Ekaṃ samayaṃ Bhagavā Aṅguttarāpesu viharati||
Āpaṇaṃ nāma Aṅguttarāpānaṃ nigamo.|| ||

Atha kho Bhagavā pubbaṇha-samayaṃ nivāsetvā patta-cīvaraṃ ādāya Āpaṇaṃ piṇḍāya pāvisi.|| ||

Āpaṇe piṇḍāyā caritvā pacchā-bhattaṃ piṇḍa-pāta-paṭikkanto yen’aññataro vana-saṇḍo ten’upasaṅkami divā-vihārāya.|| ||

Taṃ vana-saṇḍaṃ ajjhoga-hetvā aññatarasmiṃ rukkha-mūle divā-vihāraṃ nisīdi.|| ||

Potaliyo pi kho gahapati sampannanivāsanapāpuraṇo chattupāhanāhi jaṅghā-vihāraṃ anuvicaramāno anucaṅkamamāno yena so vana-saṇḍo ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Taṃ vana-saṇḍaṃ ajjhoga-hetvā yena Bhagavā ten’upasaṅkami.|| ||

Upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodi.|| ||

Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sārāṇīyaṃ vīti-sāretvā eka-m-antaṃ aṭṭhāsi.|| ||

Eka-m-antaṃ ṭhitaṃ kho Potaliyaṃ gahapatiṃ Bhagavā etad avoca:|| ||

‘Saṅvijjante kho gahapati āsanāni,||
sace ākaṅkhasi nisīdā’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ vutte Potaliyo gahapati||
‘gahapativādena maṃ Samaṇo Gotamo samudā-caratī’ ti||
kupito anatta-mano tuṇhī ahosi.|| ||

Dutiyam pi kho Bhagavā Potaliyaṃ gahapatiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘Saṅvijjante kho gahapati āsanāni,||
sace ākaṅkhasi nisīdā’ ti.|| ||

Dutiyam pi kho Potaliyo gahapati||
‘gahapativādena maṃ Samaṇo Gotamo samudā-caratī’ ti||
kupito anatta-mano tuṇhī ahosi.|| ||

Tatiyam pi kho Bhagavā Potaliyaṃ gahapatiṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘Saṅvijjante kho gahapati āsanāni,||
sace ākaṅkhasi nisidā’ ti.|| ||

Evaṃ vutte Potaliyo gahapati||
‘gahapati-vādena maṃ Samaṇo Gotamo samudā-cara’ ti||
pi kupito anatta-mano Bhagavantaṃ etad avoca:|| ||

‘Ta-y-idaṃ [360] bho Gotama na-cchannaṃ,||
ta-y-idaṃ na-ppaṭirūpaṃ,||
yaṃ maṃ tvaṃ gahapati-vādena samudā-carasī’ ti.|| ||

‘Te hi te gahapati ākārā te liṅgā te nimittā yathā taṃ gahapatissā’ ti.|| ||

‘Tathā hi pana me bho Gotama sabbe kammantā paṭikkhittā,||
sabbe vohārā samucchinnā’ ti.|| ||

‘Yathā kathaṃ pana te gahapati sabbe kammantā paṭikkhittā,||
sabbe vohārā samucchinnā’ ti?|| ||

‘Idha me bho Gotama yaṃ ahosi dhanaṃ vā dhaññaṃ vā rajataṃ vā jāta-rūpaṃ vā sabbaṃ taṃ puttānaṃ dāyajjaṃ niyyātaṃ,||
tatth-ā-haṃ anovādī anupavādī ghāsa-c-chādanaparamo viharāmi.|| ||

Evaṃ kho me bho Gotama sabbe kammantā paṭikkhittā sabbe vohārā samucchinnā’ ti.|| ||

‘Aññathā kho tvaṃ gahapati vohārasamucchedaṃ vadesi1 aññathā ca pana ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedo hotī’ ti.|| ||

‘Yathā kathaṃ pana bhante ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedo hoti.|| ||

Sādhu me bhante Bhagavā tathā dhammaṃ desetu||
yathā ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedo hotī’ ti.|| ||

‘Tena hi gahapati suṇāhi sādhukaṃ mana-sikarohi bhāsissāmī’ ti.|| ||

‘Evaṃ bhante’ ti kho Potaliyo gahapati Bhagavato paccassosi.|| ||

Bhagavā etad avoca:|| ||

‘Aṭṭha kho ime gahapati dhammā ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedāya saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Katame aṭṭha?|| ||

