Ekaṃ samayaṃ Bhagavā Sakkesu viharati||
Kapilavatthusmiṃ||
Nigrodhārāme.|| ||

Tena kho pana samayena Kāpilavatthavānaṃ Sakkānaṃ navaṃ santhāgāraṃ acirakāritaṃ hoti anajjhāvutthaṃ samaṇena vā brāhmaṇena vā kenaci vā manussabhūtena.|| ||

Atha kho Kāpilavatthavā Sakkā yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkamiṃsu.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdiṃsu.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinnā kho Kāpilavatthavā Sakkā Bhagavantaṃ etad avocuṃ:|| ||

“Idha bhante Kāpilavatthavānaṃ Sakkānaṃ navaṃ santhāgāraṃ acirakāritaṃ anajjhāvutthaṃ samaṇena vā brāhmaṇena vā kenaci vā manussabhūtena.|| ||

Taṃ bhante Bhagavā paṭhamaṃ paribhuñjatu,||
Bhagavatā paṭhamaṃ paribhuttaṃ pacchā Kāpilavatthavā Sakkā paribhuñjissanti||
tadassa Kāpilavatthavānaṃ Sakkānaṃ dīgha-rattaṃ hitāya [354] sukhāyā” ti.|| ||

Adhivāsesi Bhagavā tuṇhī-bhāvena.|| ||

Atha kho Kāpilavatthavā Sakkā Bhagavato adhivāsanaṃ viditvā uṭṭhāy’āsanā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṃ katvā yena santhāgāraṃ ten’upasaṅkamiṃsu.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā sabba-santhariṃ santhāgāraṃ santharitvā āsanāni paññā-petvā||
udaka-maṇikaṃ patiṭṭhāpetvā||
tela-p-padīpaṃ āropetvā||
yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkamiṃsu.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhaṃsu.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ ṭhitā kho Kāpilavatthavā Sakkā Bhagavantaṃ etad avocuṃ:|| ||

“Sabba-santhariṃ santhataṃ bhante santhāgāraṃ āsanāni paññattāni,||
udaka-maṇiko patiṭṭhāpito,||
tela-p-padīpo āropito,||
yassa dāni bhante Bhagavā kālaṃ maññatī” ti.|| ||

Atha kho Bhagavā nivāsetvā patta-cīvaraṃ ādāya saddhiṃ bhikkhu-saṅghena yena santhāgāraṃ ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā pāde pakkhāletvā santhāgāraṃ pavisitvā majjhimaṃ thambhaṃ nissāya puratthābhimukho nisīdi.|| ||

Bhikkhu saṅgho pi kho pāde pakkhāletvā santhāgāraṃ pavisitvā pacchimaṃ bhittiṃ nissāya puratthābhimukho nisīdi Bhagavantaṃ yeva purakkhatvā.|| ||

Kāpilavatthavā pi kho Sakkā pāde pakkhāletvā santhāgāraṃ pavisitvā puratthimaṃ bhittiṃ nissāya pacchāmukhā nisīdiṃsu Bhagavantaṃ yeva purakkhatvā.|| ||

Atha kho Bhagavā Kāpilavatthave Sakke bahu-d-eva rattiṃ dhammiyā kathāya sanda-s-setvā samāda-petvā samutte-chetvā sampahaṃ-setvā āyasmantaṃ Ānandaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

“Paṭibhātu taṃ Ānanda Kāpilavatthavānaṃ Sakkānaṃ sekho pāṭipado||
piṭṭhim-me āgilāyati||
taṃ ahaṃ āyamissāmī” ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti||
kho āyasmā Ānando Bhagavato paccassosi.|| ||

Atha kho Bhagavā catugguṇaṃ saṅghāṭiṃ paññā-petvā dakkhiṇena passena sīhaseyyaṃ kappesi pāde pādaṃ accādhāya sato sampajāno uṭṭhāna-saññaṃ mana-sikaritvā.|| ||

Atha kho āyasmā Ānando Mahānāmaṃ Sakyaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

“Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sīla-sampanno hoti,||
indriyesu gutta-dvāro hoti,||
bhojane matt’aññū hoti,||
jāgariyaṃ anuyutto hoti||
sattahi Sad’Dhammehi samannāgato hoti,||
catunnaṃ jhānānaṃ ābhiceta-sikānaṃ diṭṭha-dhamma-sukha-vihārānaṃ nikāma-lābhī hoti akiccha-lābhī akasira-lābhī.|| ||

