Ekaṃ samayaṃ Bhagavā Magadhesu viharati,|| pācīnato Rājagahassa Ambasaṇḍā nāma brāhmaṇa-gāmo,|| tass’uttarato Vediyake pabbate Indasāla-guhāyaṃ.|| ||

Tena kho pana samayena Sakkassa devānam Indassa ussukkaṃ udapādi Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya.|| ||

Atha kho Sakkassa devānam Indassa etad ahosi:

“Kahaṃ nu kho Bhagavā etarahi viharati arahaṃ Sammā Sambuddho” ti?|| ||

Addasā kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavantaṃ Magadhesu viharantaṃ,|| pācīnato Rājagahassa Ambasaṇḍā nāma brāhmaṇa-gāmo,|| tass’uttarato Vediyake pabbate Indasāla-guhāyaṃ.|| ||

Disvā deve Tāvatiṃse āmantesi:

“Ayaṃ mārisā Bhagavā Magadhesu viharati,|| pācīnato Rājagahassa Ambasaṇḍā nāma brāhmaṇa-gāmo,|| tass’uttarato Vediyake pabbate Indasāla-guhāyaṃ.|| ||

Yadi pana mārisā mayaṃ taṃ Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkameyyāma Arahantaṃ Sammā Sambuddhan” ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhaddan tavā” ti|| kho devā Tāvatiṃsā Sakkassa devānam Indassa paccassosuṃ.|| ||

2. Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo Pañcasikhaṃ Gandhabba-puttaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

[264] “Ayaṃ tāta Pañcasikha Bhagavā Magadhesu viharati,|| pācīnato Rājagahassa Ambasaṇḍā nāma brāhmaṇa-gāmo,|| tass’uttarato Vediyake pabbate Indasāla-guhāyaṃ.|| ||

Yadi pana tāta Pañcasikha mayaṃ taṃ Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkameyyāma Arahantaṃ Sammā Sambuddhan” ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhaddan tavā” ti|| kho Pañcasikho Gandhabba-putto Sakkassa devānam Indassa paṭi-s-sutvā beluva-paṇḍu-vīṇaṃ ādāya Sakkassa devānam Indassa anucariyaṃ upāgami.|| ||

Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo devehi Tāvatiṃsehi parivuto Pañcasikhena Gandhabba-puttena purakkhato.|| ||

Seyyathā pi nāma balavā puriso samiñjitaṃ vā bāhaṃ pasāreyya pasāritaṃ vā bāhaṃ sammiñjeyya,|| evam evaṃ devesu Tāvatiṃsesu antara-hito Magadhesu pācīnato Rājagahassa Ambasaṇḍā nāma brāhmaṇa-gāmo,|| tass’uttarato Vediyake pabbate paccuṭṭhāsi.

3. Tena kho pana samayena Vediyako pabbato atiriva obhāsa-jāto hoti Ambasaṇḍā ca brāhmaṇa-gāmo,|| yathā taṃ devānaṃ devānubhāvena.|| ||

Api-s-sudaṃ parito gāmesu manussā evam āhaṃsu:|| ||

Āditt’assu nām ajja Vediyako pabbato,|| pajjhāyit’assu nām ajja Vediyako pabbato,|| jalat’assu nām’ajja Vediyako pabbato.|| ||

Kiṃ su nām’ajja Vediyako pabbato atiriva obhāsa-jāto,|| Ambasaṇḍā ca brāhmaṇa-gāmo” ti|| saṃviggā loma-haṭṭha-jātā ahesuṃ.|| ||

4. Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo Pañcasikhaṃ Gandhabba-puttaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

[265] “Durupasaṅkamā kho tāta Pañcasikha Tathāgatā mādisena,|| jhāyi jhāna-ratā,|| tad’antaraṃ paṭisallīnā.|| ||

Yadi pana tāta Pañcasikha Bhagavantaṃ paṭhamaṃ pasādeyyāsi,|| tayā tāta paṭhamaṃ pasāditaṃ pacchā mayaṃ taṃ Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkameyyāma Arahantaṃ Sammā Sambuddhan” ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhaddan tavā” ti|| kho Pañcasikho Gandhabba-putto Sakkassa devānam Indassa paṭi-s-sutvā beluva-paṇḍu-vīṇaṃ ādāya yena Indasāla-guhā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā:|| ||

“Ettāvatā me Bhagavā n’eva atidūre bhavissati na accāsanne,|| saddañ ca kho sossatī” ti|| eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ ṭhito kho Pañcasikho Gandhabba-putto beluva-paṇḍu-vīṇaṃ assāvesi.|| ||

Imā ca gāthā abhāsi Buddh’ūpasaṃ-hitā Dhamm’ūpasaṃ-hitā saṅgh’ūpasaṃ-hitā Arahant’ūpasaṃ-hitā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā:

