Gijjhakūṭe pabbate viharanti.|| ||
Tena kho pana samayen’āyasmā Channo||
ābādhiko hoti dukkhito bāḷha-gilāno.
Atha kho āyasmā Sāriputto sāyanha-samayaṃ paṭi sallānā vuṭṭhito||
yen āyasmā Mahā Cundo ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||
Upasan-kamitvā āyasmantaṃ mahācundaṃ etad avoca:|| ||
“Āyām āvuso Cunda,||
yen āyasmā Channo ten’upasaṅkamissāma Gilānapucchakā” ti.|| ||
“Evam āvuso” ti kho āyasmā Mahā Cundo||
āyasmato Sāriputtassa paccassosi.|| ||
Atha kho āyasmā ca Sāriputto āyasmā ca Mahā Cundo||
yen āyasmā Channo ten’upasaṅkamiṃsu.|| ||
Upasan-kamitvā āyasmatā Channena saddhiṃ sammodiṃsu.|| ||
Sammodanīyaṃ [264] kathaṃ sārāṇīyaṃ vitisāretvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||
Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho āyasmā Sāriputto āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ etad avoca:|| ||
“Kacci te āvuso Channa khamanīyaṃ,||
kacci yāpanīyaṃ,||
kacci dukkhā vedanā||
paṭi-k-kamanti no abhi-k-kamanti,||
paṭikkamosānaṃ paññāyati no abhi-k-kamo” ti?|| ||
“Na me āvuso Sāriputta khamanīyaṃ,||
na yāpanīyaṃ,||
bāḷhā me dukkhā vedanā||
abhi-k-kamanti no paṭi-k-kamanti,||
abhi-k-kam’osānaṃ paññāyati no paṭikkamo||
seyyathā pi āvuso balavā puriso tiṇhena sikharena muddhānaṃ abhimantheyya||
evam eva kho āvuso adhimattā vātā muddhānaṃ upahananti.|| ||
Na me āvuso Sāriputta khamanīyaṃ,||
na yāpanīyaṃ,||
bāḷhā me dukkhā vedanā||
abhi-k-kamanti no paṭi-k-kamanti,||
abhi-k-kam’osānaṃ paññāyati no paṭikkamo||
seyyathā pi āvuso balavā puriso daḷhena varattakhaṇḍena sīse sīsaveṭhaṃ dadeyya,||
evam eva kho āvuso adhimattā me sīse vedanā.|| ||
Na me āvuso khamanīyaṃ,||
na yāpanīyaṃ,||
bāḷhā me dukkhā vedanā||
abhi-k-kamanti no paṭi-k-kamanti,||
abhi-k-kam’osānaṃ paññāyati no paṭikkamo||
seyyathā pi āvuso dakkho go-ghātako vā||
go-ghātakantevāsī vā||
tiṇhena govikantanena kucchiṃ parikanenteyya,||
evam eva kho āvuso adhimattā vātā kucchiṃ parikantanti.|| ||
Na me āvuso khamanīyaṃ,||
na yāpanīyaṃ,||
bāḷhā me dukkhā vedanā||
abhi-k-kamanti no paṭi-k-kamanti,||
abhi-k-kam’osānaṃ paññāyati no paṭikkamo||
seyyathā pi āvuso dve balavanto purisā dubbalataraṃ purisaṃ nānā-bāhāsu gahetvā aṅg’ārakāsuyā santāpeyyuṃ,||
samparitāpeyyuṃ,||
evam eva kho āvuso adhimanto kāyasmiṃ ḍāho.|| ||
Na me āvuso khamanīyaṃ,||
na yāpanīyaṃ,||
bāḷhā me dukkhā vedanā,||
abhi-k-kamanti no paṭi-k-kamanti,||
abhi-k-kam’osānaṃ paññāyati no paṭikkamo||
satthaṃ āvuso Sāriputta āharissāmi nāvakaṅkhāmi jīvitan” ti.|| ||
Mā āyasmā Channo satthaṃ āharesi.|| ||
Yāpet āyasmā Channo,||
yāpentaṃ mayaṃ āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ icchāma,||
sace āyasmato Channassa n’atthi sappāyāni bhojanāni,||
ahaṃ āyasmato Channassa sappāyāni bhojanāni pariyesissāmi,||
sace āyasmato Channassa n’atthi sappāyāni bhesajjāni,||
ahaṃ āyasmato Channassa sappāyāni bhesajjāni pariyesissāmi,||
