[2] Tena kho pana samayen’āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ ati-velaṃ saṃsaṭṭho viharati.|| ||

Evaṃ saṃsaṭṭho āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ viharati:|| ||

Sace koci bhikkhu āyasmato Moliyaphaggunassa sammukhā||
tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati||
ten’āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
kupito||
anatta-mano||
adhikaraṇam pi karoti.|| ||

Sace pana koci bhikkhu tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ sammukhā||
āyasmato Moliyaphaggunassa avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati||
tena tā bhikkhuniyo||
kupitā||
anatta-manā||
adhikaraṇam pi karonti.|| ||

Evaṃ saṃsaṭṭho āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ viharati.|| ||

[3] Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu||
yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho so bhikkhu Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Āyasmā bhante Moliyaphagguno||
bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ ati-velaṃ saṃsaṭṭho viharati.|| ||

Evaṃ saṃsaṭṭho bhante āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ viharati:|| ||

Sace koci bhikkhu āyasmato Moliyaphaggunassa sammukhā||
tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati,||
ten’āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
kupito||
anatta-mano||
adhikaraṇam pi karonti.|| ||

Sace pana koci bhikkhu tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ sammukhā||
āyasmato Moliyaphaggunassa avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati,||

Evaṃ saṃsaṭṭho bhante āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||

[4] Atha kho Bhagavā aññataraṃ bhikkhuṃ āmantesi:|| ||

“Ehi [123] tvaṃ bhikkhu mama vacanena Moliyaphaggunaṃ bhikkhuṃ āmantehi:|| ||

‘Satthā taṃ āvuso Phagguna āmantetī’ ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti kho so bhikkhu Bhagavato paṭi-s-sutvā||
yen’āyasmā Moliyaphagguno ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ Moliyaphaggunaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Satthā taṃ āvuso Phagguna āmantetī” ti.|| ||

“Evam āvuso” ti kho āyasmā Moliyaphagguno tassa bhikkhuno paṭi-s-sutvā||
yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinnaṃ kho||
āyasmantaṃ Moliyaphaggunaṃ Bhagavā etad avoca:|| ||

[5] “Saccaṃ kira tvaṃ Phagguna||
bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ ati-velaṃ saṃsaṭṭho viharasi?|| ||

Evaṃ saṃsaṭṭho kira tvaṃ Phagguna bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ viharasi:|| ||

Sace koci bhikkhu āyasmato Moliyaphaggunassa sammukhā||
tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati,||
ten’āyasmā Moliyaphagguno||
kupito||
anatta-mano||
adhikaraṇam pi karonti.|| ||

Sace pana koci bhikkhu tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ sammukhā||
āyasmato Moliyaphaggunassa avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati,||
tena tā bhikkhuniyo||
kupitā||
anatta-manā||
adhikaraṇam pi karonti.|| ||

Evaṃ saṃsaṭṭho kira tvaṃ Phagguna bhikkhunīhi saddhiṃ viharasī” ti?|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante.”|| ||

“Nanu tvaṃ Phagguna kula-putto saddhā agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabba-jito” ti?|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

[6] “Na kho te etaṃ Phagguna paṭirūpaṃ,||
kula-puttassa saddhā agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabba-jitassa,||
yaṃ tvaṃ bhikkhunīhī saddhiṃ ati-velaṃ saṃsaṭṭho vihareyyāsi.|| ||

Tasmātiha Phagguna tava ce pi koci sammukhā tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ avaṇṇaṃ bhāseyya,||
tatrā pi tvaṃ Phagguna ye geha-sitā chandā||
ye geha-sitā vitakkā te pajaheyyāsi.|| ||

[1] Tatrā pi te Phagguna evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

‘Na c’eva me cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati,||
na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāmi,||
hit-ā-nukampī ca viharissāmi,||
metta-citto na dos’antaro’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi te Phagguna sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