5. Vande te pitaraṃ bhadde Timbaruṃ Suriya-vaccase,|| Yena jātā’si kalyāṇī ānanda-jananī mama.|| Vāto va sedataṃ kanto pānīyaṃ va pipāsato,|| Aṅgīrasī piyā me’si dhammo arahatām iva,|| [266] Āturass’eva bhesajjaṃ, bhojanaṃ va jighacchato,|| Parinibbāpaya bhadde jalantam īva vārinā.|| Sītodakaṃ pokkharaṇiṃ yuttaṃ kiñjakkha-reṇunā,|| Nāgo ghamm-ā-bhitatto va ogāhe te thanūdaraṃ.|| Accaṃkuso va nāgo ca jitam me tutta-tomaraṃ,|| Kāraṇaṃ na-p-pajānāmi sammatto lakkhaṇūrasā.|| Tayi gathita-citto’smi cittaṃ vipariṇāmitaṃ,|| Paṭigantuṃ na sakkomi vaṅka-ghasto va ambujo.|| Vāmurū saja maṃ bhadde saja maṃ mandalocane,|| Palissaja maṃ kalyāṇi etam me abhipatthitaṃ.|| Appako vata me santo kāmo vellita-kesiyā,|| Aneka-bhāvo samapādi Arahante va dakkhiṇā.|| Yam me atthi kataṃ puññaṃ Arahantesu tādisu,|| Tam me sabbaṅga-kalyāṇi tayā saddhiṃ vipaccitaṃ.|| [267] Yam me atthi kataṃ puññaṃ asmiṃ puṭhuvimaṇḍale,|| Tam me sabbaṅga-kalyāṇi tayā saddhiṃ vipaccataṃ.|| Sakya-putto va jhānena ekodi nipako sato,|| Amataṃ muni jigiṃsāno tam ahaṃ Suriyavaccase.|| Yathā pi muni nandeyya patvā sambodhim uttamaṃ,|| Evaṃ nandeyya kalyāṇi missī-bhāvaṃ gato tayā.|| Sakko ca me varaṃ dajjā Tāvatiṃsānam issaro,|| Tāhaṃ bhadde vareyyāhe evaṃ kāmo daḷho mama.|| Sālaṃ va na ciraṃ phullaṃ pitaraṃ te su medhase,|| Vandamāno namassā’mi yassā s’etādisī pajā ti.

6. Evaṃ vutte Bhagavā Pañcasikhaṃ Gandhabba-puttaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Saṃsandati kho pana te Pañcasikha tanti-s-saro gīta-s-sarena gīta-s-saro ca tanti-s-sarena|| na ca pana te Pañcasikha tanti-s-saro gīta-s-saraṃ ativattati gīta-s-saro va tanti-s-saraṃ.|| ||

Kadā saṃyūḷha pana te Pañcasikha imā gāthā Buddh’ūpasaṃ-hitā Dhamm’ūpasaṃ-hitā,|| saṅgh’ūpasaṃ-hitā Arahant’ūpasaṃ-hitā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā” ti?

“Ekam ida bhante samayaṃ Bhagavā Uruvelāyaṃ viharati najjā Nerañjarāya tīre Ajapāla-nigrodha-mūle [268] paṭham-ā-bhisambuddho.|| ||

Tena kho panāhaṃ bhante samayena,|| Bhaddā nāma Suriya-vaccasā Timbaruno Gandhabba-rañño dhītā,|| tam abhikaṅkhāmi.|| ||

Sā kho pana bhante bhaginī parakāminī hoti.|| ||

Sikhaṇḍī nāma Mātalissa saṅgāhakassa putto,|| tam abhikaṅkhati.|| ||

Yato kho ahaṃ bhante taṃ bhaginiṃ nālatthaṃ kenaci parayāyena,|| ath’āhaṃ beluva-paṇḍu-vīṇaṃ ādāya yena Timbaruno Gandhabba-rañño nivesanaṃ ten’upasaṅkamiṃ.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā beluva-paṇḍu-vīṇaṃ assāvesiṃ,|| imā ca gāthā abhāsiṃ Buddh’ūpasaṃhitā Dhamm’ūpasaṃ-hitā, saṅgh’ūpasaṃ-hitā, Arahant’ūpasaṃ-hitā, kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā.

7. 6. Evaṃ vutte bhante Bhaddā Suriya-vaccasā maṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘Na kho me mārisa so Bhagavā sammukhā diṭṭho,|| api ca suto yeva me so Bhagavā devānaṃ Tāvatiṃsānaṃ Sudhammāyaṃ sabhāyaṃ upanaccantiyā.|| ||

Yato kho tvaṃ mārisa taṃ Bhagavantaṃ kittesi,|| hotu no ajja samāgamo’ ti.|| ||

[269] ‘So yeva no bhante tassā bhaginiyā saddhiṃ samāgamo ahosi,|| na ca dāni,|| tato pacchā’ ti.

8. Atha kho Sakkassa devānam Indassa etad ahosi:|| ||

“Paṭisammodati kho Pañcasikho Gandhabba-putto Bhagavatā,|| Bhagavā ca Pañcasikhenā” ti.

Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo Pañcasikhaṃ Gandhabba-puttaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

“Abhivādehi me tvaṃ tāta Pañcasikha Bhagavantaṃ:|| Sakko bhante devānaṃ Indo sāmacco saparijano Bhagavato pāde sirasā vandatī” ti.

“Evaṃ bhaddan tavā” ti|| kho Pañcasikho Gandhabba-putto Sakkassa devānam Indassa paṭi-s-sutvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādesi:|| ||

“Sakko bhante devānaṃ Indo sāmacco saparijano Bhagavato pāde sirasā vandatī” ti.

“Sukhī hotu Pañcasikha Sakko devānaṃ Indo sāmacco saparijano,|| sukha-kāmā hi devā manussā Asurā Nāgā Gandhabbā|| ye c’aññe santi puthu-kāyā” ti.

Evañ ca pana Tathāgatā eva-rūpe mahesakkhe abhivadanti.

Abhivadito Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavato Indasāla-guhaṃ pavisitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Devā pi Tāvatiṃsā Indasāla-guhaṃ pavisitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhaṃsu.|| ||

Pañcasikho pi Gandhabba-putto Indasāla-guhaṃ pavisitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsi.

9. Tena kho pana samayena Indasāla-guhā visamā yantī samā samapādi,|| sambādhā yantī urundā samapādī.|| ||

Andha-kāra-guhāyaṃ,|| āloko udapādi,|| yathā taṃ [270] devānaṃ devānubhāvena.