Apāṇ-ā-tipātaṃ nissāya pāṇ-ā-tipāto pahātabbo,||
dinnādānaṃ nissāya adinn’ādānaṃ pahātabbaṃ,||
saccaṃ vācaṃ nissāya musā-vādo pahātabbo,||
apisunaṃ vācaṃ nissāya pisunā vācā pahātabbā,||
agiddhilobhaṃ nissāya giddhilobho pahātabbo,||
anindārosaṃ nissāya nindāroso pahātabbo,||
akodhūpāyāsaṃ nissāya kodhūpāyāso pahātabbo,||
anati-mānaṃ nissāya ati-māno pahātabbo.|| ||

Ime kho gahapati aṭṭhadhammā saṅkhittena vuttā vitthārena avibhattā ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedāya saṃvaṭṭantī’ ti.

 


 

‘Ye’me bhante Bhagavatā aṭṭha dhammā saṅkhittena vuttā vitthārena avibhattā ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedāya saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Sādhu me bhante Bhagavā ime aṭṭha dhamme vitthārena vibhajatu anukampaṃ upādāyā’ ti.|| ||

‘Tena hi gahapati suṇāhi sādhukaṃ mana-sikarohi bhāsissāmī’ ti.|| ||

‘Evaṃ bhante’ ti kho Potaliyo gahapati Bhagavato paccassosi.|| ||

Bhagavā etad avoca:

[361] ‘Apāṇ-ā-tipātaṃ nissāya pāṇ-ā-tipāto pahātabbo’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu pāṇ-ā-tipāti assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samūcchedāya paṭipanno,||
ahañ c’eva kho pana pāṇ-ā-tipāti assaṃ||
attā pi maṃ upavadeyya pāṇ-ā-tipāta-paccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ pāṇ-ā-tipāta-paccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā pāṇ-ā-tipāta-paccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ pāṇ-ā-tipāto,||
ye ca pāṇ-ā-tipāta-paccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā,||
pāṇ-ā-tipātā paṭiviratassa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.”|| ||

‘Apāṇ-ā-tipātaṃ nissāya pāṇ-ā-tipāto pahātabbo’ ti iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ,||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

‘Dinnādānaṃ nissāya adinn’ādānaṃ pahātabban’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu adinn’ādāyī assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samucrachedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana adinn’ādāyī assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavadeyya adinn’ādāna-paccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ adinn’ādāna-paccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā adinn’ādāna-paccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ adinn’ādānaṃ,||
ye ca adinn’ādāna-paccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā,||
adinn’ādānā paṭiviratassa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.”|| ||

‘Dinnādānaṃ nissāya adinn’ādānaṃ pahātabban’ ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ,||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

‘Saccaṃ vācaṃ nissāya musā-vādo pahātabbo’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu musā-vādī assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samucchedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana musā-vādī assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavādeyya musā-vāda-paccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ musā-vāda-paccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā musā-vāda-paccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ musā-vādo,||
[362] ye ca musā-vāda-paccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā||
musā-vādā paṭiviratassa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.|| ||

‘Saccaṃ vācaṃ nissāya musā-vādo pahātabbo’ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ,||
vuttaṃ idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

‘Apisunaṃ vācaṃ nissāya pisunā vācā pahātabbā’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu pisunā-vāco assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samucchedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana pisunā vāco assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavādeyya pisunā vācapaccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ pisunā vācapaccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā pisunā vācapaccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojaganaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ suna pisunā vācā,||
ye ca pisunā vācapaccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā||
pisunā vācā paṭiviratassa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.|| ||

‘Apisunaṃ vācaṃ nissāya pisunā vācā pahātabbā’ ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ,||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

Agiddhilobhaṃ nissāya giddhilobho pahātabbo’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu giddhilobhī assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samucchedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana giddhilobhī assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavadeyya giddhilobhapaccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ giddhilobhapaccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā giddhilobhapaccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ giddhilobho,||
ye ca giddhilobhapaccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā||
agiddhilobhi’ssa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.|| ||

‘Agiddhilobhaṃ nissāya giddhilobho pahātabbo’ ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ,||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

‘Anindārosaṃ nissāya nindāroso pahātabbo’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu nindārosī assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ [363] pahānāya samucchedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana nindārosī assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavadeyya nindārosapaccayā||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ nindārosapaccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā nindārosapaccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ nindāroso||
ye ca nindārosapaccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā||
anindārosissa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.|| ||