Kathañ ca [355] Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sīla-sampanno hoti?|| ||

Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sīlavā hoti||
Pātimokkha-saṃvarasaṃ-vuto viharati ācāra-gocara-sampanno,||
aṇumattesu vajjesu bhaya-dassāvī,||
samādāya sikkhati sikkhā-padesu.|| ||

Evaṃ kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sīla-sampanno hoti.|| ||

Kathañ ca Mahānāma ariya-sāvako indriyesu gutta-dvāro hoti?|| ||

Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako cakkhunā rūpaṃ disvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī||
yatvādhi-karaṇam-enaṃ cakkhu’ndriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā-domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati cakkhu’ndriyaṃ,||
cakkhu’ndriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.|| ||

Sotena saddaṃ sutvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇam-etaṃ sot’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati sot’indriyaṃ,||
sot’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.|| ||

Ghānena gandhaṃ ghāyitvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇam-enaṃ ghān’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati ghān’indriyaṃ,||
ghān’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Jivhāya rasaṃ sāyitvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇam-etaṃ jivh’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati jivh’indriyaṃ,||
jivh’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Kāyena phoṭṭhabbaṃ phūsitvā na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇam-enaṃ kāy’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā-dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvarāya paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati kāy’indriyaṃ,||
kāy’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.

Manasā dhammaṃ viññāya na nimitta-g-gāhī hoti n-ā-nu-vyañjana-g-gāhī,||
yatvādhi-karaṇam-etaṃ manendriyaṃ man’indriyaṃ asaṃvutaṃ viharantaṃ abhijjhā domanassā pāpakā akusalā dhammā anvāssaveyyuṃ,||
tassa saṃvaraṃ paṭipajjati,||
rakkhati man’indriyaṃ,||
man’indriye saṃvaraṃ āpajjati.|| ||

Evaṃ kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako indriyesu gutta-dvāro hoti.|| ||

Kathañ ca Mahānāma ariya-sāvako bhojane matt’aññū hoti?|| ||

Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako paṭisaṅkhā yoniso āhāraṃ āhāreti,||
n’eva davāya,||
na madāya,||
na maṇḍanāya,||
na vibhūsanāya,||
yāva-d-eva imassa kāyassa ṭhitiyā yāpanāya,||
vihiṃs’ūparatiyā brahma-cariyānuggahāya:||
‘Iti purāṇañ ca vedanaṃ paṭihaṅkhāmi||
navañ ca vedanaṃ na uppādessāmi,||
yātrā ca me bhavissati anavajjatā ca phāsu-vihāro cā’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako bhojane matt’aññū hoti.|| ||

Kathañ ca Mahānāma ariya-sāvako||
jāgariyaṃ anuyutto hoti?|| ||

Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako||
divasaṃ caṅkamena nisajjāya||
āvaraṇīyehi dhammehi cittaṃ parisodheti.|| ||

Rattiyā paṭhamaṃ yāmaṃ||
caṅkamena nisajjāya||
āvaraṇīyehi dhammehi cittaṃ parisodheti.|| ||

Rattiyā majjhimaṃ yāmaṃ||
dakkhiṇena passena sīhaseyyaṃ kappeti||
pāde pādaṃ||
accādhāya sato sampajāno||
uṭṭhāna-saññaṃ mana-sikaritvā.|| ||

Rattiyā pacchimaṃ yāmaṃ||
paccu-ṭ-ṭhāya caṅkamena nisajjāya||
āvaraṇīyehi dhammehi cittaṃ parisodheti.|| ||

Evaṃ kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako||
jāgariyaṃ anuyutto hoti.|| ||

Kathañ ca Mahānāma [356] ariya-sāvako sattahi Sad’dhammehi samannāgato hoti?|| ||

Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako saddho hoti.|| ||

Saddahati Tathāgatassa bodhiṃ:|| ||

‘Iti pi so Bhagavā arahaṃ||
Sammā Sambuddho||
vijjā-caraṇa-sampanno||
Sugato||
loka-vidū||
anttaro purisa-damma-sārathi||
Satthā deva-manussānaṃ||
Buddho||
Bhagavā’ ti.|| ||

Hirimā hoti.|| ||

Hirīyati kāya-du-c-caritena||
vacī-du-c-caritena||
mano-du-c-caritena.|| ||

Hirīyati pāpakānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ samāpattiyā.|| ||

