāhmaṇā añña-maññassa uju-vipacca-nīka-vādāti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo ye te samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:|| ||

N’atthi hetu n’atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ saṅkilesāya,||
ahetu a-p-paccayā sattā saṅkilissanti n’atthi hetu,||
n’atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ visuddhiyā ahetu a-p-paccayā sattā visujjhanti.|| ||

Ime tayo akusale dhamme samādāya vattissanti.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu? na hi te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā passanti akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ ādīnavaṃ okāraṃ saṅkilesaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ nekkhamme ānisaṃsaṃ vodānapakkhaṃ.|| ||

du-s-sīlyaṃ pacc’upatthikaṃ.|| ||

Ayañ ca micchā-diṭṭhi micchā-saṅkappo micchā-vācā ariyānaṃ paccanīkatā asad’dhamma-saññatti attukkaṃsanā paravambhanā:|| ||

Evaṃsime aneke pāpakā akusalā dhammā sambhavanti micchā-diṭṭhi-paccayā.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Sace kho n’atthi hetu,||
evamayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā sotthimattāṇaṃ karissati,||
sace kho atthi hetu,||
evamayaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinīpātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Kāmaṃ kho pana māhu hetu.|| ||

Hotu n’esaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Atha ca panāyaṃ bhavaṃ purisa-puggalo diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ gārayho du-s-sīlo purisa-puggalo micchā-diṭṭhi ahetuvādo’ti1 sace kho atth’eva hetu.|| ||

Evaṃ imassa bhoto purisa-puggalassa ubhayattha [409] kaliggaho:|| ||

Yañ ca diṭṭhe’va dhamme viññūnaṃ gārayho,||
yañ ca kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ.|| ||

Vinīpātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapajjissati.|| ||

Evam assā’yaṃ apaṇṇako dhammo dussamatto samādinno ekaṃsaṃ pharitvā tiṭṭhati.|| ||

Riñcati kusalaṃ ṭhānaṃ2.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo ye te samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:atthi hetu atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ saṅkilesāya,||
sahetu sa-p-paccayā sattā saṅkilissanti.|| ||

Atthi paccayo sattāṇaṃ visuddhiyā.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha gahapatayo nanume samaṇa-brāhmaṇā añña-maññassa uju-vipacca-nīka-vādāti – evambhante.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Ye kho te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ-diṭṭhino ‘n’atthi sabbaso āruppā’ ti.|| ||

Idamme adiṭṭhaṃ,||
yepi te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ-diṭṭhino ‘atthi sabbaso āruppā’ ti.|| ||

Idamme aviditaṃ.|| ||

Ahañ c’eva kho pana ajānanto apassanto ekaṃ-sena ādāya vohareyyaṃ:|| ||

‘Idam eva saccaṃ mogham aññan ti.|| ||

Name taṃ assa paṭirūpaṃ.|| ||

Ye kho te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ-diṭṭhino ‘n’atthi sabbaso āruppā’ ti.|| ||

Sace tesaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Ṭhāname taṃ vijjati.|| ||

Ye te devā rūpino mano-mayā apaṇṇakamme tatruppatti bhavissati.|| ||

Ye pana te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino ‘atthi sabbaso āruppā’ ti.|| ||

Sace tesaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Ṭhāname taṃ vijjati ye te devā arūpino saññāmayā,||
apaṇṇakamme tatruppatti bhavissati.|| ||

Dissante3 kho pana rūpādhikaraṇaṃ daṇḍ’ādānaSatth’ādāna -kalaha – viggaha – vivādatuvantuvampesuññamusā-vādā.|| ||

N’atthi kho pan’etaṃ sabbaso arūpeti.|| ||

So iti paṭisaṅkhāya rūpānaṃ yeva nibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya paṭipanno hoti.|| ||

Santi gahapatayo eke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:|| ||

N’atthi sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Tesaṃ yeva kho gahapatayo samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ eke samaṇa-brāhmaṇā uju-vipacca-nīka-vādā te evam āhaṃsu:|| ||