‘Anindārosaṃ nissāya nindāroso pahātabbo’ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ,||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

‘Akodhūpāyāsaṃ nissāya kodhūpāyāso pahātabbo’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu kodhūpāyāsī assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samucchedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana kodhūpāyāsī assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavadeyya kodhūpāyāsapaccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ kodhūpāyāsa paccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā kodhūpāyāsapaccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ kodhūpāyāso,||
ye ca kodhūpāyāsapaccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā||
akodhūpāyāsissa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti|| ||

‘Akodhūpāyāsaṃ nissāya kodhūpāyāso pahātabbo’ ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ,||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.|| ||

‘Anati-mānaṃ nissāya ati-māno pahātabbo’ ti||
iti kho pan’etaṃ vuttaṃ,||
kiñ c’etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ?|| ||

Idha gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yesaṃ kho ahaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ hetu ati-mānī assaṃ,||
tes’āhaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ pahānāya samucchedāya paṭipanno||
ahañ c’eva kho pana ati-mānī assaṃ,||
attā pi maṃ upavadeyya ati-mānapaccayā,||
anuvicca viññū garaheyyuṃ ati-mānapaccayā,||
kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā duggati pāṭikaṅkhā ati-mānapaccayā.|| ||

Etad eva kho pana saṃyojanaṃ etaṃ nīvaraṇaṃ yad idaṃ ati-māno,||
ye ca ati-mānapaccayā uppajjeyyuṃ āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā,||
anati-mānissa evaṃsa te āsavā vighāta-pariḷāhā na honti.|| ||

‘Anati-mānaṃ nissāya ati-māno pahātabbo’ ti||
iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ||
idam etaṃ paṭicca vuttaṃ.

[364] Ime kho gahapati aṭṭha dhammā saṅkhittena vuttā vitthārena vibhattā ye ariyassa vinaye vohārasamucchedāya saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Na tv’eva tāva ariyassa vinaye sabbena sabbaṃ sabbathā sabbaṃ vohārasamucchedo hotī’ ti.|| ||

‘Yathā kathaṃ pana bhante ariyassa vinaye sabbena sabbaṃ sabbathā sabbaṃ vohārasamucchedo hoti.|| ||

Sādhu me bhante Bhagavā tathā dhammaṃ desetu yathā ariyassa vinaye sabbena sabbaṃ sabbathā sabbaṃ vohārasamucchedo hotī’ ti.|| ||

‘Tena hi gahapati suṇāhi,||
sādhukaṃ mana-sikarohi||
bhāsissāmi’ ti.|| ||

‘Evaṃ bhante’ ti kho Potaliyo gahapati Bhagavato paccassosi.|| ||

Bhagavā etad avoca:|| ||

 


 

‘Seyyathā pi gahapati kukkuro jigha-c-chā-du-b-balyapareto go-ghātakasūṇaṃ pacc’upaṭṭhito assa.|| ||

Tam enaṃ dakkho go-ghātako vā go-ghātakantevāsī vā atthikaṅkalaṃ sunikantaṃ nikantaṃ nimmaṃsaṃ lohita-makkhittaṃ upacchubheyya.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Api nu so kukkuro amuṃ atthikaṅkalaṃ sunikantaṃ nikantaṃ nimmaṃsaṃ lohita-makkhittaṃ palikhādento jigha-c-chā-du-b-balyaṃ paṭivineyyā’ ti?|| ||

‘No h’etaṃ bhante.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Aduṃ hi bhante atthikaṅkalaṃ sunikantaṃ nikantaṃ nimmaṃsaṃ lohita-makkhittaṃ,||
yāva-d-eva ca pana so kukkuro kilamathassa vighātassa bhāgī assā’ ti.|| ||

‘Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

Aṭṭhikaṅkalūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bah’ūpāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyo’ ti.|| ||

Evam etaṃ yathā-bhūtaṃ samma-p-paññāya disvā||
yā’yaṃ upekkhā nānattā nānattasitā||
taṃ abhini-vajchetvā||
yā’yaṃ upekkhā ekattā ekattasitā,||
yattha sabbaso lokāmisūpādānā aparisesā nirujjhanti||
tam ev’upekkhaṃ bhāveti.|| ||

