Ekaṃ samayaṃ Bhagavā Sāvatthīyaṃ viharati Pubbārāme Migāra-mātu pāsāde.|| ||

Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ-Indo yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ ṭhito kho Sakko devānaṃ-Indo Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

2. “Kittāvatā nu kho bhante bhikkhu saṅkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhaya-vimutto hoti accantaniṭṭho accanta-yoga-k-khemī accanta-brahma-cārī accantapariyosāno seṭṭho deva-manussānan ti?”|| ||

3. Idha devānam-Inda bhikkhuno sutaṃ hoti:|| ||

Sabbe dhammā nālaṃ abhinivesāyāti.|| ||

Evañ-ce taṃ devānam-Inda bhikkhuno sutaṃ hoti:|| ||

Sabbe dhammā nālaṃ abhinivesāyāti,||
so sabbaṃ dhammaṃ abhijānāti||
sabbaṃ dhammaṃ abhiññāya,||
sabbaṃ dhammaṃ parijānāti,||
sabbaṃ dhammaṃ pariññāya yaṃ kañci vedanaṃ vedeti,||
sukhaṃ vā||
dukkhaṃ vā||
adukkha-m-asukhaṃ vā,||
so tāsu vedanāsu anicc’ānupassī viharati,||
virāg-ā-nupassī viharati,||
nirodh-ā-nupassī viharati,||
paṭinissagg-ā-nupassī viharati.|| ||

So tāsu vedanāsu anicc’ānupassī viharanto,||
virāg-ā-nupassī viharanto,||
nirodh-ā-nupassī viharanto,||
paṭinissagg-ā-nupassī viharanto na ca kiñci loke upādiyati.|| ||

An-upādiyaṃ na paritassati.|| ||

Aparitassaṃ paccattaṃ-ñeva pari- [252] nibkhāyati.|| ||

‘Khīṇā jāti,||
vusitaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ,||
kataṃ karaṇīyaṃ,||
nāparaṃ itthattāyā’ ti pajānāti.|| ||

Ettāvatā kho devānam-Inda bhikkhu saṅkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhayavimutto hoti accantaniṭṭho accanta-yoga-k-khemī accanta-brahma-cārī accantapariyosāno seṭṭho deva-manussānanti.|| ||

Atha kho Sakko devānaṃ-Indo Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinan’ditvā anumo-ditvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṃ katvā tatth’ev’antara-dhāyi.|| ||

4. Tena kho pana samayen’āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno Bhagavato avidūre nisinno hoti.|| ||

Atha kho āyasmato Mahā Moggallānassa etad ahosi:|| ||

‘Kin-nu kho so yakkho Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhisamecca anumodi,||
udāhu no.|| ||

Yan-nūn-ā-haṃ taṃ yakkhaṃ jāneyyaṃ:||
yadi vā so yakkho Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhisamecca anumodi,||
yadi vā no’ ti.|| ||

Atha kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno seyyathā pi nāma balavā puriso sammiñjitaṃ vā bāhaṃ pasāreyya,||
pasāritaṃ vā bāhaṃ sammiñjeyya, evam eva Pubbārāme Migāra-mātu pāsāde antara-hito devesu Tāvatiṃsesu pātu-r-ahosi.|| ||

5. Tena kho pana samayena Sakko devānaṃ-Indo ekapuṇḍarīke uyyāne dibbehi pañcahi turiyasatehi samappito samaṅgībhūto paricāreti.|| ||

Addasā kho Sakko devānaṃ-Indo āyasmantaṃ Mahā Moggallānaṃ dūrato va āga-c-chantaṃ.|| ||

Disvāna tāni dibbāni pañca turiyasatāni paṭippaṇāmetvā yen’āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ Mahā Moggallānaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘Ehi kho mārisa Moggallāna,||
sāgataṃ mārisa Moggallāna.|| ||

Cirassaṃ kho mārisa Moggallāna,||
imaṃ pariyāyam akāsi yad idaṃ idh’āgamanāya.|| ||

Nisīda mārisa Moggallāna,||
idam-āsanaṃ paññattan ti.|| ||

Nisīdi kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno paññatte āsane.|| ||

Sakko pi kho devānaṃ-Indo aññataraṃ nīcaṃ āsanaṃ gahetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinnaṃ kho sakkaṃ devānam-indaṃ āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno etad avoca:|| ||