Ottāpī hoti.|| ||

Ottappati kāya-du-c-caritena||
vacī-du-c-caritena||
mano-du-c-caritena.|| ||

Ottappati pāpakānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ samāpattiyā.|| ||

Bahu-s-suto hoti||
suta-dharo||
suta-sanni-cayo.|| ||

Ye te dhammā ādi-kalyāṇā||
majjhe-kalyāṇā||
pariyosāna-kalyāṇā||
sātthā savyañjanā kevala-paripuṇṇaṃ parisuddhaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ abhivadanti.|| ||

Tathārūpāssa dhammā bahu-s-sutā honti dhatā vacasā paricitā manasā’nupekkhitā diṭṭhiyā suppaṭi-viddhā.|| ||

Āraddha-viriyo viharati akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ pahānāya kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ upasampadāya,||
thāmavā daḷha-parakkamo anikkhitta-dhuro kusalesu dhammesu.|| ||

Satimā hoti paramena sati-nepakkena samannāgato||
cira-katam pi||
cira-bhāsitam pi||
saritā anussaritā.|| ||

Paññavā hoti uday’attha-gāminiyā paññāya samannāgato ariyāya nibbedhi-kāya sammā-dukkha-k-khaya-gāminiyā.|| ||

Evaṃ kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sattahi Sad’Dhammehi samannāgato hoti.|| ||

Kathañ ca Mahānāma ariya-sāvako catunnaṃ jhānānaṃ ābhiceta-sikānaṃ diṭṭha-dhamma-sukha-vihārānaṃ||
nikāma-lābhī hoti||
akiccha-lābhī||
akasira-lābhī?|| ||

Idha Mahānāma ariya-sāvako||
vivicc’eva kāmehi||
vivicca akusalehi dhammehi||
sa-vitakkaṃ||
sa-vicāraṃ||
viveka-jaṃ pīti-sukhaṃ||
paṭhamaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Vitakka-vicārānaṃ vūpasamā||
ajjhattaṃ sampasādanaṃ||
cetaso ekodi-bhāvaṃ||
avitakkaṃ||
avicāraṃ||
samādhi-jaṃ pīti-sukhaṃ||
dutiyaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Pītiyā ca virāgā||
upekkhako ca viharati,||
sato ca sampajāno sukhañ ca kāyena paṭisaṃvedeti,||
yantaṃ ariyā ācikkhanti:||
‘Upekkhako satimā sukha-vihārī’ ti||
taṃ tatiyaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Sukhassa ca pahānā||
dukkhassa ca pahānā,||
pubbe va somanassa-domanassānaṃ atthaṅ-gamā||
adukkha-ṃ-asukhaṃ||
upekkhāsati pārisuddhiṃ||
catutthaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Evaṃ kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako catunnaṃ jhānānaṃ ābhiceta-sikānaṃ diṭṭha-dhamma-sukha-vihārānaṃ nikāma-lābhī hoti||
akiccha-lābhī||
akasira-lābhī.|| ||

Yato kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako evaṃ sīla-sampanno hoti||
evaṃ indriyesu gutta-dvāro hoti||
evaṃ bhojane matt’aññū hoti,||
evaṃ jāgariyaṃ anuyutto hoti||
evaṃ sattahi Sad’Dhammehi [357] samannāgato hoti||
evaṃ catunnaṃ jhānānaṃ ābhiceta-sikānaṃ diṭṭha-dhamma-sukha-vihārānaṃ nikāma-lābhī hoti||
akiccha-lābhī,||
akasira-lābhī||
ayaṃ vuccati Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sekho pāṭipado apuccaṇḍatāya samāpanno bhabbo abhinibhidāya||
bhabbo sambodhāya||
bhabbo anuttarassa yoga-k-khemassa adhigamāya.|| ||

Seyyathā pi Mahānāma kukkuṭiyā aṇḍāni aṭṭha vā dasa vā dvādasa vā,||
tān’assu kukkuṭiyā sammā adhisayitāni sammā pariseditāni sammā paribhāvitāni,||
kiñcā pi tassā kukkuṭiyā na evaṃ icchā uppajjeyya:|| ||

‘Aho vatime kukkuṭa-potakā pādanakha-sikhāya vā mukha-tuṇḍakena vā aṇḍakosaṃ padā’etvā sotthinā abhinibbhijjeyyun’ ti.|| ||