Atha kho Bhagavā Sakkaṃ devānam Indaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Acchariyam idaṃ āyasmato Kosiyassa abbhutam idaṃ āyasmato Kosiyassa,|| tāva bahu-kiccassa bahu-karaṇīyassa,|| yad idaṃ idhāṃ gamanan” ti?

“Cira-p-patikāhaṃ bhante Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamitu-kāmo.|| ||

Api ca devānaṃ Tāvatiṃsānaṃ kehici kehici kicca-karaṇīyehi vyāvaṭo evāhaṃ nāsakkhiṃ Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ.|| ||

Ekam ida bhante samayaṃ Bhagavā Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati Saḷalāgārake.|| ||

Atha kho’haṃ bhante Sāvatthiyaṃ agamāsiṃ Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya.|| ||

10. “Tena kho pana bhante samayena Bhagavā aññatarena samādhinā nisinno hoti.

Bhuñjatī ca nāma Vessavaṇassa paricārikā Bhagavantaṃ pacc’upaṭṭhitā hoti pañjalikā namassamānā.|| ||

Atha kho’haṃ bhante Bhuñjatiṃ etad avocaṃ:|| ||

“Abhivādehi tvaṃ me bhagini Bhagavantaṃ:|| ||

Sakko bhante devānaṃ Indo sāmacco saparijano Bhagavato pāde sirasā vandatī” ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ vutte Bhuñjatī maṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘Akālo kho mārisa Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya,|| paṭisallīno Bhagavā’ ti.|| ||

[271] “Tena hi bhagini yadā Bhagavā tamhā samādhimhā vuṭṭhito hoti,|| atha mama vacanena Bhagavantaṃ abhivādehi:|| ||

Sakko bhante devānaṃ Indo sāmacco saparijano Bhagavato pāde sirasā vandatī” ti.

“Kaccī me sā bhante bhaganī Bhagavantaṃ abhivādesi,|| sarati Bhagavā tassā bhaginiyā vacanan” ti?|| ||

“Abhivādesi maṃ sā devānam Inda bhaginī.|| ||

Sarām’ahaṃ tassā bhaginiyā vacanaṃ.|| ||

Api c’āhaṃ āyasmato ca nemi-saddena tamhā samādhimhā vuṭṭhito” ti.

11. “Ye te bhante devā amhehi paṭhama-taraṃ Tāvatiṃsa-kāyaṃ upapannā,|| tesaṃ me sammukhā sutaṃ sammukhā paṭiggahītaṃ:|| ||

‘Yadā Tathāgatā loke uppajjanti Arahanto Sammā Sambuddhā,|| dibbā kāyā paripūranti,|| hāyanti Asura-kāyā’ ti.|| ||

Taṃ me idaṃ bhante sakkhi-diṭṭhaṃ yato Tathāgato loke uppanno arahaṃ Sammā Sambuddho,|| dibbā kāyā paripūranti,|| hāyanti Asura-kāyā” ti.|| ||

Idh’eva bhante Kapilavatthusmiṃ Gopikā nāma Sakya-dhitā ahosi Buddhe pasannā|| Dhamme pasannā|| Saṅghe pasannā|| sīlesu paripūra-kārīni.|| ||

Sā itthi-cittaṃ virāchetvā purisa-cittaṃ bhāvetvā kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannā devānaṃ Tāvatiṃsānaṃ saha-vyataṃ,|| amhākaṃ puttattaṃ ajjhupagatā.|| ||

Tatra pi naṃ evaṃ jānantī:|| ||

‘Gopako deva-putto|| Gopako deva-putto’ ti.

Aññe pi bhante tayo bhikkhu Bhagavati Brahma-cariyaṃ caritvā hīnaṃ Gandhabba-kāyaṃ upapannā.|| ||

Te pañcahi kāma-guṇehi samappitā samaṅgi-bhūtā paricāraya-mānā amhākaṃ upaṭṭhānamāga-c-chanti amhākaṃ pāricariyaṃ.|| ||

Te amhākaṃ upaṭṭhānam āgate amhākaṃ pāricāriyaṃ Gopako nāma deva-putto [272] paṭicodesi:|| ||

“Kuto-mukhā nāma tumhe mārisā tassa Bhagavato dhammaṃ assutvā?|| ||

Ahaṃ hi nāma itthikā samāna Buddhe pasannā Dhamme pasananā Saṅghe pasannā sīlesu paripūra-kārinī itthi-cttaṃ virāchetvā purisa-cittaṃ bhāvetvā kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannā,|| devānaṃ Tāvatiṃsānaṃ sahavyatāṃ|| Sakkassa devānam Indassa puttattaṃ ajjhupagatā.

Idhā pi maṃ evaṃ jānanti:|| ||

Gopako deva-putto Gopako deva-putto ti.|| ||

Tumhe pana mārisā Bhagavatī Brahma-cariyaṃ caritvā hīnaṃ Gandhabba-kāyaṃ upapannā.|| ||

Du-d-diṭṭha-rūpaṃ vata bho addasāma,|| ye mayaṃ addasāma saha-dhammike hīnaṃ Gandhabba-kāyaṃ upapanne’ ti”.|| ||

Tesaṃ bhante Gopakena deva-puttena paṭicoditānaṃ dve devā diṭṭhe’va dhamme satiṃ paṭilabhiṃsu kāyaṃ Brahma-purohitaṃ.|| ||

Eko pana devo te va kāme ajjhāvasi.