Atthi [411] sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññatha gahapatayo nanume samaṇa-brāhmaṇā añña-maññassa uju-vipacca-nīka-vādāti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

Tatra gahapatayo viññū puriso iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Ye kho te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino:|| ||

Evaṃ-diṭṭhino:|| ||

N’atthi sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ me adiṭṭhaṃ,||
yepi te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:|| ||

‘Atthi sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Idamme aviditaṃ.|| ||

Ahaṃñc’eva kho pana ajānanto apassanto ekaṃ-sena ādāya vohareyyaṃ:|| ||

‘Idam eva saccaṃ mogham aññan’ ti.|| ||

Ye pana te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ-diṭṭhino ‘atthi sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Sace tesaṃ bhavataṃ samaṇa-brāhmaṇānaṃ saccaṃ vacanaṃ.|| ||

Ṭhāname taṃ vijjati yaṃ diṭṭhe’va dhamme parinibbāyissāmi.|| ||

Ye kho te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ diṭṭhino:|| ||

‘N’atthi sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Tesamayaṃ diṭṭhi sārāgāya1 santike,||
saṃyogāya santike,||
abhinandanāya santike,||
ajjhosānāya santike,||
upādānāya santike.|| ||

Ye pana te bhonto samaṇa-brāhmaṇā evaṃ-vādino evaṃ-diṭṭhino:|| ||

‘Atthi sabbaso bhava-nirodho’ ti.|| ||

Tesamayaṃ diṭṭhi asārāgāya santike asaṃyogāya santike anabhinandanāya santike anajjhosānāya santike an-upādānāya santiketi.|| ||

So itipaṭisaṅkhāya bhavānaṃ yeva nibbidāya virāgāya nirodhāya paṭipanno hoti.|| ||

Cattāro’me gahapatayo puggalā santo saṃvijj’amānā lokasmiṃ,||
katame cattāro:|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo attantapo hoti atta-paritāpanānuyogaṃ anuyutto.|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo parantapo hoti para-paritāpanānuyogaṃ anuyutto.|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo attantapo ca hoti atta-paritāpanānuyogaṃ anuyutto.|| ||

Parantapo ca para-paritāpanānuyogaṃ anuyutto.|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo n’evattantapo hoti nāttaparitāpanānuyogaṃ anuyutto.|| ||

Na parantapo na para-paritāpanānuyogaṃ anuyutto.|| ||

[412] So anattantapo aparantapo diṭṭhe’va dhamme nicchāto nibbuto sītibhūto sukha-paṭisaṃvedī brahma-bhūtena attanā viharati.|| ||

Katamo ca gahapatayo puggalo attantapo atta-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto:|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo acelako hoti mutt’ācāro,||
hatth-ā-palekhano,||
na ehi-bhadantiko,||
na tiṭṭha-bhadantiko,||
nābhihaṭaṃ,||
na uddissa kaṭaṃ,||
na nimantanaṃ sādiyati.|| ||

So na kumbhi-mukhā patigaṇhāti.|| ||

Na khaḷopimukhā patigaṇhāti.|| ||

Na eḷaka-mantaraṃ na daṇḍa-mantaraṃ na musalamantaraṃ,||
na dvinnaṃ bhuñjamānānaṃ,||
na gabbhiniyā,||
na pāyamānāya,||
na purisantaragatāya,||
na saṅkittīsu,||
na yattha sā upaṭṭhito hoti,||
na yattha makkhikā saṇḍasaṇḍacārīnī,||
na macchaṃ,||
na maṃsaṃ,||
na suraṃ,||
na merayaṃ,||
na thusodakaṃ pibati.|| ||