Tasmātiha Phagguna tava ce pi koci sammukhā tāsaṃ bhikkhunīnaṃ pāṇinā pahāraṃ dadeyya,||
leḍḍunā pahāraṃ dadeyya,||
daṇḍena pahāraṃ dadeyya,||
satthena pahāraṃ dadeyya,||
tatrā pi tvaṃ Phagguna ye geha-sitā chandā||
ye geha-sitā vitakkā te pajaheyyāsi.|| ||

[2] Tatrā pi te Phagguna evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

‘Na c’eva me cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati,||
na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāmi,||
hit-ā-nukampī ca viharissāmi,||
metta-citto na dos’antaro’ ti.|| ||

na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāmi,||
hit-ā-nukampī ca viharissāmi,||
metta-citto na dos’antaro’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi te Phagguna sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

Tasmātiha Phagguna tava ce pi koci pāṇinā pahāraṃ dadeyya,||

‘Na c’eva me cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati,||
na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāmi,||
hit-ā-nukampī ca viharissāmi,||
metta-citto||
na dos’antaro’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi te Phagguna sikkhitabbaṃ” ti.|| ||

[7] Atha kho Bhagavā bhikkhu āmantesi:|| ||

“Ārādhayiṃsu vata me bhikkhave||
bhikkhū ekaṃ samayaṃ cittaṃ.|| ||

Idh’āhaṃ bhikkhave bhikkhū āmantesiṃ:|| ||

‘Ahaṃ kho bhikkhave ek’āsana-bhojanaṃ bhuñjāmi.|| ||

Ek’āsana-bhojanaṃ kho||
ahaṃ bhikkhave bhuñjamāno||
app’ābādhatañ ca sañjānāmi||
app’ātaṅkatañ ca||
lahu-ṭ-ṭhānañ ca||
balañ ca||
phāsu-vihārañ ca.|| ||

Etha tumhe pi bhikkhave||
ek’āsana bhojanaṃ bhuñjatha.|| ||

Ek’āsana-bhojanaṃ kho bhikkhave||
tumhe pi bhuñjamānā||
app’ābādhatañ ca sañjānissatha||
app’ātaṅkatañ ca||
lahu-ṭ-ṭhānañ ca||
balañ ca||
phāsu-vihārañ cā’ ti.|| ||

Na me bhikkhave tesu bhikkhūsu||
anusāsanī karaṇīyā ahosi.|| ||

Sat’uppāda-karaṇīyam’eva me bhikkhave tesu bhikkhusu ahosi.|| ||

Seyyathā pi, bhikkhave, su-bhūmiyaṃ||
cātu-m-mahā-pathe||
ājañña-ratho yutto assa ṭhito||
odhasta-patodo,||
tam enaṃ dakkho yogg-ā-cariyo assa-damma-sārathī||
abhirūhitvā vāmena hatthena rasmiyo gahetvā||
dakkhiṇena hatthena patodaṃ gahetvā||
yen’icchakaṃ yad’icchakaṃ sāreyyā pi||
paccāsāreyyā pi,||
evam eva kho, bhikkhave,||
na me tesu bhikkhusu anusāsanī karaṇīyā ahosi.|| ||

Sat’uppāda-karaṇīyam’eva me bhikkhave tesu bhikkhusu ahosi.|| ||

Tasmātiha bhikkhave tumhe akusalaṃ pajahatha||
kusalesu dhammesu āyogaṃ karotha.|| ||

Evaṃ hi tumhe pi imasmiṃ Dhamma-Vinaye vuḍḍhiṃ virūḷhiṃ vepullaṃ āpajjissatha.|| ||