Seyyathā pi gahapati gijjho vā kaṅko vā kulalo vā maṃsapesiṃ ādāya uḍḍiyeyya,||
tam enaṃ gijjhā pi kaṅkā pi kulalā pi anupatitvā anupatitvā vitaccheyyuṃ virājeyyuṃ.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Sace so gijjho vā kaṅko vā kulalo vā taṃ maṃsapesiṃ na khippam eva paṭinissajjeyya||
so tato nidānaṃ maraṇaṃ vā niga-c-cheyya maraṇa-mattaṃ vā dukkhan’ ti?|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

‘Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Maṃsapes’ūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bah’ūpāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyo” ti.|| ||

[365] Evam etaṃ yathā-bhūtaṃ samma-p-paññāya disvā yā’yaṃ upekkhā nānattā nānattasitā,||
taṃ abhini-vajchetvā yā’yaṃ||
upekkhā ekattā ekattasitā,||
yattha sabbaso lokāmisūpādānā aparisesā nirujjhanti,||
tam ev’upekkhaṃ bhāveti.|| ||

Seyyathā pi gahapati puriso ādittaṃ tiṇukkaṃ ādāya paṭivātaṃ gaccheyya.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Sace so puriso taṃ ādittaṃ tiṇukkaṃ na khippam’eva paṭinissajjeyya||
tassa sā ādittā tiṇukkā hatthaṃ vā daheyya bāhaṃ vā daheyya||
aññataraṃ vā aṅgapaccaṅgaṃ daheyya,||
so tato nidānaṃ maraṇaṃ vā niga-c-cheyya maraṇa-mattaṃ vā dukkhan’ ti?|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

‘Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Tiṇukk’ūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bah’ūpāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyo” ti.|| ||

Evam etaṃ yathā-bhūtaṃ samma-p-paññāya disvā||
yā’yaṃ upekkhā nānattā nānattasitā,||
taṃ abhini-vajchetvā||
yā’yaṃ upekkhā ekattā ekattasitā||
yattha sabbaso lokāmisūpādānā aparisesā nirujjhanti||
tam ev’upekkhaṃ bhāveti.|| ||

Seyyathā pi gahapati aṅg’ārakāsu sādhika-porisā pūrā aṅgārānaṃ vīt’accikānaṃ vīta-dhūmānaṃ,||
atha puriso āgaccheyya jīvit-u-kāmo amarit-u-kāmo sukha-kāmo dukkha-paṭikkūlo.|| ||

Tam enaṃ dve balavanto purisā nānā bāhāsu gahetvā aṅg’ārakāsuṃ upakaḍḍheyyuṃ.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Api nu so puriso iti c’iti c’eva kāyaṃ sannāmeyyāti.|| ||

‘Evaṃ bhante.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Viditaṃ hi bhante tassa purisassa:|| ||

“Imañ ce ahaṃ aṅg’ārakāsuṃ patissāmi,||
tato nidānaṃ maraṇaṃ vā nigacchāmi maraṇa-mattaṃ vā dukkhan”‘ ti.|| ||

‘Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Aṅgārakās’ūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bahupāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyo” ti.|| ||

Evam etaṃ yathā-bhūtaṃ samma-p-paññāya disvā yā’yaṃ upekkhā nānattā nānattasitā,||
taṃ abhini-vajchetvā yā’yaṃ||
upekkhā ekattā ekattasitā||
yattha sabbaso lokāmisūpādānā aparisesā nirujjhanti||
tam ev’upekkhaṃ bhāveti.|| ||

Seyyathā pi gahapati puriso supinakaṃ passeyya||
ārāma-rāmaṇeyyakaṃ vana-rāmaṇeyyakaṃ bhūmi-rāmaṇeyyakaṃ pokkharaṇīrāmaṇeyyakaṃ so paṭiBuddho na kiñci passeyya.|| ||

Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Supinak’ūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bahupāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyo” ti.|| ||

Evam etaṃ yathā-bhūtaṃ samma-p-paññāya disvā yā’yaṃ upekkhā nānattā nānattasitā,||
taṃ abhini-vajchetvā yā’yaṃ||
upekkhā ekattā ekattasitā||
yattha sabbaso lokāmisūpādānā aparisesā nirujjhanti||
tam ev’upekkhaṃ bhāveti.|| ||

Seyyathā pi gahapati puriso yācitakaṃ bhogaṃ yācitvā [366] yānaṃ vā poroseyyaṃ pavaramaṇikuṇḍalaṃ||
so tehi yācitakehi bhogehi purakkhato parivuto antarāpaṇaṃ paṭipajjeyya.|| ||