12. “Upāsikā cakkhu-mato ahosiṃ nāmam pi mayhaṃ ahu Gopikā ti,|| Buddhe ca Dhamme ca abhi-p-pasannā Saṅghañ c’upaṭṭhāsiṃ pasanna-cittā.|| Tass’eva Buddhassa Sudhammatāya Sakkassa putto’mhi mah-ā-nubhāvo,|| Mahā-jutīko Tidivūpapanto, jānanti pi maṃ idhā Gopako ti.|| Ath’addasaṃ bhikkhavo diṭṭha-pubbe Gandhabba-kāy’ūpagate’ vasīne.|| Ime hi te Gotama-sāvakāse ye ca mayaṃ pubbe manussa-bhūtā.|| Annena pānena upaṭṭhahimhā pādūpasaṃgayha sake nivesane.|| [273] Kuto-mukhā nāma ime bhavanto Buddhassa dhammaṃ na paṭiggahesuṃ.|| Paccattaṃ veditabbo hi dhammo sudesito cakkhu-matānuBuddho,|| Ahaṃ pi tumhe ca upāsamānā sutvāna ariyāna subhā-sitāni,|| Sakkassa putto’mhi mah-ā-nubhāvo mahā-jutīko Tidivūpapanno,|| Tumhe pana seṭṭham upāsamānā anuttare Brahma-cariyaṃ caritvā,|| Hīna-kāyaṃ upapannā bhavanto anānulomā bhavat’ūpapatti,|| Du-d-diṭṭha-rūpaṃ vata addasāma saha-dhammike hīna-kāy’ūpapanne.|| Gandhabba-kāy’ūpagatā bhavanto devānam āga-c-chatha pāricariyaṃ,|| Agāre vasako mayhaṃ imaṃ passa visesataṃ.|| Itthi hutvā svajja pūmo’mhi devo dibbehi kāmehi samaṅgi-bhūto.|| ||

Te coditā Gotama-sāvakena saṃvegam āpādu samecca Gopakaṃ,|| “Handa vitāyamā viyāyamāma mā no mayaṃ parapessā ahumha.”|| [274] Tesaṃ duve viriyaṃ ārabhiṃsu anussara Gotama-sāsanāni,|| Idh’eva cittāni virājayitvā kāmesu ādīnavam addasiṃsu.|| Te kāma-saṃyojana-bandhanāni pāpima-yogāni dura-c-cayāni|| Nāgo va sandāna-guṇāni chetvā deve Tāvatiṃse ati-k-kamiṃsu,|| Sa-Indā-devā sa-Pajāpatikā sabbe Sudhammāya sabhāy’upaviṭṭhā-|| Te saṃnisinnānaṃ ati-k-kamiṃsu vīrā virāgā virajaṃ karontā.|| ||

Te disvā saṃvegam akāsi Vāsavo dev’Ābhibhū devagaṇassa majjhe.|| “Ime hi te hīna-kāy’ūpapannā deve Tāvatiṃse ati-k-kamanti.”|| Saṃvega-jātassa vaco nisamma so Gopako Vāsavam-ajjhabhāsi:|| “Buddho pan’Ind’atthi manussa-loke kām’Ābhibhū Sakyamunī ti ñāyati,|| Tass’ete puttā satiyā vihīnā cūtā mayā te sati paccalatthuṃ.|| [275] Tiṇṇaṃ tesaṃ avasīn’ettha eko Gandhabba-kāy’ūpagato ‘vasīno|| Dve c’eva sambodhi-path-ā-nusārino deve pi hiḷenti samāhitattā.|| Etādisī Dhamma-p-pakāsan’ettha na tathe kiṃ kaṅkhati koci sāvako,|| Nitthiṇṇa-oghaṃ vicikicchā-chinnaṃ Buddhaṃ namassāma jinaṃ janindaṃ.|| Yan te dhammaṃ idh’aññāya visesaṃ ajjhagaṃsu te,|| Kāyaṃ brahma-purohitaṃ duve tesaṃ visesagū.|| Tassa Dhammassa pattiyā āgat’amhāse mārisa,|| Katokāsā Bhagavatā pañhaṃ pucchemu mārisā” ti.

13. Atha kho Bhagavato etad ahosi:|| ||

“Dīgha-rattaṃ visuddho kho ayaṃ Sakko.|| ||

Yaṃ kiñci maṃ pañhaṃ pucchissati.|| ||

Sabbaṃ taṃ attha-saṃhitaṃ yeva pucchissati,|| no anattha-saṃhitaṃ.|| ||

Yaṃ assāhaṃ puṭṭho vyākarissāmi|| taṃ khippam eva ājānissatī” ti.|| ||

Atha kho Bhagavā Sakkaṃ devānam Indaṃ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:|| ||

“Puccha Vāsava maṃ pañhaṃ yaṃ kiñci manas’icchasi,|| Tassa tass’eva pañhassa ahaṃ antaṃ karomi te” ti.

14. Katāvakāso Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavatā imaṃ Bhagavantaṃ paṭhamaṃ pañhaṃ pucchi:|| ||

Kiṃ-saṃyojanā nu kho mārisa devā manussā Asurā Nāgā Gandhabbā ye c’aññe santi puthu-kāyā, te:|| ||

‘Averā adaṇḍā asapattā avyāpajjā viharemu averino ti iti ce n’esaṃ hoti|| atha ca pana saverā sadaṇḍā sasapattā savyāpajjā viharanti verino” ti?|| ||

Itthaṃ Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavantaṃ imaṃ paṭhamaṃ pañhaṃ apucchi.

Tassa Bhagavā pañhaṃ puṭṭho vyākāsi:

“Issā-macchariya-saṃyojanā kho devānam Inda devā manussā Asurā Nāgā Gandhabbā,|| ye c’aññe santi puthu-kāyā,|| te ‘averā adaṇḍā asapattā avyāpajjā viharemu averino ti iti ce n’esaṃ hoti.|| ||

Attamano Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinandi anumodi:|| ||

“Evam etaṃ Bhagavā,|| evam etaṃ Sugata,|| tiṇṇā m’ettha kaṅkhā vigatā kathaṃ-kathā Bhagavato pañha-veyyākaraṇaṃ sutvā” ti.