Atha kho bhabbā va te kukkuṭa-potakā pādanakha-sikhāya vā mukha-tuṇḍakena vā aṇḍakosaṃ padāletvā sotthinā abhinibbhijjituṃ.|| ||

Evam eva kho Mahānāma yato ariya-sāvako evaṃ sīla-sampanno hoti,||
evaṃ indriyesu gutta-dvāro hoti,||
evaṃ bhojane matt’aññū hoti,||
evaṃ jāgariyaṃ anuyutto hoti,||
evaṃ sattahi Sad’Dhammehi samannāgato hoti,||
evaṃ catunnaṃ jhānānaṃ ābhiceta-sikānaṃ diṭṭha-dhamma-sukha-vihārānaṃ nikāma-lābhī hoti||
akiccha-lābhī||
akasira-lābhī||
ayaṃ vuccati Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sekho pāṭipado apuccaṇḍatāya samāpanno||
bhabbo abhinibhidāya||
bhabbo sambodhāya||
bhabbo anuttarassa yoga-k-khemassa adhigamāya.|| ||

Sa kho so Mahānāma ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhāsati pārisuddhiṃ āgamma aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati.|| ||

Seyyath’īdaṃ:|| ||

Ekam pi jātiṃ||
dve pi jātiyo,||
tisso pi jātiyo||
catasso pi jātiyo||
pañca pi jātiyo||
dasa pi jātiyo||
vīsatim pi jātiyo||
tiṃsam pi jātiyo||
cattārīsam pi jātiyo||
paññāsam pi jātiyo||
jāti-satam pi jāti-sahassam pi jāti-sata-sahassam pi||
aneke pi saṃvaṭṭa-kappe||
aneke pi vivaṭṭa-kappe||
aneke pi saṃvaṭṭa-vivaṭṭa-kappe amutrāsiṃ||
evaṃ-nāmo||
evaṃ-gotto||
evaṃ-vaṇṇo||
evam-āhāro||
evaṃ-sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī||
evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto amutra udapādiṃ tatrāpāsiṃ||
evaṃ-nāmo||
evaṃ-gotto||
evaṃ-vaṇṇo||
evam-āhāro||
evaṃ-sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī||
evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto idh’ūpapanno.|| ||

Iti sākāraṃ sa-uddesaṃ aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati.|| ||

Ayam assa paṭhamā’bhinibhidā hoti kukkuṭacchāpakasseva aṇḍakosamhā.|| ||

Sa kho so Mahānāma ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhāsati pārisuddhiṃ āgamma dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passati cavamāne upapajjamāne,||
hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate.

Yathā kamm’ūpage satte pajānāmi:|| ||

‘Ime vata bhonto sattā||
kāya-du-c-caritena samannāgatā,||
vacī-du-c-caritena samannāgatā,||
mano-du-c-caritena samannāgatā,||
ariyānaṃ upavādakā,||
micchā-diṭṭhikā,||
micchā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā,||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā||
apāyaṃ duggatiṃ||
vinipātaṃ||
Nirayaṃ upapannā.

Ime vā pana bhonto sattā||
kāya-sucaritena samannāgatā,||
vacī-sucaritena samannāgatā,||
mano-sucaritena samannāgatā,||
ariyānaṃ anupavādakā,||
sammā-diṭṭhikā sammā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā,||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā||
sugatiṃ||
saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannāti.

Iti dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passāmi cavamāne upapajjamāne,||
hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate.

Yathā-kamm’ūpage satte pajānāmi.|| ||

Ayam assa dutiyā’bhinibhidā hoti kukkuṭacchāpakasseva aṇḍakosamhā.|| ||

Sa kho so Mahānāma ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhāsati parisuddhe,||
pariyodāte,||
an-aṅgaṇe,||
vigat’ūpakkilese,||
mudubhūte,||
kammaniye,||
ṭhite,||
ānejjappatte,||
āsavānaṃ khaya-ñāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmesiṃ.