Tam enaṃ jano disvā evaṃ vadeyya:|| ||

“Bhogī vata bho puriso,||
evaṃ kira bhogino bhogāni bhuñjantī” ti.|| ||

Tam enaṃ sāmikā yattha yatth’eva passeyyuṃ||
tattha tatth’eva sāni hareyyuṃ.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Alan nu kho tassa purisassa aññathattāyā’ ti?|| ||

‘Evaṃ bhante.|| ||

Taṃ kissa hetu?|| ||

Sāmino hi bhante sāni hArahantī’ ti.|| ||

‘Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Yācitak’ūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bah’ūpāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyoti.|| ||

atha puriso āgaccheyya phalatthiko phalagavesi phalapariyesanaṃ caramāno.|| ||

So taṃ vana-saṇḍaṃ ajjhoga-hetvā taṃ rukkhaṃ passeyya sampannaphalañ ca upapannaphalañ ca,||
n’atthi ca kānici phalāni bhūmiyaṃ patitāni,||
jānāmi kho panāhaṃ rukkhaṃ āruhituṃ,||
yan’nūn-ā-haṃ imaṃ rukkhaṃ āruhitvā yāva-datthañ ca khādeyyaṃ ucchaṅgañca pūreyyanti.|| ||

So taṃ rukkhaṃ āruhitvā yāva-datthañ ca||
khādeyya ucchaṅgañ ca pūreyya.|| ||

Atha dutiyo puriso āgaccheyya phalatthiko phalagavesi phalapariyesanaṃ caramāno tiṇhaṃ kuṭhāriṃ ādāya.|| ||

So taṃ vana-saṇḍaṃ ajjhoga-hetvā taṃ rukkhaṃ passeyya sampanna phalañ ca uppannaphalañ ca||
tassa evam assa:|| ||

“Ayaṃ kho rukkho sampannapalo ca,||
uppannaphalo ca,||
n’atthi ca kānici phalāni bhūmiyaṃ patitāni,||
na kho panāhaṃ jānāmi rukkhaṃ āruhituṃ,||
yan’nūn-ā-haṃ imaṃ rukkhaṃ mūlato chetvā yāva-datthañ ca khādeyyaṃ ucchaṅgañca pūreyyanti.|| ||

So taṃ rukkhaṃ mūlato chindeyya.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Asu yo so puriso paṭhamaṃ rukkhaṃ ārūḷho,||
sace so na khippam’eva oroheyya tassa so rukkho papatanto hatthaṃ vā bhañjeyya||
aññataraṃ vā aṅgapaccaṅgaṃ bhañjeyya,||
so tato [367] nidānaṃ maraṇaṃ vā niga-c-cheyya maraṇa-mattaṃ vā dukkhan’ ti?|| ||

“Evaṃ bhante” ti.|| ||

‘Evam eva kho gahapati ariya-sāvako iti paṭisañcikkhati:|| ||

“Rukkha-phal’ūpamā kāmā vuttā Bhagavatā bahu-dukkhā bah’ūpāyāsā,||
ādīnavo ettha bhiyyoti.|| ||

Sa kho so gahapati ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhā-sati-pārisuddhiṃ āgamma aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati.|| ||

Seyyath’īdaṃ:|| ||

Ekam pi jātiṃ,||
dve pi jātiyo,||
tisso pi jātiyo,||
catasso pi jātiyo,||
pañca pi jātiyo,||
dasa pi jātiyo,||
vīsatim pi jātiyo,||
tiṃsam pi jātiyo,||
cattārīsam pi jātiyo,||
paññāsam pi jātiyo,||
jāti-satam pi jāti-sahassam pi-jāti sata-sahassam pi,||
aneke pi saṃvaṭṭa-kappe aneke pi,||
vivaṭṭa-kappe aneke pi saṃvaṭṭa-vivaṭṭa-kappe,||
‘amutr’āsiṃ evaṃ-nāmo,||
evaṃ-gotto,||
evaṃ-vaṇṇo,||
evam-āhāro,||
evaṃ sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī,||
evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto amutra upapādiṃ.|| ||

Tatra p’āsiṃ,||
evaṃ-nāmo,||
evaṃ gotto,||
evaṃ vaṇṇo,||
evam-āhāro,||
evaṃ sukha-dukkha-paṭisaṃvedī,||
evam-āyu-pariyanto.|| ||

