Pingiya<\/h4>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Called Pingiya m\u0101nava, nephew and pupil of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palikanon.com\/english\/pali_names\/b\/bavari.htm\">B\u0101var\u012b<\/a>. At the time that he visited the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palikanon.com\/english\/pali_names\/b\/buddha.htm\">Buddha<\/a>&nbsp;with the other disciples he was 120 years old and very feeble. At the end of his discussion with the Buddha, as recorded in the Pingiya Sutta (SN. vs. 1120 23), because of his feebleness, he failed to reach any attainment. Thereupon he praised the Buddha and begged of him to go on. The Buddha preached to him further, and he became an an\u0101g\u0101m\u012b, failing, however, to attain arahantship because his mind wandered to his maternal uncle, B\u0101var\u012b. His one thousand pupils, however, became arahants. Later, with the Buddha&#8217;s leave, he visited B\u0101var\u012b and told him the glad tidings, describing the Buddha&#8217;s glory (SN.vs.1131 45). At the end of his statement, the Buddha, seeing that the minds of both of them were mature, sent forth a ray of light from S\u0101vatthi and, appearing before them, preached to them. Thereupon B\u0101var\u012b became an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palikanon.com\/english\/wtb\/a\/anagami.htm\">an\u0101g\u0101m\u012b<\/a>&nbsp;and Pingiya an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palikanon.com\/english\/wtb\/a\/ariya_puggala.htm\">arahant<\/a>&nbsp;(SNA.ii.603ff).<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Pingiya was called m\u0101nava, even at the age of 120.
