Ekaṃ samayaṃ Bhagavā Rājagahe viharati Jīvakassa Komārabhaccassa Ambavane.|| ||

Atha kho Jīvako Komārabhacco yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho Jīvako Komārabhacco Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

Sutaṃ me taṃ bhante:|| ||

‘Samaṇaṃ Gotamaṃ uddissa pāṇaṃ ārabhanti,||
taṃ Samaṇo Gotamo jānaṃ uddissa-kaṭaṃ maṃsaṃ paribhuñjati paṭiccakamman’ ti.|| ||

Ye te bhante evam āhaṃsu:

‘Samaṇaṃ Gotamaṃ uddissa pāṇaṃ ārabhanti||
taṃ Samaṇo Gotamo jānaṃ uddissa-kaṭaṃ maṃsaṃ paribhuñjati paṭiccakamman’ ti,|| ||

kacci te bhante Bhagavato vutta-vādino,||
na ca Bhagavantaṃ abhūtena abbh’ācikkhanti,||
dhammassa c’ānudhammaṃ vyākaronti,||
na ca koci saha-dhammiko vād’ānuvādo gārayhaṃ ṭhānaṃ āga-c-chatī” ti?|| ||

[369] Ye te Jīvaka evam āhaṃsu:|| ||

‘Samaṇaṃ Gotamaṃ uddissa pāṇaṃ ārabhanti,||
taṃ Samaṇo Gotamo jānaṃ uddissa-kaṭaṃ maṃsaṃ paribhuñjati paṭiccakamman’ ti,|| ||

na me te vutta-vādino,||
abbh’ācikkhanti ca pana man te asatā abhūtena.|| ||

Tīhi kho ahaṃ Jīvaka ṭhānehi maṃsaṃ ‘aparibhogan’ ti vadāmi:||
diṭṭhaṃ||
sutaṃ||
parisaṅkitaṃ.|| ||

Imehi kho ahaṃ Jīvaka||
tīhi ṭhānehi maṃsaṃ ‘aparibhogan’ ti vadāmi.|| ||

Tīhi kho ahaṃ Jīvaka ṭhānehi maṃsaṃ ‘paribhogan’ ti vadāmi:||
adiṭṭhaṃ||
asutaṃ||
aparisaṅkitaṃ.

Imehi kho ahaṃ Jīvaka tīhi ṭhānehi maṃsaṃ ‘paribhogan’ ti vadāmi.|| ||

 


 

Idha Jīvaka, bhikkhu aññataraṃ gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā upanissāya viharati.|| ||

So mettā-saha-gatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati.|| ||

Tathā dutiyaṃ||
tathā tatiyaṃ||
tathā catutthiṃ.|| ||

Iti uddham-adho tiriyaṃ sabbadhi sabbattatāya sabbā-vantaṃ lokaṃ mettā-saha-gatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena avyāpajjhena pharitvā viharati.|| ||

Tam enaṃ gahapati vā gahapati-putto vā upasaṅkamitvā svātanāya bhattena nimanteti.|| ||

Ākaṅkha-māno va Jīvaka bhikkhu adhivāseti.|| ||

So tassā rattiyā accayena pubbaṇha-samayaṃ nivāsetvā patta-cīvaram ādāya yena tassa gahapatissa vā gahapati-puttassa vā nivesanaṃ ten’upasaṅkamati||
upasaṅkamitvā paññatte āsane nisīdati.|| ||

Tam enaṃ so gahapati vā gahapati-putto vā paṇītena piṇḍa-pātena parivisati.|| ||

Tassa na evaṃ hoti:|| ||

Sādhu vata māyaṃ gahapati vā gahapati-putto vā paṇītena piṇḍa-pātena parivisati,||
aho vata māyaṃ gahapati vā gahapati-putto vā āyatim pi eva-rūpena paṇītena piṇḍa-pātena pariviseyyāti.|| ||

Evam pi’ssa na hoti.|| ||

So taṃ piṇḍa-pātaṃ agathito amucchito anajjhopanno ādīnava-dassāvī nissaraṇa-pañño paribhuñjati.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi Jīvaka?

