Atthi kho āvuso tena Bhagavatā jānatā passatā arahatā Sammā Sambuddhena aṭṭhadhammā sammad-akkhātā. Tattha sabbeh’eva saṅgāyitabbaṃ na vivaditabbaṃ, yatha-yidaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ addhaniyaṃ assa cira-ṭ-ṭhitikaṃ, tad assa bahu-jana-hitāya bahu-jana-sukhāya lok-ā-nukampāya atthāya hitāya sukhāya deva-manussānaṃ.

Idh’āvuso bhikkhunā kammaṃ kātabbaṃ hoti. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Kammaṃ kho me kātabbaṃ bhavissati, kammaṃ kho pana me karontassa kāyo kilamissati, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ paṭhamaṃ kusīta-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhunā kammaṃ kataṃ hoti. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho kammaṃ akāsiṃ, kammaṃ kho pana me karontassa kāyo kilanto, hadāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ dutiyaṃ kusīta-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhunā Maggo gantabbo hoti. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Maggo kho me gantabbo bhavissati, Maggaṃ kho pana me gacchantassa kāyo kilamissati, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ tatiyaṃ kusita-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhunā Maggo gato hoti. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho Maggaṃ agamāsiṃ, Maggaṃ kho pana me gacchantassa kāyo kilanto, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchitakassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ catutthaṃ kusīta-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhu gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā piṇḍāya caranto na labhati lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā [256] piṇḍāya caranto nālatthaṃ lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ, tassa me kāyo kilanto akammañño, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ pañcamaṃ kusīta-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhu gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā piṇḍāya caranto na labhati lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā piṇḍāya caranto alatthaṃ lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ, tassa me kāyo garuko akammañño, māsācitaṃ maññe, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ chaṭṭhaṃ kusīta-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhuno uppanno hoti appamattako ābādho. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Uppanno kho me appamattako ābādho, atthi kappo nipajjituṃ, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ sattamaṃ kusīta-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ, āvuso bhikkhu gilānā vuṭṭhito1 hoti, acira-vuṭṭhito gelaññā. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho gilānā vuṭṭhito acira-vuṭṭhito gelaññā, tassa me kāyo dubbalo akammañño, handāhaṃ nipajjāmī’ ti. So nipajjati, na viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ aṭṭhamaṃ kusīta-vatthu.

Puna ca paraṃ āvuso, bhikkhunā [257] kammaṃ kataṃ hoti. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho kammaṃ akāsiṃ, kammaṃ kho panāhaṃ karonto nāsakkhiṃ Buddhānaṃ sāsanaṃ mana-sikātuṃ. Handāhaṃ virayaṃ ārabhāmi appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāyā’ ti. So viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ dutiyaṃ ārambha-vatthu.

Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhu gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā piṇḍāya caranto na labhati lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ piṇḍāya caranto nālanthaṃ lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ. Tassa me kāyo lahuko kammañño. Hadāhaṃ viriyaṃ ārabhāmi appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāyā’ ti. So viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ pañcamaṃ ārambha-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhu gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā piṇḍāya caranto labhati lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho gāmaṃ vā nigamaṃ vā piṇḍāya caranto alatthaṃ lūkhassa vā paṇītassa vā bhojanassa yāva-datthaṃ pāripūriṃ. Tassa me kāyo balavā kammañño. Handāhaṃ viriyaṃ ārabhāmi, appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāyā’ ti. So viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ chaṭṭhaṃ ārambha-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhuno uppanno hoti appamattako ābādho tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Uppanno kho me ayaṃ appamattako. Ābādho ṭhānaṃ kho pan’etaṃ vijjati yaṃ me ābādho pavaḍḍheyya, handāhaṃ viriyaṃ ārabhāmi appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāyā’ ti. So viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. [258] Idaṃ sattamaṃ ārambha-vatthu.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso bhikkhu gilānā vuṭṭhito hoti acira-vuṭṭhito gelaññā. Tassa evaṃ hoti: ‘Ahaṃ kho gilānā vuṭṭhito1 acira-vuṭṭhito gelaññā. Ṭhānaṃ kho pan’etaṃ vijjati yaṃ me ābādho paccudāvatteyya, handāhaṃ viriyaṃ ārabhāmi appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāyā’ ti. So viriyaṃ ārabhati appattassa pattiyā anadhi-gatassa adhigamāya asacchi-katassa sacchi-kiriyāya. Idaṃ aṭṭhamaṃ ārambha-vatthu.

Āsajja dānaṃ deti.
Bhayā dānaṃ deti.
‘Adāsi me’ ti dānaṃ deti.
‘Dassati me’ ti dānaṃ deti.
‘Sāhu dānan’ ti dānaṃ deti.
‘Ahaṃ pacāmi, ime na pacanti, nārahāmi pacanto apacantānaṃ na dātu’n’ ti dānaṃ deti.
‘Imaṃ me dānaṃ dadato kalyāṇo kitti-saddo abbhuggacchatī’ ti dānaṃ deti.
Cittālaṅkāra-cittaparikkhāratthaṃ dānaṃ deti.

Idh’āvuso ekacco dānaṃ deti, Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ yānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. So passati khattiya-mahāsālaṃ vā brāhmaṇa-mahāsālaṃ vā gahapati-mahāsālaṃ vā pañcahi kāma-guṇehi samappitaṃ samaṅgībhūtaṃ paricāraya-mānaṃ. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā khattiya-mahā-sālānaṃ vā brāhmaṇa-mahā-sālānaṃ vā gahapati-mahā-sālānaṃ vā saha-vyataṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃ- [259] vattati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso idh’ekacco dānaṃ deti Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ yānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. Tassa sutaṃ hoti ‘Cātu-m-mahā-rājikā devā dīghā-yukā vaṇṇa-vanto sukha-bahulā’ ti. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maranā Cātu-m-mahā-rājikānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyātaṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.