15. Iti ha Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ [277] abhinan’ditvā anumo-ditvā Bhagavantaṃ uttariṃ pañhaṃ apucchi:

“Issā-macchariyaṃ pana mārisa kiṃ nidānaṃ|| kiṃ-samudayaṃ|| kiṃ-jātikaṃ|| kiṃ-pabhavaṃ,|| kismiṃ sati issā-macchariyaṃ hoti,|| kismiṃ asati issā-macchariyaṃ na hotī” ti?

“Issā-macchariyaṃ kho devānam Inda piy-ā-p-piya-nidānaṃ,|| piy-ā-p-piya-samudayaṃ,|| piy-ā-p-piya-jātikaṃ,|| piy-ā-p-piya-pabhayaṃ,|| piy-ā-p-piye sati issā-macchariyaṃ hoti.|| ||

Piy-ā-p-piye asati issā-macchariyaṃ na hotī” ti.

“Piy-ā-p-piyaṃ pana mārisa kiṃ-nidānaṃ,|| kiṃ-samudayaṃ,|| kiṃ-jātikaṃ,|| kiṃ-pabhavaṃ,|| kismiṃ sati piy-ā-p-piyaṃ hoti,|| kismīṃ asati piy-ā-p-piyaṃ na hotī” ti?

“Piy-ā-p-piyaṃ kho devānam Inda chanda-nidānaṃ,|| chanda-samudayaṃ,|| chanda-jātikaṃ,|| chanda-p-pabhavaṃ,|| chande sati piy-ā-p-piyaṃ hoti,|| chande asati piy-ā-p-piyaṃ na hotī” ti.

“Chando pana mārisa kiṃ-nidāno,|| kiṃ-samudayo,|| kiṃ-jātiko,|| kiṃ-pabhavo,|| kismiṃ sati chando hoti,|| kismiṃ asati chando na hotī’ ti.

Chando kho devānam Inda vitakka-nidāno,|| vitakka-samudayo,|| vitakka-jātiko,|| vitakka-pabhavo,|| vitakke sati chande hoti,|| vitakke asati chando na hotī” ti.

Vitakko pana mārisa kiṃ-nidāno,|| kiṃ-samudayo,|| kiṃ-jātiko,|| kiṃ-pabhavo,|| kismiṃ sati vitakko hoti,|| kismiṃ asati vitakko na hotī’ ti.

Vitakko kho devānam Inda papañ ca saññā-saṅkhā-nidāno,|| papañ ca saññā-saṅkhā-samudayo,|| papañ ca saññā-saṅkhā-jātiko,|| papañ ca saññā-saṅkhā-pabhavo,|| papañ ca saññā-saṅkhāya sati vitakko hoti,|| papañ ca saññā-saṅkhāya asati vitakko na hotī” ti.

16. “Kathaṃ-paṭipanno pana mārisa bhikkhu papañ ca saññā-saṅkhā-nirodha-sāruppa-gāminī-paṭipadaṃ paṭipanno hotī’ ti?

[278] Somanassam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pi.|| ||

Domanassam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pi.|| ||

Upekkham p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pi.

Somanassam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pi” ti.|| ||

Iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ.|| ||

Kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā somanassaṃ:|| ||

‘Imaṃ kho me somanassaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti kusalā dhammā parihāyantī’ ti.|| ||

Eva-rūpaṃ somanassaṃ|| na sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā somanassaṃ:|| ||

‘Imaṃ kho me somanassaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī’ ti.|| ||

Eva-rūpaṃ somanassaṃ sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Tattha yañ ce sa-vitakkaṃ sa-vicāraṃ,|| yañ ce avitakkaṃ avicāraṃ,|| ye avitakke avicāre te paṇītatare.|| ||

Somanassam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti yan taṃ vuttaṃ idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

“Domanassam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti kho pan’etaṃ vutkaṃ.|| ||

Kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā domanassaṃ:|| ||

‘Imaṃ kho me domanassaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti kusalā dhammā parihāyantī’ ti,|| eva-rūpaṃ domanassaṃ na sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā domanasasaṃ:|| ||

‘Imaṃ kho me domanassaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanni kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī’ ti,|| eva-rūpaṃ domanassaṃ sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Tattha yañ ce sa-vitakkaṃ sa-vicāraṃ,|| yañ ce avitakkaṃ avicāraṃ,|| ye avitakke avicāre se paṇītatare.|| ||

“Domanassam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi [279] sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti yan taṃ vuttaṃ idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.

“Upekkham p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ|| kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā upekkhaṃ:|| ||

“Imaṃ kho me upekkhaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti,|| kusalā dhammā parihāyanti” ti|| eva-rūpā upekkhā na sevitabbā.|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā upekkhāṃ:|| ||

“Imaṃ kho me upekkhaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī” ti|| eva-rūpā upekkhā sevitabbā.|| ||

Tattha yañ ce sa-vitakkaṃ sa-vicāraṃ,|| yañ ce avitakkaṃ avicāraṃ,|| ye avitakke avicāre se paṇītatare.|| ||

“Kathaṃ-paṭipanno pana mārisa bhikkhu Pātimokkha-saṃvarāya paṭipanno hotī” ti?