So ekāgāriko vā hoti ekālopiko,||
dvāgāriko vā hoti dvālopiko.|| ||

Sattāgāriko vā hoti sattālopiko.|| ||

Ekissā pi dattiyā yāpeti,||
dvīhi pi dattīhi yāpeti,||
sattahi pi dattīhi yāpeti,||
ekāhikam pi āhāraṃ āhāreti,||
dvīhikam pi āhāraṃ āhāreti sattāhikam pi āhāraṃ āhāreti.|| ||

Iti eva-rūpaṃ addhamāsikampi pariyāya-bhatta-bhojan’ānuyoga-manu-yutto viharati so sākabhakkho vā hoti,||
sāmākabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Nīvārabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Daddulabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Haṭabhakkho vā hoti,||
kaṇabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Ācāmabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Piññākabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Tiṇabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Gomayabhakkho vā hoti.|| ||

Vana-mūla-phalāhāro yāpeti pavattapalabhojī.|| ||

So sāṇāni pi dhāreti.|| ||

Masāṇāni pi dhāreti.|| ||

Chavadussāni pi dhāreti.|| ||

Paṃsukūlāni pi dhāreti.|| ||

Tirīṭāni pi dhāreti.|| ||

Ajināni pi dhāreti.|| ||

Ajinakkhipam pi dhāreti.|| ||

Kusacīram pi dhāreti.|| ||

Vākacīram pi dhāreti.|| ||

E’akacīram pi dhāreti.|| ||

Kesakambalam pi dhāreti.|| ||

Vā’akambalam pi dhāreti.|| ||

Ulūkapakkham pi dhāreti.|| ||

Kesamassulocako pi hoti kesa-massulocanānuyogamanuyutto.|| ||

Ubbaṭṭako pi hoti āsanapaṭikkhitto.|| ||

Ukkuṭiko pi hoti ukkuṭikappadhānamanuyutto.|| ||

Kaṇṭakāpassayiko pi hoti kanṭakāpassaye seyyaṃ kappeti.|| ||

Sāyatatiyakam pi udakorohaṇānuyogamanuyutto viharati.|| ||

Iti eva-rūpaṃ aneka-vihitaṃ kāyassa ātāpana-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto viharati.|| ||

Ayaṃ vuccati gahapatayo puggalo attantapo atta-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto.|| ||

Katamo ca gahapatayo puggalo parantapo para-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto:|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo orabbhiko hoti,||
sūkariko sākuntiko māgaviko luddo macchaghātako coro coraghātako bandhanāgāriko,||
ye vā pan’aññe pi keci Kurūrakammantā,||
ayaṃ vuccati gahapatayo puggalo parantapo para-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto.|| ||

Katamo ca gahapatayo puggalo attantapo ca atta-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto parantapo ca para-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto:|| ||

Idha gahapatayo ekacco puggalo rājā vā hoti khattiyo muddhā-vasitto,||
brāhmaṇo vā mahāsāḷo ,so puratthimena nagarassa navaṃ santhāgāraṃ kārāpetvā kesa-massuṃ ohāretvā kharājinaṃ nivāsetvā sappitelena kāyaṃ abbhañjitvā migavisāṇena piṭṭhiṃ kaṇḍūvamāno santhāgāraṃ pavisati saddhiṃ mahesiyā brāhmaṇena ca purohitena.|| ||

So tattha anantara-hitāya bhūmiyā haritupattāya seyyaṃ kappeti,||
ekissā gāviyā sarūpavacchāya yaṃ ekasmiṃ thane khīraṃ hoti,||
tena rājā yāpeti.|| ||

Yaṃ dutiyasmiṃ thane khīraṃ hoti,||
tena mahesī yāpeti.|| ||

Yaṃ tatiyasmiṃ thane khīraṃ hoti tena brāhmaṇo purohito yāpeti.|| ||

Yaṃ catutthasmiṃ thane khīraṃ hoti,||
tena aggiṃ juhanti.|| ||

Avasesena vacchako yāpeti,||
so evam āha:|| ||

Ettakā usabhā haññantu yaññ’atthāya,||
ettakā vacchatarā haññantu yaññ’atthāya,||
ettakā vacchatariyo haññantu yaññ’atthāya,||
ettakā ajā haññantu yaññ’atthāya,||
ettakā urabbhā haññantu yaññ’atthāya,||
ettakā rukkhā chijjantu yūpatthāya,||
ettakā dabbā lūyantu barihisatthāyāti.|| ||