[8] Seyyathā pi, bhikkhave, gāmassa vā||
nigamassa vā||
avidūre mahantaṃ sāla-vanaṃ,||
tañ c’assa elaṇḍehi sañchannaṃ,||
tassa koci’d’eva puriso uppajjeyya atthakāmo hitakāmo yoga-k-khemakāmo,||
so yā tā sāla-laṭṭhiyo kuṭilā ojā-paharaṇīyo tā tacchetvā bahiddhā nīhareyya,||
antovanaṃ su-visodhitaṃ visodheyya,||
yā pana tā sāla-laṭṭhiyo ujukā sujātā tā sammā parihareyya,||
evaṃ h’etaṃ bhikkhave sāla-vanaṃ aparena samayena vuḍḍhiṃ virūḷhiṃ vepullaṃ āpajjeyya.|| ||

Evam eva kho bhikkhave tumhe akusalaṃ pajahatha||
kusalesu dhammesu āyogaṃ karotha.|| ||

[125] Evaṃ hi tumhe pi imasmiṃ Dhamma-Vinaye vuḍḍhiṃ virūḷhiṃ vepullaṃ āpajjissatha.|| ||

[9] Bhūta-pubbaṃ bhikkhave imissā yeva Sāvatthīyā||
Vedehikā nāma gahipatānī ahosi.|| ||

Vedehikāya bhikkhave gahapatāniyā||
evaṃ kalyāṇo kitti-saddo abbhu-g-gato:|| ||

‘Soratā Vedehikā gahapatānī,||
nivātā Vedehikā gahapatānī,||
upasantā Vedehikā gahapatānī’ ti.|| ||

Vedehikāya kho pana bhikkhave||
gahapatāniyā Kāḷī nāma dāsī ahosi,||
dakkhā analasā||
su-saṃvihita-kammantā.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷiyā dāsiyā etad ahosi:|| ||

‘Mayhaṃ kho ayyāya evaṃ kalyāṇo kitti-saddo abbhu-g-gato:|| ||

“Soratā Vedehikā gahapatānī,||
nivātā Vedehikā gahapatānī,||
upasantā Vedehikā gahapatānī” ti.|| ||

Kin nu kho me ayyā santaṃ yeva nu kho ajjhattaṃ kopaṃ||
na pātu-karoti?|| ||

Udāhu asantaṃ?|| ||

Udāhu mayh’ev’ete kammantā susaṃvihitā,||
yena me ayyā santaṃ yeva ajjhattaṃ kopaṃ na pātu-karoti?|| ||

No asantaṃ?|| ||

Yan nūn-ā-haṃ ayyaṃ vīmaṃseyyan’ ti?|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷī dāsī divā uṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Vedehikā gahapatānī||
Kāḷiṃ dāsiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘He je Kāḷī’ ti.|| ||

‘Kiṃ ayye’ ti?|| ||

‘Kiṃ je divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti?|| ||

‘Na kho ayye kiñcī’ ti.|| ||

‘No vata re kiñci pāpi dāsī,||
divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti||
kupitā anatta-manā bhākuṭiṃ akāsi.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷiyā dāsiyā etad ahosi:|| ||

‘Santaṃ yeva kho me ayyā ajjhattaṃ kopaṃ||
na pātu-karoti||
no asantaṃ.|| ||

Mayh’ev’ete kammantā susaṃvihitā,||
yena me ayyā santaṃ yeva ajjhattaṃ kopaṃ||
na pātu-karoti||
no asantaṃ?|| ||

Yan nūn-ā-haṃ bhiyyoso-mattāya ayyaṃ vīmaṃseyyan’ ti?|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷīdāsī divātaraṃ uṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Vedehikā gahapatānī Kāḷiṃ dāsiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘He je Kāḷī’ ti.|| ||

‘Kiṃ ayye’ ti?|| ||

‘Kiṃ je divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti?|| ||

‘Na kho ayye kiñcī’ ti.|| ||

‘No vata re kiñci pāpi dāsī,||
divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti||
kupitā anatta-manā anatta-manavācaṃ nicchāresi.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷiyā dāsiyā etad ahosi:|| ||