“Kāya-samā-cāram p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

“Vacī-samā-cāram p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

“Pariyesanam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

[280] ‘Kāya-samā-cāram p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī’ ti.|| ||

Iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ.|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā kāya-samā-cāraṃ:|| ||

Imaṃ kho me kāya-samā-cāraṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī’ ti,|| eva-rūpo kāya-samā-cāro sevitabbo.|| ||

“Kāya-samā-cāram p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti yan taṃ vuttaṃ.|| ||

Idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ,

“Vacī-samā-cāram p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ.|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā vacī-samā-cāraṃ:|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā vacī-samā-cāraṃ:|| ||

Imaṃ kho me vacī-samā-cāraṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī’ ti,|| eva-rūpo vacī-samā-cāro sevitabbo.|| ||

“Vacī-samā-cāram p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Iti yan taṃ vuttaṃ|| ||

Idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.

“Pariyesanam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

Kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā pariyesanaṃ:|| ||

‘Imaṃ kho me pariyesanaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyantī’ ti,|| eva-rūpā pariyesanā na sevitabbā.|| ||

Tattha yaṃ jaññā pariyesanaṃ:|| ||

‘Imaṃ kho me pariyesanaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī’ ti,|| eva-rūpā pariyesanā na sevitabbā.|| ||

“Pariyesanam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi|| asevitabbam pī” ti|| iti yan taṃ vuttaṃ idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

“Kathaṃ-paṭipanno pana mārisa bhikkhu indriya-saṃvarāya paṭipanno hotī” ti?

“Cakkhu-viññeyyaṃ rūpam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi,|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

“Sota-viññeyyaṃ saddam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi,|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

“Ghāna-viññeyyaṃ gandham p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pī,|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

“Jivhā-viññeyyaṃ rasam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi,|| asevitabbam pī” ti.|| ||

“Kāya-viññeyyaṃ phoṭṭhabbam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi,|| asevitabbam pi” ti.|| ||

“Mano-viññeyyaṃ dhammam p’āhaṃ devānam Inda du-vidhena vadāmi,|| sevitabbam pi,|| asevitabbam pī” ti.

Evaṃ vutte Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Imassa kho ahaṃ bhante Bhagavatā saṅkhittena bhāsitassa evaṃ vitthārena atthaṃ ājānāmi.|| ||

Yathā-rūpaṃ bhante cakkhu-viññeyyaṃ rūpaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyantī,|| eva-rūpaṃ cakkhu-viññeyyaṃ rūpaṃ na sevitabbaṃ;|| yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante cakkhu-viññeyyaṃ rūpaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī,|| eva-rūpaṃ cakkhu-viññeyyaṃ rūpaṃ [282] sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante sota-viññeyyaṃ saddaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyantī,|| eva-rūpaṃ sota-viññeyyaṃ saddaṃ na sevitabbaṃ;|| yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante sota-viññeyyaṃ saddaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī,|| eva-rūpaṃ sota-viññeyyaṃ saddaṃ sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante ghāna-viññeyyaṃ gandhaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyantī,|| eva-rūpaṃ ghāna-viññeyyaṃ gandhaṃ na sevitabbaṃ,|| yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante ghāna-viññeyyaṃ gandhaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī,|| eva-rūpaṃ ghāna-viññeyyaṃ gandhaṃ sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante jivhā-viññeyyaṃ rasaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyanti,|| eva-rūpaṃ jivhā-viññeyyaṃ rasaṃ na sevitabbaṃ,|| yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante jivhā-viññeyyaṃ rasaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī|| eva-rūpaṃ jivhā-viññeyyaṃ rasaṃ sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante kāya-viññeyyaṃ phoṭṭhabbaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyanti,|| eva-rūpaṃ kāya-viññeyyaṃ phoṭṭhabbaṃ na sevitabbaṃ,|| yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante kāya-viññeyyaṃ phoṭṭhabbaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī|| eva-rūpaṃ kāya-viññeyyaṃ phoṭṭhabbaṃ sevitabbaṃ.|| ||

Yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante mano-viññeyyaṃ dhammā sevato akusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhanti|| kusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| eva-rūpo mano-viññeyyo dhammo na sevitabbo.|| ||

Yathā-rūpañ ca kho bhante mano-viññeyyaṃ dhammaṃ sevato akusalā dhammā parihāyanti|| kusalā dhammā abhivaḍḍhantī|| eva-rūpo mano-viññeyyo dhammo sevitabbo.|| ||

Imassa kho me bhante Bhagavatā saṅkhittena bhāsitassa evaṃ vitthārena atthaṃ ājānato tiṇṇā m’ettha kaṅkhā vigatā kathaṃ-kathā Bhagavato pañha-veyyākaraṇaṃ sutvā” ti.

19. Iti ha sakkā devānaṃ Indo Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinan’ditvā anumo-ditvā Bhagavantaṃ uttariṃ pañhaṃ apucchi:|| ||

“Sabbe va nu kho mārisa samaṇa-brāhmaṇā ekanta-vādā|| ekanta-sīlā|| ekanta-chandā|| ekanta-ajjhosānā” ti.

“Na kho devānam Inda sabbe samaṇa-brāhmaṇā ekanta-vādā|| ekanta-sīlā|| ekanta-chandā|| ekanta-ajjhosānā” ti.

“Kasmā pana mārisa na sabbe samaṇa-brāhmaṇā ekanta-vādā|| ekanta-sīlā|| ekanta-chandā|| ekanta-ajjhosānā” ti?

“Aneka-dhātu-nānā-dhātu kho devānam Inda loko.|| ||

Tasmiṃ aneka-dhātu-nānā-dhātusmiṃ loke yaṃ yad eva sattā dhātuṃ abhinivisanti taṃ tad eva thāmasā parāmassa abhinivissa voharanti:|| ||

‘Idam eva saccaṃ mogham aññan’ ti.|| ||

‘Tasmā na sabbe samaṇa-brāhmaṇā ekanta-vādā|| ekanta-sīlā|| ekanta-chandā|| ekanta-ajjhosānā” ti.