Api nu so bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye attavyābādhāya vā ceteti,||
paravyābādhāya vā ceteti,||
ubhayavyāvādhāya vā cetetī” ti?|| ||

“No h’etaṃ bhante.”|| ||

“Nanu so Jīvaka bhikkhu tasmiṃ samaye anavajjaṃ yeva āhāraṃ āhāretī” ti.|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante.|| ||

Sutaṃ me taṃ bhante,||
‘Brahmā mettā-vihārī’ ti.|| ||

Tam me idaṃ bhante Bhagavā sakkhi diṭṭho,||
Bhagavā hi bhante mettā-vihārī” ti.|| ||

“Yena kho Jīvaka rāgena||
yena [370] dosena||
yena mohena||
vyāpādavā assa,||
so rāgo||
so doso||
so moho||
Tathāgatassa pahīno ucchinna-mūlo tālā-vatthu-kato anabhāva-kato āyatiṃ anuppāda-dhammo.|| ||

Sace kho te Jīvakaṃ idaṃ sandhāya bhāsitaṃ,||
anujānāmi te etan” ti.|| ||

“Etad eva kho pana me bhante sandhāya bhāsitaṃ.”|| ||

“Idha Jīvaka bhikkhu aññataraṃ gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā upanissāya viharati.|| ||

So karuṇā-saha-gatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati.|| ||

Tathā dutiyaṃ||
tathā tatiyaṃ||
tathā catutthiṃ.|| ||

yena mohena||
vyāpādavā assa,||
so rāgo||
so doso||
so moho||
Tathāgatassa pahīno ucchinna-mūlo tālā-vatthu-kato anabhāva-kato āyatiṃ anuppāda-dhammo.|| ||

Sace kho te Jīvakaṃ idaṃ sandhāya bhāsitaṃ,||
anujānāmi te etan” ti.|| ||

so pañcahi ṭhānehi bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavati:|| ||

Yam pi so evam āha:|| ||

‘Gacchatha amukaṃ nāma pāṇaṃ ānethā’ ti.|| ||

Iminā paṭhamena ṭhānena bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavati.|| ||

Yam pi so pāṇo galappavedhakena ānīyamāno dukkhaṃ domanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedeti.|| ||

Iminā dutiyena ṭhānena bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavati.|| ||

Yam pi so evam āha:|| ||

‘Gacchatha imaṃ pāṇaṃ ārabhatā’ ti.|| ||

Iminā tatiyena ṭhānena bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavati.|| ||

Yam pi so pāṇo ārabhiyamāno dukkhaṃ domanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedeti.|| ||

Iminā catutthena ṭhānena bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavati.|| ||

Yam pi so Tathāgataṃ vā Tathāgata-sāvakaṃ vā akappiyena āsādeti.|| ||

Iminā pañcamena ṭhānena bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavati.|| ||

Yo kho Jīvaka Tathāgataṃ vā Tathāgata-sāvakaṃ vā uddissa pāṇaṃ ārabhati||
so imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi bahuṃ apuññaṃ pasavatī” ti.|| ||

Evaṃ vutte Jīvako komārabhacco Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Acchariyam bhante!|| ||

Abbhutam bhante!|| ||

Kappiyaṃ vata bhante bhikkhū āhāraṃ āhārenti.|| ||

Anavajjaṃ vata bhante bhikkhū āhāraṃ āhārenti.|| ||

Abhikkantaṃ bhante!|| ||

Abhikkantaṃ bhante!|| ||

Seyyathā pi bho Gotama nikkujjitaṃ vā ukkujjeyya,||
paṭi-c-channaṃ vā vīvareyya,||
mūḷhassa vā Maggaṃ ācikkheyya’ andha-kāre vā tela-pajjotaṃ dhāreyya,||
‘cakkhu-manto rūpāni dakkhintī’ ti,||
evam eva bhotā Gotamena aneka-pariyāyena dhammo pakāsito.|| ||

Es’āhaṃ bhavantaṃ Gotamaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi||
Dhammañ ca||
bhikkhu-saṅghañ ca.|| ||

Upāsakaṃ maṃ bhavaṃ Gotamo dhāretu ajja-t-agge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gatan” ti.|| ||