Yepassa te honti dāsāti vā pessāti vā kamma-karāti vā,||
tepi daṇḍatajjitā bhayatajjitā assumukhā rudamānā parikammāni karonti.|| ||

Ayaṃ vuccati gahapatayo puggalo attantapo ca atta-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto parantapo ca para-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto.|| ||

Katamo ca gahapatayo puggalo n’evattantapo nāttaparitāpanānuyogamanuyutto na parantapo na para-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto,||
so anattantapo aparantapo diṭṭhe’va dhamme nicchāto nibbuto sitabhūto sukha-paṭisaṃvedī brahma-bhūtena attanā viharati:|| ||

Idha gahapatayā Tathāgato loke uppajjati arahaṃ Sammā Sambuddho vijjā-caraṇa-sampanno Sugato loka-vidū anuttaro purisa-damma-sārathī Satthā deva-manussānaṃ Buddho Bhagavā,||
so imaṃ lokaṃ sa-devakaṃ sa-Mārakaṃ sa-brahmakaṃ sa-s-samaṇa-brāhmaṇiṃ pajaṃ sa-deva-manussaṃ sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā pavedeti,||
so dhammaṃ deseti:|| ||

Ādi kalyāṇaṃ majjhe kalyāṇaṃ pariyosāna-kalyāṇaṃ sātthaṃ savyañ janaṃ kevala-paripuṇṇaṃ parisuddhaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ pakāseti.|| ||

Taṃ dhammaṃ suṇāti gahapati vā gahapati-putto vā aññatarasmiṃ vā kule paccājāto.|| ||

So taṃ dhammaṃ sutvā Tathāgate saddhaṃ paṭilabhati.|| ||

So tena saddhā-paṭilābhena samannāgato itipaṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Sambādho gharāvāso rajo-patho,||
abbhokāso pabbajjā,||
na-y-idaṃ sukaraṃ agāraṃ ajjhāvasatā ekanta-paripuṇṇaṃ ekanta-parisuddhaṃ saṅkhalikhitaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ carituṃ,||
yan nūn-ā-haṃ kesa-massuṃ ohāretvā kāsāyāni vatthāni acchādetvā agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajeyyanti.|| ||

So aparena samayena appaṃ vā bhoga-k-khandhaṃ pahāya mahantaṃ vā bhoga-k-khandhaṃ pahāya appaṃ vā ñāti-parivaṭṭaṃ pahāya mahantaṃ vā ñāti-parivaṭṭaṃ pahāya kesa-massuṃ ohāretvā kāsāyāni vatthāni acchādetvā agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajati.|| ||

So evaṃ pabba-jito samāno bhikkhūnaṃ sikkhāsājīvasamāpanno pāṇ-ā-tipātaṃ pahāya pāṇ-ā-tipātā paṭivirato hoti,||
nihita-daṇḍo nihita-sattho lajjī dayā-panno sabba-pāṇa-bhūta-hit-ā-nukampī viharati.|| ||

Adinn’ādānaṃ pahāya adinn’ādānā paṭivirato hoti,||
dinn’ādāyī dinna-pāṭikaṅkhī athenena suci-bhūtena attanā viharati.|| ||

Abrahma-cariyaṃ pahāya brahma-cārī hoti,||
ārā-cārī virato methunā gāma-dhammā.|| ||

Musā-vādaṃ pahāya musā-vādā paṭivirato hoti,||
sacca-vādī sacca-sandho theto paccayiko avisaṃvādako lokassa.|| ||

