Atha kho Pañcakaṅgo thapati yen’āyasmā Udāyī ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā āyasmantaṃ Udāyiṃ abhivādetvā eka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho Pañcakaṅgo thapati āyasmantaṃ Udāyiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Kati nu kho bhante Udāyī vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā” ti?|| ||

“Tisso kho gahapati vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā:||
sukhā vedanā,||
dukkhā vedanā,||
adukkha-m-asukhā vedanā.|| ||

[397] Imā kho gahapati tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

Evaṃ vutte Pañcakaṅgo thapati āyasmantaṃ Udāyiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Na kho bhante Udāyi tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā.|| ||

Dve bhante vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā sukhā vedanā dukkhā-vedanā.|| ||

Yāyaṃ bhante adukkha-m-asukhā vedanā,||
sattasmiṃ esā paṇite sukhe vuttā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

Dutiyam pi kho āyasmā Udāyi Pañcakaṅgaṃ thapatiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Na kho gahapati dve vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā,||
tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā:||
sukhā vedanā,||
dukkhā vedanā,||
adukkha-m-asukhā vedanā.|| ||

Imā tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

Dutiyam pi kho Pañcakaṅgo thapati āyasmantaṃ Udāyiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Na kho bhante Udāyi tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā,||
dve vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā:||
sukhā vedanā,||
dukkhā vedanā.|| ||

Yāyaṃ bhante adukkha-m-asukhā vedanā santasmiṃ esā paṇīte sukhe vuttā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

Tatiyam pi kho āyasmā Udāyi Pañcakaṅgaṃ thapati etad avoca:|| ||

“Na kho gahapati dve vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā,||
tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā:||
sukhā vedanā,||
dukkhā vedanā,||
adukkha-m-asukhā vedanā.|| ||

Imā tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

Tatiyam pi kho Pañcakaṅgo thapati āyasmantaṃ Udāyiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

“Na kho bhante Udāyi tisso vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā,||
dve vedanā vuttā Bhagavatā:||
sukhā vedanā,||
dukkhā vedanā.|| ||

Yāyaṃ bhante adukkha-m-asukhā vedanā santasmiṃ esā paṇīte sukhe vuttā Bhagavatā” ti.|| ||

N’eva kho asakkhi āyasmā Udāyī Pañcakaṅgaṃ thapatiṃ saññāpetuṃ,||
na pana asakkhi Pañcakaṅgo thapati āyasmantaṃ Udāyiṃ saññāpetuṃ.|| ||

 


 

Assosi kho āyasmā Ānando āyasmato Udāyissa Pañcakaṅgena thapatinā saddhiṃ imaṃ kathā-sallāpaṃ.|| ||

Atha kho āyasmā Ānando yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvāeka-m-antaṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ nisinno kho āyasmā Ānando yāvatako āyasmato Udāyissa Pañcakaṅgena thapatinā saddhiṃ ahosi kathā-sallāpo taṃ sabbaṃ Bhagavato ārocesi.|| ||

Santaṃ yeva kho Ānanda pariyāyaṃ Pañcakaṅgo thapati Udāyissa bhikkhuno nābbhanumodi,||
santañ ca pan’Ānanda pariyāyaṃ Udāyi bhikkhu Pañcakaṅgassa thapatino nābbhanumodi.|| ||

Dve pi mayā Ānanda vedanā vuttā [398] pariyāyena.|| ||

Tisso pi mayā vedanā vuttā pariyāyena.|| ||

Pañca pi mayā vedanā vuttā pariyāyena.|| ||

Cha pi mayā vedanā vuttā pariyāyena.|| ||

Aṭṭhārasā pi mayā vedanā vuttā pariyāyena.|| ||

Chattiṃsā pi mayā vedanā vuttā pariyāyena.|| ||

Aṭṭhasatam pi mayā vedanā vuttā pariyāyena.|| ||

Evaṃ pariyāya-desito kho Ānanda mayā dhammo.|| ||

Evaṃ pariyāya desite kho Ānanda mayā dhamme ye añña-maññassa su-bhāsitaṃ sulapitaṃ na samanumaññissanti||
na samanujānissanti||
na samanumodissanti.|| ||