sace āyasmato Channassa n’atthi patirūpā upaṭṭhākā,||
ahaṃ āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ upaṭṭhahissāmi,||
māyasmā Channo satthaṃ āharesi,||
yāpet āyasmā Channo,||
yāpentaṃ mayaṃ āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ icchāmā” ti.|| ||
“Na me āvuso Sāriputta n’atthi sappāyāni bhojanāni,||
atthi me sappāyāni bhojanāni,||
na pi me n’atthi sappāyāni bhesajjāni,||
atthi me sappāyāni bhesajjāni,||
na pi me n’atthi patirūpā upaṭṭhākā,||
atthi me patirūpā upaṭṭhākā.|| ||
Api ca me āvuso Satthā pariciṇṇo dīgha-rattaṃ manāpen’eva no amanāpena,||
etaṃ hi āvuso sāvakassa patirūpaṃ yaṃ Satthāraṃ paricareyya manāpen’eva no amanāpena;|| ||
‘Taṃ anupavajjaṃ Channo bhikkhu satthaṃ āharissatī’ ti|| ||
evam etaṃ āvuso Sāriputta dhārehī” ti.|| ||
“Puccheyyāma mayaṃ āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ||
kañcīd eva desaṃ,||
sace āyasmā Channo okāsaṃ karoti pañhassa veyyākaraṇāyā” ti.|| ||
“Pucch’āvuso Sāriputta sutvā vedissāmā” ti.|| ||
“Cakkhuṃ āvuso Channa,||
cakkhu-viññāṇaṃ||
cakkhu-viññāṇa-viññātabbe dhamme,|| ||
‘Etaṃ mama,||
eso ham asmi,||

Evaṃ vutte āyasmā Mahā Cundo āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ etad avoca:|| ||
“Tasmātiha āvuso Channa,||
idam pi tassa Bhagavato sāsanaṃ niccakappaṃ sādhukaṃ manasi kātabbaṃ:|| ||
‘Nissitassa calitaṃ,||
anissitassa calitaṃ n’atthi,||
calite asati passaddhi hoti,||
passaddhiyā sati nati na hoti,||
natiyā asati āgatigati na hoti,||
āgatigatiyā asati cutupapāto na hoti,||
cut’upapāte asati nevidha na huraṃ||
na ubhayam antarena esevanto dukkhassā’ ti.|| ||
Atha kho āyasmā ca Sāriputto||
āyasmā ca Mahā Cundo||
āyasmantaṃ Channaṃ iminā ovādena ovaditvā uṭṭhāy āsanā pakkamiṃsu.|| ||
Atha kho āyasmā Channo acira-pakkantesu||
tesu āyasmantesu satthaṃ āharesi.|| ||
Atha kho āyasmā Sāriputto yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||
Upasan-kamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||
Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho āyasmā Sāriputto Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||
“Āyasmatā bhante, Channena satthaṃ āharitaṃ,||
tassa kā gati ko abhisamparāyo” ti?|| ||
“Nanu te Sāriputta,||
Channena bhikkhunā sammukhāyeva anupavajjatā khyākatā” ti?|| ||
“Atthi bhante, pubbacīraṃ nāma Vajjigāmo,||
tatth āyasmato Channassa mitta kulāni||
suhajja kulāni||
upavajja kulānī” ti.|| ||
Honti hete Sāriputta,||
Channassa bhikkhuno mitta kulāni||
suhajja kulāni||
upavajjakulāni,||
na kho panāhaṃ Sāriputta,||
ettāvatā:|| ||
‘Sa-upavajjo’ ti vadāmi.|| ||
Yo kho Sāriputta imañ ca kāyaṃ nikkhipati,||
aññañ ca kāyaṃ upādiyati,||
tam ahaṃ:|| ||
‘Sa-upavajjo’ ti vadāmi.|| ||
Taṃ Channassa bhikkhuno n’atthi,||
anupavajjaṃ Channena bhikkhunā satthaṃ āharitan” ti.|| ||
Idam avoca Bhagavā. Attamano āyasmā Sāriputto Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ ‘abhinandī’ ti.|| ||