Pisunaṃ vācaṃ pahāya pisunāya vācāya paṭivirato hoti,||
ito sutvā na amutra akkhātā imesaṃ bhedāya,||
amutra vā sutvā na imesaṃ akkhātā amūsaṃ bhedāya,||
iti bhinnānaṃ vā sandhātā sahitānaṃ vā anuppadātā,||
samagg’ārāmo samagga-rato samagga-nandī samagga-karaṇiṃ vācaṃ bhāsitā hoti.|| ||

Pharusaṃ vācaṃ pahāya pharusāya vācāya paṭivirato hoti,||
yā sā vācā neḷā kaṇṇa-sukhā pemanīyā hadayaṃ-gamā porī bahu-jana-kantā bahu-jana-manāpā,||
tathā-rūpaṃ vācaṃ bhāsitā hoti.|| ||

Sampha-p-palāpaṃ pahāya sampha-p-palāpā paṭivirato hoti,||
kāla-vādī bhūta-vādī attha-vādī dhamma-vādī vinaya-vādī nidhāna-vatiṃ vācaṃ bhāsitā kālena sāpadesaṃ pariyanta-vatiṃ attha-saṃhitaṃ.|| ||

So bījagāma-bhūta-gāma-samārambhā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Eka-bhattiko hoti ratt’ūparato virato vikāla-bhojanā.|| ||

Nacca-gīta-vādita-visūka-dassanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Mālā-gandha-vilepana-dhāraṇa-maṇḍana-vibhūsana-ṭṭhānā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Uccā-sayana-mahā-sayanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Jātarūpa-rajatapaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti āmakadhañña-paṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Āmakamaṃsapaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Itthikumārikapaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Dāsidāsapaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Ajeḷakapaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Kukkuṭasūkarapaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Hatthigavāssavaḷavāpaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Khetta-vatthupaṭiggahanā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Dūteyyapahīnagaman-ā-nuyogā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Kaya-vikkayā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Tulā-kūṭakaṃsakuṭamānakūṭā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Ukkoṭana-vañcana-nikati-sāci-yogā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

Chedana-vadha-bandhana-viparāmosa-ālopa-sahasākārā paṭivirato hoti.|| ||

So santuṭṭho hoti kāya-parihārikena cīvarena,||
kucchi-parihārikena piṇḍa-pātena,||
so yena yen’eva pakkamati,||
samādāyeva pakkamati.|| ||

Seyyathā pi nāma pakkhīsakuṇo yena yen’eva ḍeti,||
sapattabhārova ḍeti.|| ||

Evam evaṃ bhikkhu santuṭṭho hoti kāya-parihārikena cīvarena,||
kucchi-parihārikena piṇḍa-pātena.|| ||

Yena yen’eva pakkamati samādāyeva pakkamati.|| ||

So iminā ariyena sīla-k-khandhena samannāgato ajjhattaṃ anavajja-sukhaṃ paṭisaṃvedeti.|| ||

So cakkhunā rūpaṃ disvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇamenaṃ cakkhu’ndriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati cakkhu’ndriyaṃ,||
cakkhu’ndriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Sotena saddaṃ sutvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇamenaṃ sot’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati sot’indriyaṃ,||
sot’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Ghānena gandhaṃ ghāyitvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇamenaṃ ghān’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati ghān’indriyaṃ,||
ghān’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Jivhāya rasaṃ sāyitvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇamenaṃ jivh’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati jivh’indriyaṃ,||
jivh’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Kāyena phoṭṭhabbaṃ phusitvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇamenaṃ kāy’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati kāy’indriyaṃ,||
kāy’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Manasā dhammaṃ viññāya na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇamenaṃ man’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvaraṃ paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati man’indriyaṃ,||
man’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.|| ||

So iminā ariyena indriya-saṃvarena samannāgato ajjhattaṃ abyāsekasukhaṃ paṭisaṃvedeti.|| ||