Tessam etaṃ pāṭikaṅakhaṃ bhanḍana-jātā kalaha-jātā vivādāpannā añña-maññaṃ mukhasatatīhi vitudantā viharissantī.|| ||

Evaṃ pariyāya-desito kho Ānanda mayā dhammo|| ||

Evaṃ pariyāya desite kho Ānanda mayā dhamme ye añña-maññassa su-bhāsitaṃ sulapitaṃ samanumaññissanti samanujānissanti,||
samanumodissanti.|| ||

Tesaṃ etaṃ pāṭikaṅkhaṃ,||
samaggā sammodamānā avivadamānā khīrodakī bhūtā añña-maññaṃ piyacakkhūhī sampassantā viharissantī.|| ||

Pañc’ime Ānanda kāma-guṇā.|| ||

Katame pañca?|| ||

Cakkhu-viññeyyā rūpā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piya-rūpā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā rajanīyā.|| ||

Sota-viññeyyā saddā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piya-rūpā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā rajanīyā.|| ||

Ghāna-viññeyyā gandhā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piya-rūpā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā rajanīyā.|| ||

Jivhā-viññeyyā rasā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piya-rūpā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā rajanīyā.|| ||

Kāya-viññeyyā phoṭṭhabbā iṭṭhā kantā manāpā piya-rūpā kām’ūpasaṃ-hitā rajanīyā.|| ||

Ime kho Ānanda pañca kāma-guṇā.|| ||

Yaṃ kho Ānanda ime pañca kāma-guṇe paṭicca uppajjati sukhaṃ somanassaṃ,||
idaṃ vuccati kāma-sukhaṃ.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

[399] Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Atth’Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantatarañ ca||
paṇītatarañ ca.|| ||

Katamañ c’Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantatarañ ca||
paṇītatarañ ca?|| ||

Idh’Ānanda bhikkhu||
vivicc’eva kāmehi||
vivicca akusalehi dhammehi||
sa-vitakkaṃ||
sa-vicāraṃ||
viveka-jaṃ||
pīti-sukhaṃ||
paṭhamaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantatarañ ca||
paṇītatarañ ca.|| ||

vitakka-vicārānaṃ vūpasamā||
ajjhattaṃ sampasādanaṃ||
cetaso ekodi-bhāvaṃ||
avitakkaṃ avicāraṃ||
samādhi-jaṃ||
pīti-sukhaṃ||
dutiyaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

pītiyā ca virāgā||
upekkhako ca viharati||
sato ca sampajāno sukhañ ca||
kāyena paṭisaṃvedeti,||
yan taṃ ariyā ācikkhanti,||
‘Upekkhako satimā sukha-vihārī’ ti,||
taṃ tatiyaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

pubb’eva somanassa-domanassānaṃ attha-gamā||
adukkha-m-asukhaṃ||
upekkhāsati||
pārisuddhiṃ||
catutthaṃ-jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

Ākāsanañ-c’āyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

‘N’atthi Kiñci’ ti||
Ākiñ caññ’āyatanam upasampajja viharati.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

[400] Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ye kho Ānanda evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Etaṃ paramaṃ sattā sukhaṃ somanassaṃ paṭisaṃvedentī’ ti.|| ||

Idaṃ nes’āhaṃ nānujānāmi.|| ||

Idaṃ kho Ānanda etamhā sukhā||
aññaṃ sukhaṃ||
abhikkantarañ ca||
paṇītatarañca.|| ||

Ṭhānaṃ kho pan’etaṃ Ānanda vijjati yaṃ añña-titthiyā paribbājakā evaṃ vadeyyuṃ:|| ||

‘Saññā-vedayita-nirodhaṃ Samaṇo Gotamo āha,||
tañ ca sukhasmiṃ paññāpeti,||
tayidaṃ kiṃ su tayidaṃ kathaṃsū’ ti?|| ||

Evaṃ vādino Ānanda añña-titthiyā paribbājakā evam assu vacanīyā:|| ||

‘Na kho āvuso Bhagavā sukhaṃ yeva vedanaṃ sandhāya sukhasmiṃ paññāpeti,||
yattha yatth’āvuso sukhaṃ upalabbhati,||
yaṃ hi yaṃ hi sukhaṃ taṃ||
taṃ Tathāgato sukhasmiṃ paññāpetī” ti.|| ||