So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso idh’ekacco dānaṃ deti Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ vānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. Tassa sutaṃ hoti ‘Yāmā devā dīghā-yukā vaṇṇa-vanto sukha-bahulā’ ti. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maranā Yāmānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyātaṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso idh’ekacco dānaṃ deti Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ yānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. Tassa sutaṃ hoti ‘Tusitā devā dīghā-yukā vaṇṇa-vanto sukha-bahulā’ ti. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā Tusitānaṃ devānaṃ sahabyātaṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso idh’ekacco dānaṃ deti Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ yānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. Tassa sutaṃ hoti ‘Nimmāṇaratī devā dīghā-yukā vaṇṇa-vanto sukha-bahulā’ ti. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā Nimmāṇaratīnaṃ devānaṃ saha-vyataṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso idh’ekaccodānaṃ deti Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ yānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. Tassa sutaṃ hoti ‘Paranimmita-vasavattī devā dīghā-yukā vaṇṇa-vanto sukha-bahulā’ ti. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā Paranimmita-vasavattīnaṃ devānaṃ saha-vyataṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.
Puna ca paraṃ āvuso idh’ekacco dānaṃ deti Samaṇassa vā Brāhmaṇassa vā annaṃ pānaṃ vatthaṃ yānaṃ mālā-gadha-vilepanaṃ seyyāvasatha-padīpeyyaṃ. So yaṃ deti taṃ paccāsiṃsati. Tassa sutaṃ hoti ‘Brahma-kāyikā devā dīghā-yukā vaṇṇa-vanto sukha-bahulā’ ti. Tassa evaṃ hoti ‘Aho vatāhaṃ kāyassa bhedā param maraṇā brahma-kāyikānaṃ devānaṃ saha-vyataṃ upapa-j-jeyyan’ ti. So taṃ cittaṃ dahati, taṃ cittaṃ adhiṭṭhāti, taṃ cittaṃ bhāveti. Tassa taṃ cittaṃ hīne vimuttaṃ uttariṃ abhāvitaṃ tatr’upapattiyā saṃvaṭṭati. Tañ ca kho [260] sīla-vato vadāmi no du-s-sīlassa. Vīta-rāgassa no sarāgassa. Ijjhat’āvuso sīla-vato ceto-paṇidhi suddhattā.

Lābho ca, alābho ca, yaso ca, ayaso ca, nindā ca, pasaṃsā ca, sukhañ ca, dukkhañ ca.

Ajjhattaṃ rūpa-saññi eko bahiddhā rūpāni passati parittāni suvaṇṇa-dubbaṇṇāni, tāni abhibhuyya ‘Jānāmi passāmī’ ti evaṃ-saññī hoti. Idaṃ paṭhamaṃ abhibh’āyatanaṃ.

Ajjhattaṃ arūpa-saññī eko bahiddhā rūpāni passati nīlāni nīla-vaṇṇāni nīla-nidassanāni nīla-nibhāsāni – seyyathā pi nāma ummā-pupphaṃ nīlaṃ nīla-vaṇṇaṃ nīla-nidassanaṃ nīla-nibhāsaṃ – seyyathā vā pana taṃ vatthaṃ Bārāṇaseyyakaṃ ubhato bhāga-vimaṭṭhaṃ nīlaṃ nīla-vaṇṇaṃ nīla-nidassanaṃ nila-nibhāsaṃ – evam eva ajjhattaṃ arūpa-saññī eko bahiddhā rūpāni passati [261] nīlāni nīla-vaṇṇāni nīla-nidassanāni nīla-nibhāsāni, tāni abhibhuyya ‘Jānāmi passāmī’ ti evaṃ-saññī hoti. Rūpī rūpāni passati. Ayaṃ paṭhamo vimokkho. Ajjhattaṃ arūpa-saññī eko [262] bahiddhā rūpāni passati. Ayaṃ dutiyo vimokkho.
‘Subhan’ t’eva adhimutto hoti. Ayaṃ tatiyo vimokkho.
Sabbaso rūpa-saññānaṃ samati-k-kamā paṭigha-saññānaṃ attha-gamā nānatta-saññānaṃ amanasikārā ‘Ananto ākāso’ ti Ākāsanañ-c’āyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ catuttho vimokkho.
Sabbaso ākāsānāñcāyatanaṃ samati-k-kamma ‘Anantaṃ viññāṇan’ ti Viññāṇañ-c’āyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ pañcamo vimokkho.
Sabbaso Viññāṇañ-c’āyatanaṃ samati-k-kamma ‘N’atthi kiñcī’ ti Ākiñcaññ’āyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ chaṭṭho vimokkho.
Sabbaso Ākiñcaññ’āyatanaṃ samati-k-kamma n’evasaññā-nāsaññāyatanaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ sattamo vimokkho.
Sabbaso n’evasaññā-nāsaññāyatanaṃ samati-k-kamma saññā-vedayita-nirodhaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ aṭṭhamo vimokkho.
Ime kho āvuso tena Bhagavatā jānatā passatā arahatā Sammā Sambuddhena atthā dhammā sammad-akkhātā. Tattha sabbeh’eva saṅgāyitabbaṃ na vivaditabbaṃ, yatha-yidaṃ Brahma-cariyaṃ addhaniyaṃ assa cira-ṭ-ṭhitikaṃ, tad assa bahu-jana-hitāya bahu-jana-sukhāya lok-ā-nukampāya atthāya hitāya sukhāya deva-manussānaṃ.