‘Santaṃ yeva kho me ayyā ajjhattaṃ kopaṃ na pātu-karoti no asantaṃ.|| ||

Mayh’ev’ete kammantā susaṃvihitā||
yena me ayyā santaṃ||
yeva ajjhattaṃ kopaṃ||
na pātu-karoti||
no asantaṃ.|| ||

Yan nūn-ā-haṃ bhiyyoso-mattāya ayyaṃ vīmaṃseyyan’ ti.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷī dāsī divātaraṃ yeva uṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Vedehikā gahapatānī Kāḷiṃ dāsiṃ [126] etad avoca:|| ||

‘He je Kāḷī’ ti.|| ||

‘Kiṃ ayye’ ti?|| ||

‘Kiṃ je divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti?|| ||

‘Na kho ayye kiñcī’ ti.|| ||

‘No vata re kiñci pāpi dāsī,||
divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti||
kupitā anatta-manā aggaḷasūciṃ gahetvā sīse pahāraṃ adāsi,||
sīsaṃ vobhindi.|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Kāḷī dāsī bhinnena sīsena lohitena gaḷantena paṭivissakānaṃ ujjhāpesi:|| ||

‘Passath’ayyā, soratāya kammaṃ.|| ||

Passath’ayyā, nivātāya kammaṃ.|| ||

Passath’ayyā, upasantāya kammaṃ.|| ||

Kathaṃ hi nāma ekadāsikāya:||
‘Divā uṭṭhāsī’ ti||
kupitā anatta-manā aggaḷasūciṃ gahetvā sīse pahāraṃ dassati,||
sīsaṃ vobhindissatī’ ti?|| ||

Atha kho bhikkhave Vedehikāya gahapatāniyā aparena samayena||
evaṃ pāpako kitti-saddo abbhuggañchi:|| ||

‘Caṇḍī Vedehikā gahapatānī,||
anivātā Vedehikā gahapatānī,||
anupasantā Vedehikā gahapatānī’ ti.|| ||

Evam eva kho bhikkhave idh’ekacco bhikkhu tāva’d’eva sorata-sorato hoti||
nivāta-nivāto hoti||
upasantupasanto hoti||
yāva na amanāpā vacana-pathā phusanti.|| ||

Yato ca kho bhikkhave bhikkhuṃ amanāpā vacana-pathā phusanti,||
atha bhikkhu||
‘sorato’ ti veditabbo||
‘nivāto’ ti veditabbo,||
‘upasanto’ ti veditabbo.|| ||

[10] Nāhaṃ taṃ bhikkhave bhikkhuṃ||
‘suvaco’ ti vadāmi,||
yo cīvara-piṇḍa-pāta-sen’āsana-gilāna-paccaya-bhesajja-parikkhāra-hetu suvaco hoti,||
sovacassataṃ āpajjati.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Taṃ hi so bhikkhave bhikkhu cīvara-piṇḍa-pāta-sen’āsana-gilāna-paccaya-bhesajja-parikkhāraṃ alabha-māno||
na suvaco hoti,||
na sovacassataṃ āpajjati.|| ||

Yo ca kho bhikkhave bhikkhu dhammaṃ||
yeva sakkaronto dhammaṃ||
garu-karonto dhammaṃ||
apacāyamāno suvaco hoti||
sovacassataṃ āpajjati,||
tam ahaṃ ‘suvaco’ ti vadāmi.|| ||

Tasmātiha bhikkhave evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

Dhammaṃ yeva sakkarontā||
dhammaṃ garu-karontā||
dhammaṃ apacāyamānā suvacā bhavissāma,||
sovacassataṃ āpajjissāmāti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi vo bhikkhave sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

[11] Pañc’ime bhikkhave vacana-pathā||
yehi vo pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

[1] Kālena vā||
akālena vā,||
[2] bhūtena vā||
abhūtena vā,||
[3] saṇhena vā||
pharusena vā,||
[4] attha-saṃhitena vā||
anattha-saṃhitena vā,||
[5] metta-cittā vā||
dos’antarā vā.|| ||