So tato cuto idh’ūpapanno’ ti.|| ||

Iti sākāraṃ sa-uddesaṃ aneka-vihitaṃ pubbe-nivāsaṃ anussarati.|| ||

Sa kho so gahapati ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhā sati-pārisuddhiṃ āgamma dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passati:||
cavamāne uppajjamāne,||
hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate||
yathā-kamm’ūpage satte pajānāti:-|| ||

“Ime vata bhonto sattā kāya-du-c-caritena samannāgatā||
vacī-du-c-caritena samannāgatā||
mano-du-c-caritena samannāgatā||
ariyānaṃ upavādakā micchā-diṭṭhikā||
micchā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā||
te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā||
apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinipātaṃ Nirayaṃ upapannā.|| ||

Ime vā pana bhonto sattā kāya-sucaritena samannāgatā||
vacī-sucaritena samannāgatā||
mano-sucaritena samannāgatā||
ariyānaṃ anupavādakā sammā-diṭṭhikā||
sammā-diṭṭhi-kamma-samādānā.|| ||

Te kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā||
sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannā” ti.|| ||

Iti dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkanta-mānusakena satte passati cavamāne uppajjamāne,||
hīne paṇīte suvaṇaṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate||
yathā-kamm’ūpage satte pajānāti.|| ||

Sa kho so gahapati ariya-sāvako imaṃ yeva anuttaraṃ upekkhā sati-pārisuddhiṃ āgamma āsavānaṃ khayā anāsavaṃ ceto-vimuttiṃ paññā-vimuttiṃ diṭṭhe’va dhamme sayaṃ abhiññā sacchi-katvā upasampajja viharati.|| ||

 


 

Ettāvatā kho gahapati ariyassa vinaye sabbena sabbaṃ sabbathā sabbaṃ vohārasamucchedo hoti.|| ||

Taṃ kim maññasi gahapati?|| ||

Yathā ariyassa vinaye sabbena sabbaṃ vohārasamucchedo hoti,||
api nu tvaṃ eva-rūpaṃ vohārasamucchedaṃ attani samanupassasī’ ti?|| ||

‘Ko c’āhaṃ bhante ko ca ariyassa vinaye sabbena sabbaṃ sabbathā sabbaṃ vohārasamucchedo.|| ||

Mayaṃ hi bhante pubbe añña-titthiye paribbājake anājānīyeva samāne ājānīyāti amaññimha.|| ||

Anājānīyeva samāne ājānīya-bhojanaṃ bhojimha.|| ||

Anājānīyeva samāne ājānīya-ṭ-ṭhāne ṭhapimha.|| ||

Bhikkhū pana mayaṃ bhante ājānīyeva samāne anājānīyāti amaññimha.|| ||

Ājānīyeva samāne anājānīya-bhojanaṃ bhojimha.|| ||

Ājānīyeva samāne anājānīya-ṭ-ṭhāne ṭhapimha.|| ||

Idāni pana mayaṃ bhante añña-titthiye [368] paribbājake anājāniyeva samāne anājānīyāti jānissāma.|| ||

Anājānīyeva samāne anājānīya-bhojanaṃ bhojessāma anājānīyeva samāne anājānīya-ṭ-ṭhāne ṭhapessāma bhikkhū pana mayaṃ bhante ājānīyeva samāne ājānīyāti jānissāma ājānīyeva samāne ājānīya-bhojanaṃ bhojessāma,||
ājānīyeva samāne ājānīya-ṭ-ṭhāne ṭhapessāma ajanesi vata me bhante Bhagavā samaṇesu samaṇapemaṃ samaṇesu samaṇa-p-pasādaṃ samaṇesu samaṇagāravaṃ.|| ||

Abhikkantaṃ bhante,||
abhikkantaṃ bhante,||
seyyathā pi bhante nikkujjitaṃ4 vā ukkujjeyya,||
paṭi-c-channaṃ vā vivareyya,||
mūḷhassa vā Maggaṃ ācikkheyya,||
andha-kāre vā tela-pajjotaṃ dhāreyya,||
cakkhu-manto rūpāni dakkhintīti,||
evam evaṃ5 Bhagavatā aneka-pariyāyena dhammo pakāsito.|| ||

Es’āhaṃ bhante Bhagavantaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi Dhammañ ca bhikkhu-saṅghañ ca.|| ||

Upāsakaṃ maṃ Bhagavā dhāretu ajja-t-agge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gatanti.|| ||