So:|| ||

‘Idaṃ dukkhan’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ dukkha-samudayo’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ dukkha-nirodho’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ dukkha-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.|| ||

‘Ime āsavā’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ āsava-samudayo’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ āsava-nirodho’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ āsava-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.|| ||

Sa kho so Mahānāma ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhā sati-pārisuddhiṃ āgamma āsavānaṃ khayā anāsavaṃ ceto-vimuttiṃ paññā-vimuttiṃ diṭṭhe’va dhamme sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā [358] upasampajja viharati ayam assa tatiyā’bhinibhidā hoti kukkuṭacchāpakasseva aṇḍakosamhā.|| ||

Yam pi kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sīla-sampanno hoti, idam p’issa hoti caraṇasmiṃ.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako indriyesu gutta-dvāro hoti idam p’issa hoti caraṇasmiṃ.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako bhojane matt’aññū hoti idam p’issa hoti caraṇasmiṃ.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako jāgariyaṃ anuyutto hoti idam p’issa hoti caraṇasmiṃ.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako sattahi Sad’Dhammehi samannāgato hoti, idam p’issa hoti caraṇasmiṃ.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako catunnaṃ jhānānaṃ ābhiceta-sikānaṃ diṭṭha-dhamma-sukha-vihārānaṃ nikāma-lābhī hoti akiccha-lābhī akasira-lābhī, idam p’issa hoti caraṇasmiṃ.|| ||

Yam pi kho Mahānāma ariya-sāvako aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati.|| ||

Seyyath’īdaṃ:|| ||

catasso pi jātiyo||

So tato cuto amutra udapādiṃ tatrāpāsiṃ||
evaṃ-nāmo||
evaṃ-gotto||
evaṃ-vaṇṇo||

evaṃ-sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī||
evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto idh’ūpapanno.|| ||

Idam pissa hoti vijjāya.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passati cavamāne upapajjamāne,||
hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate.

Yathā kamm’ūpage satte pajānāmi:|| ||

‘Ime vata bhonto sattā||
kāya-du-c-caritena samannāgatā,||
vacī-du-c-caritena samannāgatā,||
mano-du-c-caritena samannāgatā,||
ariyānaṃ upavādakā,||
micchā-diṭṭhikā,||
micchā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā,||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā||
apāyaṃ duggatiṃ||
vinipātaṃ||
Nirayaṃ upapannā.

Ime vā pana bhonto sattā||
kāya-sucaritena samannāgatā,||
vacī-sucaritena samannāgatā,||
mano-sucaritena samannāgatā,||
ariyānaṃ anupavādakā,||
sammā-diṭṭhikā sammā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā,||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā||
sugatiṃ||
saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannāti.

Idam pissa hoti vijjāya.|| ||

Yam pi Mahānāma ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhāsati parisuddhe,||
pariyodāte,||
an-aṅgaṇe,||
vigat’ūpakkilese,||
mudubhūte,||
kammaniye,||
ṭhite,||
ānejjappatte,||
āsavānaṃ khaya-ñāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmesiṃ.

So:|| ||

‘Idaṃ dukkhan’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ dukkha-samudayo’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ dukkha-nirodho’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ dukkha-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.|| ||

‘Ime āsavā’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ āsava-samudayo’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ āsava-nirodho’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.

‘Ayaṃ āsava-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā’ ti||
yathā-bhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.|| ||

Idam pissa hoti vijjāya.|| ||

Ayaṃ vuccati Mahānāma ariya-sāvako vijjāsampanno iti pi,||
caraṇa-sampanno iti pi,||
vijjā-caraṇa-sampanno iti pi,||
brahmunā kho pan’esā Mahānāma sanaṅkumārena gāthā bhāsitā.|| ||

‘Khattiyo seṭṭho jane tasmiṃ ye gottapaṭisārino,||
vijjā-caraṇa-sampanno so seṭṭho devamānuse’ ti.|| ||

Sā kho pan’esā Mahānāma brahmunā sanaṅkumārena gāthā sugītā||
na duggītā,||
subhā-sitā||
na dubbhā-sitā,||
attha-saṃhitā||
no anattha-saṃhitā||
anumatā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

Atha kho Bhagavā uṭṭhahitvā āyasmantaṃ Ānandaṃ āmantesi:|| ||

“Sādhu sādhu Ānanda, sādhu kho tvaṃ Ānanda Kāpilavatthavānaṃ Sakkānaṃ sekhaṃ pāṭipadaṃ abhāsī” ti.

[359] Idam avoc’āyasmā Ānando.|| ||

Samanuñño Satthā ahosi.|| ||

Attamanā Kāpilavatthavā Sakkā āyasmato Ānandassa bhāsitaṃ abhinandun ti.|| ||