“Sabbe va nu kho mārisa samaṇa-brāhmaṇā accanta- [283] niṭṭhā accanta-yoga-k-khemī|| accanta-brahma-cārī|| accanta-pariyosānā” ti?

“Na kho devānam Inda sabbe samaṇa-brāhmaṇā accanta-niṭṭhā|| accanta-yoga-k-khemī|| accanta-brahma-cārī|| accanta-pariyosānā” ti.

“Kasmā pana mārisa na sabbe samaṇa-brāhmaṇā accanta-niṭṭhā|| accanta-yoga-k-khemī|| accanta-brahma-cārī|| accanta-pariyosānā” ti?

“Ye kho te devānam Inda samaṇa-brāhmaṇā taṇhā-saṅkhaya-vimuttā,|| te accanta-niṭṭhā|| accanta-yoga-k-khemī|| accanta-brahma-cārī|| accanta-pariyosānā.|| ||

Tasmā na sabbe samaṇa-brāhmaṇā accanta-niṭṭhā|| accanta-yoga-k-khemī|| accanta-brahma-cārī|| accanta-pariyosānā” ti.

Itthaṃ Bhagavā Sakkassa devānam Indassa pañhaṃ puṭṭho vyākāsi.|| ||

Attamano Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinandi anumodi:|| ||

“Evam etaṃ Bhagavā|| evam etaṃ Sugata|| tiṇṇā m’ettha kaṅkhā,|| vigatā kathaṃ-kathā|| Bhagavato pañha-veyyākaraṇaṃ sutvā” ti.

20. Iti ha Sakko devānaṃ Indo Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinan’ditvā anumo-ditvā Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Ejā bhante rogo|| ejā gaṇḍo|| ejā sallaṃ|| ejā imaṃ purisaṃ parikaḍḍhati tassa tass’eva bhavassa abhini-p-phattiyā|| tasmā ayaṃ puriso uccā-vacam āpajjati.|| ||

Yesāhaṃ bhante pañhānaṃ ito bahiddhā aññesu samaṇa-brāhmaṇesu okāsa-kammam pi nālatthaṃ,|| te me Bhagavatā vyākatā dīgha-ratt-ā-nusayino,|| yañ ca pana me vicikicchā-kathaṃ-kathāsallaṃ,|| tañ ca Bhagavatā abbūḷhanti.

[284] “Abhijānāsi no tvaṃ devānam Inda ime pañhe aññe samaṇa-brāhmaṇe pucchittho” ti?

“Abhijānām’ahaṃ bhante ime pañhe aññe samaṇa-brāhmaṇe pucchitā” ti.

“Yathā-kathaṃ pana te devānam Inda vyākaṃsu,|| sace te agaru,|| bhāsassū” ti.

“Na kho me bhante garu yatth’assa Bhagavā nisinno Bhagavanta-rūpo vā” ti.

“Tena hi devānam Inda bhāsassū” ti.

“Ye sāhaṃ bhante maññāmi samaṇa-brāhmaṇe:|| ||

“Āraññakā panta-sen’āsanā’ ti.|| ||

Tyāhaṃ upasaṅkamitvā|| ime pañhe pucchāmi.|| ||

Te mayā puṭṭhā na sampāyanti,|| asampāyantā mamaṃ yeva paṭipucchan’ ti:|| ||

“Ko nāmo āyasmā’ ti?|| ||

Tes’āhaṃ puṭṭho vyākaromi:|| ||

“Ahaṃ kho mārisa,|| Sakko devānaṃ Indo” ti.|| ||

Te mamaṃ yeva uttariṃ paṭipucchanti:|| ||

‘Kiṃ pan’āyasmā devānam Indo kammaṃ katvā imaṃ ṭhānaṃ patto’ ti?|| ||

Tes’āhaṃ yathā-sutaṃ|| yathā-pariyattaṃ|| Dhammaṃ desemi.|| ||

Te tāvataken’eva atta-manā honti:|| ||

‘Sakko ca no devānaṃ Indo diṭṭho,|| yañ ca no apucchimha|| tañ ca no vyākāsī’ ti.|| ||

Te aññadatthu mamaṃ yeva sāvakā sampajjanti,|| na c’āhaṃ tesaṃ,|| ahaṃ kho pana bhante Bhagavato sāvako,|| Sot’āpanno avinipāta-dhammo niyato sambodhi-parāyaṇo” ti.

“Abhijānāsi no tvaṃ devānam Inda ito pubbe eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ somanassa-paṭilābhan” ti?

[285] “Abhijānām’ahaṃ bhante ito pubbe eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ somanassa-paṭilābhan” ti.|| ||

“Yathā-kathaṃ pana tvaṃ devānam Inda abhijānāsi ito pubbe eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ somanassa-paṭilābhan” ti?

“Bhūta-pubbaṃ bhante devāsura-saṅgāmo samupabūḷho ahosi.|| ||

Tasmiṃ kho pana bhante saṅgāme devā jiniṃsu,|| Asurā parājiyiṃsu.|| ||

Tassa mayhaṃ bhante taṃ saṅgāmaṃ abhivijinitvā vijita-saṅgāmassa etad ahosi:|| ||

“Yā c’eva dāni dibbā ojā,|| yā va Asurā-ojā,|| ubhayam etaṃ devā paribhuñjissantantī” ti.|| ||

Yo kho pana me bhante veda-paṭilābho|| somanassa-paṭilābho|| sadaṇḍā-vacaro sa-Satthā-vacaro|| na nibbidāya|| na virāgāya|| na nirodhāya|| na upasamāya|| na abhiññāya|| na sambodhāya|| na Nibbānāya saṃvaṭṭati.|| ||

Yo kho pana me ayaṃ bhante Bhagavato dhammaṃ sutvā veda-paṭilābho somanassa-paṭilābho,|| so adaṇḍā-vacaro|| a-Satthā-vacaro|| ekanta-nibbidāya|| virāgāya|| nirodhāya|| upasamāya|| abhiññāya|| sambodhāya|| Nibbānāya saṃvaṭṭatī” ti.