Yathā-kathaṃ pana te Kosiya Bhagavā saṅkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhayavimuttiṃ abhāsi?|| ||

Sādhu mayam pi etissā kathāya bhāgino assāma savaṇāyāti.|| ||

6. “Mayaṃ kho mārisa Moggallāna bahu-kiccā,||
mayaṃ bahu-karaṇīyā,||
app-eva sakena karaṇīyena,||
api ca devānaṃ yeva Tāvatiṃsānaṃ karaṇīyena.|| ||

Api ca mārisa Moggallāna ,sussutaṃ yeva hoti suggahītaṃ [253] sumana-sikataṃ sūpadhāritaṃ yaṃ no khippam-eva antara-dhāyati.|| ||

Bhūta-pubbaṃ mārisa Moggallāna,||
dev-ā-sura-saṅgāmo samūp’abbuḷho ahosi.|| ||

Tasmiṃ kho pana mārisa Moggallāna saṅgāme devā vijiniṃsu;||
Asurā parājiniṃsu.|| ||

So kho ahaṃ mārisa Moggallāna taṃ saṅgāmaṃ abhivijinitvā vijita-saṅgāmo tato paṭinivattitvā Vejayan taṃ nāma pāsādaṃ māpesiṃ.|| ||

Vejayantassa kho pana mārisa Moggallāna pāsādassa ekasataṃ niyyuhaṃ.|| ||

Ekam ekasmiṃ niyyuhe satta satta kūṭā-gārasatāni.|| ||

Ekam ekasmiṃ kūṭāgāre satta satta accharāyo.|| ||

Ekam ekissā accharāya satta satta paricārikāyo.|| ||

Iccheyyāsi no tvaṃ mārisa Moggallāna Vejayantassa pāsādassa rāmaṇeyyakaṃ daṭṭhun ti.|| ||

Adhivāsesi kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno tuṇhī bhāvena.|| ||

7. Atha kho Sakko ca devānaṃ-Indo Vessavaṇo ca Mahārājā āyasmantaṃ Mahā Moggallānaṃ purakkhatvā yena Vejayanto pāsādo ten’upasaṅkamiṃsu.|| ||

Addasāsuṃ kho Sakkassa devānam-indassa paricārikāyo āyasmantaṃ Mahā Moggallānaṃ dūrato va āga-c-chantaṃ.|| ||

Disvāna ottappamānā hirīyamānā sakaṃ sakaṃ ovarakaṃ pavisiṃsu.|| ||

Seyyathā pi nāma suṇisā sAsuraṃ disvā ottapati hirīyati,||
evam evaṃ Sakkassa devānam-indassa paricārikāyo āyasmantaṃ Mahā Moggallānaṃ disvā ottapamānā hirīyamānā sakaṃ sakaṃ ovarakaṃ pavisiṃsu.|| ||

Atha kho Sakko ca devānaṃ-Indo Vessavaṇo ca Mahārājā āyasmantaṃ Mahā Moggallānaṃ Vejayante pāsāde anucaṅkamāpenti anuvicarāpenti:|| ||

Idam pi mārisa Moggallāna passa Vejayantassa pāsādassa rāmaṇeyyakaṃ,||
idam pi mārisa Moggallāna passa Vejayantassa pāsādassa rāmaṇeyyakanti.|| ||

“Sobhat’idaṃ āyasmato Kosiyassa yathā taṃ pubbe katapuññassa.|| ||

Manussā pi kiñci’d’eva rāmaṇeyyakaṃ daṭṭhā evam āhaṃsu:||
sobhati vata bho devānaṃ Tāvatiṃsānan ti.|| ||

Ta-y-idaṃ āyasmato Kosiyassa sobhati yathā taṃ pubbe katapuññassā ti.|| ||

8. Atha kho āyasmato Mahā Moggallānassa etad ahosi:|| ||

Atibāḷhaṃ kho ayaṃ yakkho pamatto viharati.|| ||

Yan-nūn-ā-haṃ imaṃ yakkhaṃ saṃvejeyyan ti.|| ||

Atha kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno tathā-rūpaṃ iddhābhisaṅkhāraṃ abhisaṅkhāsi yathā Vejayan taṃ pāsādaṃ pādaṅguṭṭhakena saṅkampesi sampakampesi sampa- [254] vedhesi.|| ||