So abhikkante paṭikkante sampajāna-kārī hoti,||
ālokite vilokite sampajāna-kārī hoti,||
sammiñjite pasārite sampajāna-kārī hoti,||
saṅghāṭipatta-cīvaradhāraṇe sampajāna-kārī hoti,||
asite pīte khāyite sāyite sampajāna-kārī hoti,||
uccāra-passāvakamme sampajāna-kārī hoti,||
gate ṭhite nisinne sutte jāgarite bhāsite tuṇhī-bhāve sampajāna-kārī hoti.|| ||

So iminā ca ariyena sīla-k-khandhena samannāgato iminā ca ariyena indriya-saṃvarena samannāgato iminā ca ariyena sati-sampajaññena samannāgato vivittaṃ sen’āsanaṃ bhajati.|| ||

Araññaṃ rukkha-mūlaṃ pabbataṃ kandaraṃ giri-guhaṃ susānaṃ vana-patthaṃ abbhokāsaṃ palālapuñjaṃ.|| ||

So pacchā-bhattaṃ piṇḍa-pāta-paṭikkanto nisīdati pallaṅkaṃ ābhujitvā ujuṃ kāyaṃ panidhāya,||
parimukhaṃ satiṃ upaṭṭha-petvā.|| ||

So abhijjhaṃ loke pahāya vigat-ā-bhijjhena cetasā viharati,||
abhijjhāya cittaṃ parisodheti.|| ||

Vyāpāda-padosaṃ pahāya avyāpanna-citto viharati sabba-pāṇa-bhūta-hit-ā-nukampī.|| ||

Vyāpāda-padosā cittaṃ parisodheti,||
thīna-middhaṃ pahāya vigata-thīna-middho viharati āloka-saññī sato sampajāno.|| ||

Thīna-middhā cittaṃ parisodheti,||
uddhacca-kukkuccaṃ pahāya anuddhato viharati ajjhattaṃ vūpasanta-citto.|| ||

Uddhacca-kukkuccā cittaṃ parisodheti.|| ||

Vici-kicchaṃ pahāya tiṇṇa-vici-kiccho viharati akathaṃ-kathī kusalesu dhammesu.|| ||

Vicikicchāya cittaṃ parisodheti.|| ||

So ime pañca nīvaraṇe pahāya cetaso upakkilese paññāya dubbalī-karaṇe,||
vivicc’eva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi sa-vitakkaṃ sa-vicāraṃ viveka-jaṃ pīti-sukhaṃ paṭhamaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Vitakka-vicārānaṃ vūpasamā ajjhattaṃ sampasādanaṃ cetaso ekodi-bhāvaṃ avitakkaṃ avicāraṃ samādhi-jaṃ pīti-sukhaṃ dutiyaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Pītiyā ca virāgā upekkhako ca viharati.|| ||

Sato ca sampajāno sukhañca kāyena paṭisaṃvedeti.|| ||

Yantaṃ ariyā ācikkhanti:|| ||

‘Upekkhako satimā sukha-vihārī’ ti taṃ tatiyaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Sukhassa ca pahānā dukkhassa ca pahānā,||
pubbe va somanassa-domanassānaṃ atthaṅ-gamā adukkha-ṃ-asukhaṃ upekkhā-sati-pārisuddhiṃ catutthaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

So evaṃ samāhite citte parisuddhe pariyodāte an-aṅgaṇe vigat’ūpakkilese mudubhūte kammaniye ṭhite ānejjappatte pubbe-nivāsānu-s-sati-ñāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmeti.|| ||

So aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati,||
seyyath’īdaṃ:|| ||