Kālena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
akālena vā.|| ||

Bhūtena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
abhūtena vā.|| ||

Saṇhena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
pharusena vā.|| ||

Attha-saṃhitena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
[127] anattha-saṃhitena vā.|| ||

Metta-cittā vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
dos’antarā vā.|| ||

Tatrā pi kho bhikkhave evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

‘Na c’eva no cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati.|| ||

Na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāma,||
hit-ā-nukampī ca viharissāma metta-cittā na dos’antarā.|| ||

Tañ ca puggalaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā pharitvā viharissāma.|| ||

Tadārammaṇañ ca sabbā-vantaṃ lokaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena avyāpajjhena pharitvā viharissāmā’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi vo bhikkhave sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

[12] Seyyathā pi, bhikkhave, puriso āgaccheyya kuddāla-piṭakaṃ ādāya,||
so evaṃ vadeyya:|| ||

Ahaṃ imaṃ mahā-paṭhaviṃ apaṭhaviṃ karissāmīti,||
so tatra tatra khaṇeyya,||
tatra tatra vikireyya,||
tatra tatra oṭṭhubheyya,||
tatra tatra omutteyya:||
‘Apaṭhavī bhavasi,||
apaṭhavī bhavasī’ ti.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha bhikkhave?|| ||

Api nu so puriso imaṃ mahā-paṭhaviṃ||
apaṭhaviṃ kareyyā” ti?|| ||

“No h’etaṃ bhante.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Ayaṃ hi bhante mahā-paṭhavī gambhīrā appameyyā.|| ||

Sā na sukarā apaṭhaviṃ kātuṃ.|| ||

Yāva’d’eva ca pana so puriso kilamathassa vighātassa bhāgī assā” ti.|| ||

[13] “Evam eva kho bhikkhave pañc’ime vacana-pathā,||
yehi vo pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

Kālena vā||
akālena vā,||
bhūtena vā||
abhūtena vā,||
saṇhena vā||
pharusena vā,||
attha-saṃhitena vā||
anattha-saṃhitena vā,||
metta-cittā vā||
dos’antarā vā.|| ||

Kālena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ akālena vā||
bhūtena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
abhūtena vā.|| ||

Saṇhena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
pharusena vā.|| ||

Attha-saṃhitena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā||
vadeyyuṃ anattha-saṃhitena vā.|| ||

Metta-cittā vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
dos’antarā vā.|| ||

Tatrā pi vo bhikkhave evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

‘Na c’eva no cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati.|| ||

Na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāma.|| ||

Hitānukampī ca viharissāma metta-cittā na dos’antarā.|| ||

Tañ ca puggalaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā pharitvā viharissāma -||
tadārammaṇañ ca sabbā-vantaṃ lokaṃ paṭhavīsamena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena avyāpajjhena pharitvā viharissāmāti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi vo bhikkhave sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

[14] Seyyathā pi, bhikkhave, puriso āgaccheyya lākhaṃ vā haliddiṃ vā nīlaṃ vā mañjiṭṭhaṃ vā ādāya.|| ||

So evaṃ vadeyya:|| ||

‘Ahaṃ imasmiṃ ākāse rūpāni likhissāmi rūpapātu-bhāvaṃ karissāmīti.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha bhikkhave?|| ||

Api nu so puriso imasmiṃ ākāse rūpāni likheyya rūpapātu-bhāvaṃ kareyyāti?|| ||

‘No h’etaṃ bhante’|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Ayaṃ hi bhante ākāso arūpī anidassano.|| ||

[15] Evam eva kho bhikkhave pañc’ime vacana-pathā,||
yehi vo pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

Kālena vā||
akālena vā,||
bhūtena vā||
abhūtena vā||
saṇhena vā||
pharusena vā,||
attha-saṃhitena vā||
anattha-saṃhitena vā,||
metta-cittā vā||
dos’antarā vā.|| ||

Kālena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
akālena vā||
bhūtena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
abhūtena vā.|| ||