Atha kho Sakko ca devānaṃ-Indo Vessavaṇo ca Mahārājā devā ca Tāvatiṃsā acchariyabbhutacittā ahesuṃ:|| ||

Acchariyaṃ vata bho,||
abbhutaṃ vata bho,||
samaṇassa mahiddhi-katā mah-ā-nubhāvatā,||
yatra hi nāma dibbaṃ bhavanaṃ pādaṅguṭṭhakena saṅkampessati sampakampessati sampavedhessatī ti.|| ||

9. Atha kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno sakkaṃ devānam-indaṃ saṃviggaṃ loma-haṭṭha-jātaṃ viditvā Sakkaṃ devānam-indaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Yathā-kathaṃ pana te Kosiya Bhagavā saṅkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhayavimuttiṃ abhāsi?|| ||

Sādhu mayam pi etissā kathāya bhāgino assāma savaṇāyā” ti.|| ||

10. “Idh’āhaṃ mārisa Moggallāna,||
yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkamiṃ.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsiṃ.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ ṭhito kho ahaṃ mārisa Moggallāna Bhagavantaṃ etad avocaṃ:|| ||

Kittāvatā nu kho bhante bhikkhu saṅkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhayavimutto hoti accantaniṭṭho accanta-yoga-k-khemī accanta-brahma-cārī accantapariyosāno seṭṭho deva-manussānan ti.|| ||

Evaṃ vutte mārisa Moggallāna Bhagavā maṃ etad avoca:-|| ||

‘Idha devānam-Inda bhikkhuno sutaṃ hoti:|| ||

Sabbe dhammā nālaṃ abhinivesāyāti.|| ||

Evañ-ce taṃ devānam-Inda bhikkhuno sutaṃ hoti:|| ||

Sabbe dhammā nālaṃ abhinivesāyāti.|| ||

So sabbaṃ dhammaṃ abhijānāti.|| ||

Sabbaṃ dhammaṃ abhiññāya sabbaṃ dhammaṃ parijānāti.|| ||

Sabbaṃ dhammaṃ pariññāya yaṃ kiñci vedanaṃ vedeti||
sukhaṃ vā||

11. Atha kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno Sakkassa devānam-indassa bhā- [255] sitaṃ abhinan’ditvā anumo-ditvā seyyathā pi nāma balavā puriso sammiñjitaṃ vā bāhaṃ pasāreyya pasāritaṃ||
vā bāhaṃ sammiñjeyya,||
evam evaṃ devesu Tāvatiṃsesu antara-hito Pubbārāme Migāra-māt upāsāde pātu-r-ahosi.|| ||

12. Atha kho Sakkassa devānam-indassa paricārikāyo acira-pakkante āyasmante Mahā Moggallāne Sakkaṃ devānam-indaṃ etad avocuṃ:|| ||

Eso nu kho te mārisa so Bhagavā Satthāti.|| ||

Na kho me mārisā so Bhagavā Satthā,||
sabrahma-cārī me eso.|| ||

Āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno ti.|| ||

Lābhā te mārisa,||
yassa te sabrahma-cārī evaṃ mahiddhiko mah-ā-nubhāvo,||
aho nūna te so Bhagavā Satthā ti.|| ||

13. Atha kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Abhijānāti no bhante Bhagavā ahu tañ-ñeva aññatarassa mahesakkhassa yakkhassa saṃkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhayavimuttiṃ abhābhāsittāti”.|| ||

14. “Abhijānām’ahaṃ Moggallāna:||
idha Sakko devānaṃ-Indo yenāhaṃ ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā maṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ ṭhito kho Moggallāna Sakko devānaṃ-Indo maṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Kittāvatā nu kho bhante bhikkhu saṅkhittena taṇhāsaṅkhaya-vimutto hoti accantaniṭṭho accanta-yoga-k-khemī accanta-brahma-cārī accantapariyosāno seṭṭho deva-manussānan ti?”|| ||

Idam avoca Bhagavā.|| ||

Attamano āyasmā Mahā Moggallāno Bhagavato bhāsitaṃ ‘abhinandī’ ti.|| ||