Ekam pi jātiṃ dve pi jātiyo,||
Tisso pi jātiyo catasso pi jātiyo pañca pi jātiyo dasa pi jātiyo vīsatim pi jātiyo tiṃsam pi jātiyo cattārīsam pi jātiyo paññāsam pi jātiyo jāti-satam pi jāti-sahassam pi jāti-sata-sahassam pi anekepi saṃvaṭṭa-kappe anekepi vivaṭṭa-kappe anekepi saṃvaṭṭa-vivaṭṭa-kappe amutrāsiṃ evaṃ-nāmo evaṃ-gotto evaṃ-vaṇṇo evam-āhāro evaṃ-sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto amutra udapādiṃ tatrāpāsiṃ evaṃ-nāmo evaṃ-gotto evaṃ-vaṇṇo evam-āhāro evaṃ-sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto idh’ūpapanno’ ti.|| ||

Iti sākāraṃ sa-uddesaṃ aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati.|| ||

So evaṃ samāhite citte parisuddhe pariyodāte an-aṅgaṇe vigat’ūpakkilese mudubhūte kammaniye ṭhite ānejjappatte sattāṇaṃ cut’ūpapātañāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmeti.|| ||

So dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passati cavamāne upapajjamāne,||
hine paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate yathā-kamm’ūpage satte pajānāti.|| ||

Ime vata bhonte sattā kāya-du-c-caritena samannāgatā vacī-du-c-caritena samannāgatā mano-du-c-caritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ upavādakā micchā-diṭṭhikā micchā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā,||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinipātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapannā,||
ime vā pana bhonto sattā kāya-sucaritena samannāgatā vacī-sucaritena samannāgatā mano-sucaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ anupavādakā sammā-diṭṭhikā sammā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā,||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upannā’ ti.|| ||

Iti dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passati cavamāne upapajjamāne hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate yathā-kamm’ūpage satte pajānāti,|| ||

So evaṃ samāhite citte parisuddhe [413] pariyodāte an-aṅgaṇe vigat’ūpakkilese mudubhūte kammaniye ṭhite ānejjappatte āsavānaṃ khaya-ñāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmeti.|| ||

So idaṃ dukkhan ti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ dukkha-samudayo ti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ dukkha-nirodho ti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ dukkha-nirodha-gāminī-paṭipadā ti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti,||
ime āsavāti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ āsava-samudayoti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ āsava-nirodhoti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ āsava-nirodha-gāminī-paṭipadā ti yathā-bhūtaṃ pajānāti.|| ||

Tassa evaṃ jānato evaṃ passato kām’āsavā pi pi cittaṃ vimuccati.|| ||

Bhavāsavāpi cittaṃ vimuccati.|| ||

Avijjāsavā pi cittaṃ vimuccati.|| ||

Vimuttasmiṃ vimuttamiti ñāṇaṃ hoti.|| ||

Khīṇā jāti,||
vusitaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ,||
kataṃ karaṇīyaṃ,||
nāparaṃ itthattāyā ti pajānāti.|| ||

Ayaṃ vuccati gahapatayo puggalo n’evattantapo nāttaparitāpanānuyogamanuyutto,||
na parantapo na para-paritāpanānuyogamanuyutto,||
so anattantapo aparantapo diṭṭhe’va dhamme nicchāto nibbuto sītībhuto sukha-paṭisaṃvedi brahma-bhūtena attanā viharatī’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ vutte sāleyyakā brāhmaṇa-gahapatikā Bhagavantaṃ etad avocuṃ:|| ||

Abhikkantaṃ bho Gotama,||
abhikkantaṃ bho Gotama.|| ||

Seyyathā pi bho Gotama nikkujjitaṃ vā ukkujjeyya,||
paṭi-c-channaṃ vā vivareyya,||
mūḷhassa vā Maggaṃ ācikkheyya,||
andha-kāre vā tela-pajjotaṃ dhāreyya.|| ||

Cakkhumanto rūpāni dakkhintī ti.|| ||

Evam evaṃ bhotā Gotamena aneka-pariyāyena dhammo pakāsito.|| ||

Ete mayaṃ bhavantaṃ Gotamaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāma Dhammañ ca bhikkhu-saṅghañ ca.|| ||

Upāsake no bhavaṃ Gotamo dhāretu ajja-t-agge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gateti.|| ||