Saṇhena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
pharusena vā.|| ||

Attha-saṃhitena vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā||
vadeyyuṃ anattha-saṃhitena vā.|| ||

Metta-cittā vā bhikkhave pare vadamānā vadeyyuṃ||
dos’antarā vā.|| ||

Tatrā pi vo bhikkhave evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

‘Na c’eva no cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati.|| ||

Na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāma.|| ||

Hitānukampī ca viharissāma metta-cittā||
na dos’antarā.|| ||

Tañ ca puggalaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā pharitvā viharissāma -||
tadārammaṇañ ca sabbā-vantaṃ lokaṃ paṭhavīsamena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena avyāpajjhena pharitvā viharissāmāti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi vo bhikkhave sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

[16] Seyyathā pi, bhikkhave, puriso āgaccheyya ādittaṃ tiṇukkaṃ ādāya,||
so evaṃ vadeyya:|| ||

‘Ahaṃ imāya ādittāya tiṇukkāya Gaṅgaṃ nadiṃ santāpessāmi samaparitāpessāmī’ ti.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha bhikkhave?|| ||

Api nu so puriso ādittāya tiṇukkāya gaṅgaṃ nadiṃ santāpeyya samparitāpeyyā” ti?|| ||

“No h’etaṃ bhante.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Gaṅgā hi bhante nadī gambhīrā appameyyā.|| ||

Sā na sukarā ādittāya tiṇukkāya santāpetuṃ samparitāpetuṃ.|| ||

so evaṃ vadeyya:|| ||

‘Ahaṃ imaṃ biḷārabhastaṃ madditaṃ sumadditaṃ suparimadaditaṃ mudukaṃ tūliniṃ chinnasassaraṃ chinnababbharaṃ kaṭṭhena vā kaṭhalena vā sarasaraṃ karissāmi bharabharaṃ karissāmī’ ti.|| ||

Taṃ kiṃ maññatha bhikkhave?|| ||

Api nu so puriso amuṃ biḷārabhastaṃ madditaṃ sumadditaṃ suparimadditaṃ mudukaṃ tuliniṃ chinnasassaraṃ chinnabhabbharaṃ kaṭṭhena vā kaṭhalena vā sarasaraṃ kareyya bharabharaṃ kareyyā” ti?|| ||

“No h’etaṃ bhante.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Asu hi bhante biḷārabhastā madditā sumadditā suparimadditā mudukā tulinī chinnasassarā chinnabhabbharā,||
sā na sukarā kaṭṭhena vā kaṭhalena vā sarasaraṃ kātuṃ bharabharaṃ kātuṃ.|| ||

Tatrāpi vo bhikkhave evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ:|| ||

‘Na c’eva no cittaṃ vipariṇataṃ bhavissati.|| ||

Na ca pāpikaṃ vācaṃ nicchāressāma.|| ||

Hitānukampī ca viharissāma metta-cittā na dos’antarā.|| ||

Tañ ca puggalaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā pharitvā viharissāma.|| ||

Tadārammaṇañ ca sabbā-vantaṃ lokaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena avyābajjhena pharitvā viharissāmā’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ hi vo bhikkhave sikkhitabbaṃ.|| ||

[21] Imañ ca tumhe bhikkhave kakacūpamaṃ ovādaṃ abhikkhaṇaṃ mana-sikareyyātha.|| ||

Passatha no tumhe bhikkhave taṃ vacana-pathaṃ aṇuṃ vā thūlaṃ vā yaṃ tumhe nādhivāseyyathā” ti?|| ||

“No h’etaṃ bhante”.|| ||

“Tasmātiha bhikkhave imaṃ kakacūpamaṃ ovāda abhikkhaṇaṃ manasi karotha.|| ||

Taṃ vo bhavissati dīgha-rattaṃ hitāya sukhāyā” ti.|| ||

Idam avoca Bhagavā.

Atta-manā te bhikkhū Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ “abhinandun” ti.|| ||