21. “Kiṃ pana tvaṃ devānam Inda attha-vasaṃ sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa paṭilābhaṃ pavedesī” ti?

“Cha kho ahaṃ bhante attha-vase sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemī” ti.|| ||

“Idh’eva tiṭṭha-mānassa deva-bhūtassa me sato,|| Punar āyu ca me laddho evaṃ jānāhi mārisā” ti.

“Imaṃ kho ahaṃ bhante paṭhamaṃ attha-vasaṃ [286] sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.

“Cutā’haṃ diviyā kāyā āyuṃ hitvā amānusaṃ,|| Amūḷho gabbham issāmi yattha me ramatī mano” ti.

“Imaṃ kho ahaṃ bhante dutiyaṃ attha-vasaṃ sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.|| ||

“So’haṃ amūḷha-pañh’assa viharaṃ sāsane rato,|| Ñāyena viharissāmi sampajāno patissato” ti.

“Imaṃ kho ahaṃ bhanne tatiyaṃ attha-vasaṃ sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.|| ||

“Ñāyena ca me carato sambodhi ce bhavissati,|| Aññātā viharissāmi sveva anto bhavissati” ti.

“Imaṃ kho ahaṃ bhante catutthaṃ attha-vasaṃ sampassamāno eva rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.|| ||

Cutā’haṃ mānusā kāyā āyuṃ hitvāna mānusaṃ,|| Puna devo bhavissāmi deva-lokasmiṃ uttamo” ti.

“Imaṃ kho ahaṃ bhante pañcamaṃ attha-vasaṃ sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.|| ||

Te paṇītatarā devā Akaniṭṭhā yasassino,|| Antime vattamānamhi so nivāso bhavissati” ti.

[287] “Imaṃ kho ahaṃ bhante chaṭṭhaṃ attha-vasaṃ sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.

“Ime kho ahaṃ bhante cha attha-vase sampassamāno eva-rūpaṃ veda-paṭilābhaṃ|| somanassa-paṭilābhaṃ pavedemi” ti.|| ||

22. “Apariyosita-saṅkappo vici-kicchi kathaṃ-kathi,|| Vicarī dīgham addhānaṃ anvesanto Tathāgataṃ.|| Y’āssu maññāmi samaṇe pavivitta-vihārino,|| Samabuddhā iti maññāno gacchāmi te upāsituṃ.|| Kathaṃ ārādhanā hoti kathaṃ hoti virādhanā,|| Iti puṭṭhā na sambhonti magge paṭipadāsu ca.|| Tyāssu yadā maṃ jānanti Sakko devānam āgato.|| Tyāssu mam eva pucchanti kiṃ katvā pāpuṇī idaṃ.|| Tesaṃ yathā sutaṃ dhammaṃ desayāmi jane sutaṃ,|| Ten’ass’atta-manā honti diṭṭho no Vāsavo’ ti ca.|| Yadā ca Buddham addakkhiṃ vicikicchā-vitāraṇaṃ,|| So’mhi vītabhayo ajja sambuddhaṃ payirupāsiya.|| Taṇhā-sallassa hantāraṃ Buddhaṃ appaṭi-puggalaṃ,|| Ahaṃ vande mahāvīraṃ ādicca-bandhunaṃ.|| [288] Yaṃ karomasi Brahmuno samaṃ devehi mārisa,|| Tad ajja tuyhaṃ kassāma handa sāmaṃ karoma te.|| Tvam ev’asi sambuddho tuvaṃ Satthā anuttaro,|| Sadevakasmiṃ lokasmiṃ n’atthi te paṭipuggalo” ti.

23. Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo Pañcasikhaṃ Gandhabba-puttaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

“Bah’ūpakāro kho me’si tvaṃ,|| tāta Pañcasikhaṃ, yaṃ tvaṃ Bhagavantaṃ paṭhamaṃ pasādesi.|| ||

Tayā tāta paṭhamaṃ pasāditaṃ pacchā mayaṃ taṃ Bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamimha Arahantaṃ Sammā Sambuddhaṃ.|| ||

Pettike ṭhāne ṭhapayissāmi,|| Gandhabba-rājā bhavissasi,|| bhaddañ ca te Suriya-vaccasaṃ dammi,|| sā hi te abhipatthitā” ti.|| ||

Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ Indo pāṇinā paṭhaviṃ parāmasitvā ti-k-khattuṃ udānaṃ udānesi:|| ||

“Namo tassa Bhagavato arahato Sammā Sambuddhassa!|| Namo tassa Bhagavato arahato Sammā Sambuddhassa!|| Namo tassa Bhagavato arahato Sammā Sambuddhassā” ti.

Imasmiñ ca pana veyyā-kara-ṇasmiṃ bhaññamāne Sakkassa devānam Indassa virajaṃ vīta-malaṃ Dhamma-cakkhuṃ udapādi:|| ||

“Yaṃ kiñci samudaya-dhammaṃ sabban taṃ nirodha-dhamman” ti,|| aññesañ ca asītiyā [289] devatā-sahassānaṃ.|| ||

Iti ha Sakkena devānam Indena ajjhiṭṭha pañhā puṭṭhā,|| te Bhagavatā vyākatā.|| ||

Tasmā imassa veyyākaraṇassa Sakka-pañho t’eva adhivacanan ti.

Sakka-Pañha Suttaṃ Niṭṭhitaṃ Aṭṭhamaṃ.
